3 to 8 hours going on. The reaction mass is worked up in the customary manner.

Example 7: If 100 parts of a pretreated cotton, which 2 to 3%
 EMI3.2
14 parts of hydrobromic acid and this mixture is allowed to stand at ordinary temperature, so after three days a thick, completely shiny solution is obtained. If the reaction is carried out with heating, e.g. B. to 40 or less, the acetylation occurs in a much shorter time. The reaction product is obtained in the usual way. The product obtained can, if necessary, be subjected to hydrolysis.

Instead of the catalysts used in the above examples, other strong or weak catalysts, such as, for example, chlorine, chlorine bromine or chlorine + bromine, chlorine iodine, zinc chloride, etc., can also be used.

The temperature to be used to carry out the process depends entirely on the nature of the starting material or the catalysts to be used and can be varied within wide limits, and the reaction time can also be shortened or lengthened as required. Finally, it should be noted that the pretreated cellulose can be used dry or wet with the rest.
