Cooling device for the electrodes of vacuum tubes.
To cool the electrodes of vacuum tubes, especially the anticathodes of x-ray tubes, it is common to cement a water-filled glass ball onto the neck extension of the x-ray tube containing the anticathode, the water content of which is in heat-conducting connection with the back of the anticathode mirror. However, this type of cooling device is not effective enough for heavier loads on the tube, despite the precautions that have been taken to achieve a continuous circulation of the coolant; because since the same amount of coolant always circulates, it is heated up over time, albeit more slowly, but with continuous operation, as is usual for therapeutic purposes. It must therefore means for removing the heat from the coolant, for. B. in the open air.
The mere enlargement of the cooling surface of the cooling vessel by attached cooling fins or disks did not produce a sufficient effect. It has therefore been proposed to utilize the thermal bond caused by evaporation of the coolant by blowing air through the cooling liquid or blowing gas streams onto the surface or blowing a gas stream against the back of the anticathode mirror, with which liquid parts are entrained.
All of these precautions require intricate facilities. A substantial simplification is thereby achieved according to the invention! That the cooling vessel, which was previously made of glass or sometimes metal, is made of a porous material, for example unglazed clay. The strong evaporation causing a sufficient thermal bond then occurs of its own accord without any special complex devices. The cooling is sufficient, since evaporation takes place over the entire surface of the cooling vessel.
In the drawing, an embodiment of the new cooling device is shown.
A cooling vessel k made of porous clay is cemented onto the neck h, which contains the anticathode tube a. This cooling vessel is connected to the inside of the anti-cathode tube a, since this penetrates the glass ball of the vacuum tube with the aid of a fused platinum ring p. Water is poured into the cooling vessel in the usual way. Partitions in the antiliathode tube or corresponding inflow and outflow pipes ensure a regulated liquid circulation.
