Process for the representation of tri- and tetrahalogenindigo.

In the parent patent specification No. 53532, among other things, a process for the preparation of tri- and tetrabromo indigo was described, which consists in the action of bromine on mono- or dibromo indigo in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid.

It has now been found that the same process can also be applied to monochloro and dichloro indigo to obtain the mixed tri and tetra halo indigo in question.

   Example:
100 parts of finely powdered Mt-Dichtorindigo are added to the 25faehe amount of cold, concentrated sulfuric acid (93%) to which 110 kg of bromine have been added, with vigorous stirring. After stirring for one hour, the temperature is increased to 450 within two hours and the reaction is allowed to complete at this temperature with continued vigorous stirring, which occurred after about 7 to 8 hours. The dibromodichloriadigo obtained is isolated by pouring the reaction mass into water and the customary post-treatment. The dye provides slightly redder nuances than the tetrabromo indigo of the parent patent and is also close to it in its other properties.

Instead of the 930% sulfuric acid one can also use slightly more concentrated sulfuric acid, e.g. B 960 / oige, use; However, it is not recommended to be significantly below 93 / oige or

If the dichloro indigo is replaced by the monochloro indigo, tri or. Dibromochloroindigo.

In terms of their properties, these dyes are very close to the product of the example.
