Verfahren zur Darstellung von Ammoniak durch katalytische Vereinigung von Stickstoff und Wasserstoff.
Es ist bekannt, dass die Elemente der Eisengruppe eine ausserordentliche Erhöhung ihrer katalytischen Wirkung bei der Darstellung von Ammoniak aus den Elementen zeigen wenn sie Oxyde, Hydroxyde, Salze oder sonstige Verbindungen von Alkalien, alkalischen Erden oder Erdmetallen oder auch andere Beimengungen enthalten.
Es hat sich nun gezeigt, dass das zur Eisengruppe gehörige Molybdän insofern eine besondere Stellung einnimmt, als es auch bereits ohne die genannten Zusätze eine ausgezeichnete katalytische Wirkung besitzt. Es ist hiebei nicht nötig, von reinem metallischen Molybdän auszugehen, vielmehr kann man auch Molybdänverbindungen, wie z. B. Molybdänoxyde, Molybdänchloride, Ammoniummolybdate, Ammoniumphosphomolybdate, Molybdänkarbide, Molybdännitride,-amide,-hydrare oder dgl. verwenden.
Man kann das Molybdän oder die Molybdänverbindung zugleich mit anderen Katalysatoren, z. B. Nickel, oder auch im Gemisch mit indifferenten Stoffen, z. B. Kohle, oder auf Trägern, wie z. B. Quarz, Schamotte, Meerschaum usw. niedergeschlagen verwenden.
Beispiel :
Molybdänsaures oder phosphomolybdänsaures Ammon oder Molybdänsäure wird in einem Strom reinen Ammoniakgases auf dunkle Rotglut erhitzt und die entstandene stickstoffhaltige Verbindung in den Kontaktofen eingefüllt.
Man kann auch die genannten Ausgangsstoffe unmittelbar in den Kontaktofen einbringen.
