<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Protection screen for a passive infrared motion indicator, with the possibility of setting a surveillance zone"
The invention relates to a protective screen for a passive infrared movement indicator, which has the possibility of adjusting a surveillance zone.
For passive infrared motion indicators, DE-A-37 22 632 discloses a covering screen which can be inserted into the surface of the entry window for infrared, the detection angle being able to be reduced by this. . In addition, this overlap screen is designed so that it can also receive segments of different widths, other detection angles can be adjusted by this. The variation of the detection angle is nevertheless limited by the number of segments insofar as they cannot be made at will narrowly, as they must still be provided with fixing notches. Continuous production of any detection angles is not possible with this known device.
The object of the invention is to provide a protective screen for passive infrared movement indicators, which has a protective function and which is also adapted to allow a continuous surveillance zone by making corresponding detection angles.
This problem is solved by the fact that the protective screen consists of a semi-circular cap, which is open in the direction of attachment to the housing and which is closed at its opposite end by a bottom, and that it has a flat rear wall with an opening through which it is blocked by a boss on the rear wall of the housing during fixing on the housing, and by the fact that the cap is provided on its semicircular peripheral part, at equal distances one on the other, segments which are marked and which can be separated in any way at these

markings or between them in order to determine by one or more recesses obtained in this way one or more detection angles,
to obtain the surveillance zone each time desired for the infrared movement indicator.
Advantageous developments are indicated in the features of the secondary claims.
Other details and particularities of the invention will emerge from the description of the drawings appended to this specification and which illustrate, by way of nonlimiting example, a particular embodiment of the device according to the invention.

FIG. 9 shows in a front elevation view the housing of the passive infrared movement indicator, without the cap according to the invention.
Figure 10 shows the plan view from above of the housing according to Figure 9, with a fixing part.
FIG. 11 shows the cap in the front elevation view and in the direction of attachment to the housing according to FIG. 9.
Figure 12 shows the side view of the housing according to Figure 9, while the cap blocked above is partially cut.
In the different figures, the same reference notations designate identical or analogous elements.
As shown in FIGS. 1 to 4, the protective screen according to the invention consists of a semi-circular cap 3 which, according to the bottom view of FIG. 2, is open at one end and which, according to the seen from above in FIG. 3, is closed at its opposite end by a bottom 4. The cap 3 is essentially constituted by the flat posterior wall 5, by the cited bottom 4 comprising an external scale in degrees and by the peripheral part semi-circular. Then the rear wall 5 and the bottom 4 are developed to form the semi-circular peripheral part so that they provide for the peripheral part a frame which is formed horizontally like a base 12 and vertically like left and right side walls 13.
Between them is located the semicircular peripheral part constituted by segments 9 of uniform width which are characterized by recessed markings 10 and which can be separated therefrom and removed. The complete cap 3 is made, homogeneously as regards the material, of a synthetic material. As shown in FIGS. 5 to 8, the separated and removed segments 9 form recesses II which in turn produce the desired detection angle or angles represented in the form of graphs in FIGS. 5A and 8A as angles D <correspondents.
It is obvious that here the multiplicity of possible embodiments of detection angles can be made, only by way of example, by few illustrations since in some
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
so each conceivable angle adjustment can be performed as, in addition to the markings 10, the segments 9 themselves can also be split.
Finally, Figures 9 to 12 show how the protective screen designed in the form of a cap 3 is fixed on the housing 1 of an infrared movement indicator (Figures 9 to 11) and is locked on it (figure 12). In this regard, there is provided on the rear wall of the housing 8 a boss 7 which is taken up in a blocked manner, during the fixing of the cap 3, by an opening 6 in the latter. The material of the cap 3 is so elastic that when the cap 3 is fixed, a slight elastic recoil from its rear wall 5 is produced until the blocking effect has appeared.
In FIG. 12, one can also clearly see the protective function of the cap 3 which completely covers by its semicircular peripheral part the entry window 2 so that the sensitive sheet in Fresnel lens, of the infrared technique, located behind, has a protective function against mechanical damage at least completely during storage and during transport, and subsequently, after the separation and removal of the segments 9, then still has a protective function limited. The latter only has a secondary function at this point, after commissioning, but nevertheless acceptable. The housing 1 itself can be mounted by means of a fixing part 14.
It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described and that many modifications can be made to the latter without departing from the scope of the present invention.
