Rohrdichtung.

Pipe seal.
The invention relates to pipe seals and aims to create a seal which remains serviceable even at high pressures (up to 1000 atmospheres) and is characterized by ease of manufacture.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawing, namely FIG. 1 shows a central section through a flange seal in the state of use and FIG. 2 shows a corresponding section through the seal body before it is installed.
The facing ends q? of the pipes A and Al to be sealed are conically widened and provided with annular grooves which are open inward and form an annular space of dovetail-shaped cross-section when the pipes meet completely. There is therefore a sharp edge a8 on the inner edge of the annular grooves. Flanges B J31 are screwed onto the pipe ends in a known manner. The sealing body C ′, which is expediently made of copper or the like, forms a ring which, before installation, has a rectangular cross section (FIG. 2). His. The outer diameter is the same as the outer diameter of the annular grooves, while its inner diameter is slightly smaller than the corresponding diameter of the annular grooves.
To seal the pipes A and Al, the flanges B and are tightened in a known manner after the sealing ring C has been inserted into the annular grooves. When the flanges are tightened, the cantons a3 cut into the ring C, which means that, under the effect of the pressure generated by the tightening of the flanges, it is pressed against all boundary surfaces of the ring grooves and completely fills the grooves. At the same time, the inner part of the ring C is forced somewhat into the interior of the pipe, in the manner shown in FIG. 1 being pushed in the vicinity of the edges a3 over the conically widened part of the pipe ends o.
The seal is therefore not only made on the boundary surfaces of the annular grooves, but also on the from
Rings C covered places of the conically widened part of the pipe ends a2, and here the seal is all the more effective, the higher the internal pressure. A particular advantage of the seal described is that the edges aB are very protected
Have a position so that they can protect against any mechanical or chemical damage
Effects of the pipe contents are secured to a high degree.
