Method for introducing the cotton plug used as a smoke filter in the manufacture of cigarette tubes.
In the patent No. 72161 a method for feeding the cotton plug used as a smoke filter in the production of cigarette tubes with a mouthpiece is described, which is characterized in that the axis of the cylindrical cotton wick, from which the individual inserts are separated, is at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the paper tape is, for the purpose of avoiding bending of the attached piece of wick and to achieve a complete filling of the cylindrical cavity of the mouthpiece lining by the coaxially inserted piece of wick.
Tests have shown that the same purpose is achieved if the cotton swab is fed to the paper band at a smaller than a right angle, because the cotton swab is then rolled up in a helical shape and then forms a plug which rests against the inner walls of the paper roll on all sides with a certain tension and shows even permeability inside.
- In Fig. I and 2 of the drawing, two phases of the process forming the subject of the invention are shown schematically, namely Fig. I shows the cotton swab immediately after the application and stitching, while Fig. 2 shows the position of the cotton swab in the rolled paper roll.
According to the method, the wick M, from which the individual pieces of cotton wool m are separated, is guided against the paper tape n at an angle of approximately 450 and placed on the latter in this position as well and cut off and attached in a known manner.
When the paper tape is rolled up after it has been tacked on, the cotton swab is rolled up at a pitch angle of 450 to form a helical roll and forms a plug that rests against the inner walls of the paper roll on all sides.
