Stuffing box.
The invention relates to stuffing boxes whose packing space is divided into two parts by an intermediate ring. The purpose of this ring body is to enable the suction of liquids or gases or the supply of barrier liquid. In such stuffing boxes, the two parts of the pack separated by the intermediate ring are compressed to different degrees when the glasses are put on, namely the part of the pack directly touched by the blille is pressed more forcefully than the part on the other side of the ring body.
Since, however, the pressure against which the seal is to be made is usually greater than the pressure between the ring body and the atmosphere, the glasses must be put on so sharply that the part of the pack directly touched by them is unnecessary causes large friction and unnecessarily large wear on the shaft.
In order to avoid this inconvenience, according to the invention, in that part of the packing space. in which the compression should not exceed a certain level. A spacer made of solid material is arranged, which does not fill this space radially and is shorter than the packing space in the axial direction.
In the drawing, an arrangement is shown as an embodiment of the invention

Mass is compressed. a is the gland of the stuffing box, b one part, e the other part of the packing space or the packing, which are separated from each other by the annular body a. In the packing space b, which is touched by the glasses a, a ring (;) is inserted as a spacer which, as shown, can be arranged in the middle or on the outer wall of the packing space or on the shaft a, the packing material b escapes on both sides of the ring c without exerting excessive pressure on the shaft. Finally, the glasses reach the ring c, 0 so that the packing space b cannot be shortened any further.
Then, by further tightening the glasses a, the pack e is compressed as desired. without increasing the pressure exerted on the pack.
The ring r can. instead of resting on the ring body (1, it can also be arranged on the side of the glasses n or one or more rings '' can be arranged on both the glasses I and the ring body {/ each
