Process for the manufacture of smoke cartridges.

In addition to the well-known smoke cartridges, cotton impregnated with salts of platinum or palladium and possibly also with organic acids such as tannic acid, citric acid or tartaric acid is used to absorb the tobacco poisons and the other harmful components of the smoke, as well as cotton soaked with iron chloride solution is. The invention now enters into an improvement on the latter type of smoke cartridge I1. It has been shown that the absorption capacity of cotton prepared with ferric chloride for the harmful components of tobacco smoke experiences a considerable increase if the ferric chloride is given an addition of ferric hydroxide.

For the purposes of the invention, therefore, an iron chloride solution is mixed with precipitated or with after the precipitation
 EMI1.1
other vegetable fibers. such as paper fibers or the like. The material treated in this way is then dried and is immediately ready for use as smoke cartridges for insertion in the mouthpieces of cigarettes, in cigarette or cigar holders, pipe pipes or the like.
