Description

Process for the catalytic conversion of ammonia into nitrogen oxides.

It has already been proposed to use the oxides of tungsten, chromium and molybdenum to convert ammonia into nitrogen oxides.

According to the invention, tin oxide is used as a catalyst in place of these oxides, either alone or mixed with these known oxides. It has been shown that when tin oxide is used, the oxidation of ammonia to nitrogen oxides proceeds excellently. The tin oxide can be produced either by precipitation or by annealing metatannic acid, or the naturally occurring tin stone can be used in a coarsely powdered state.
