<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Ball mill
The ball mill has its place as the cheapest and most robust among the grinding machines
Received aggregate and is used for a wide variety of purposes.
Ball mills are already known, especially for the coarse grinding of ores, in which the
Grist is brought from the grinding chamber into the discharge chamber through slot-shaped openings as soon as the
The material to be comminuted has reached a smaller grain size than the passage width of the slots, from which it can be removed by a lifting device.
However, this known arrangement is unsuitable for the inventive purpose of wet and ultra-fine grinding, since the minimum grain size that can be achieved there is given by the width of the slots.
On the other hand, there is a reduction in the width of the slot to the extent on which the invention is based
1 micron and below technically not possible, since in such a case, if it should be considered at all, one would have to use extremely high pressures to remove the sludge (thin liquid
Grist) through the finest pores, and this filter is also within a very short
Time would be lost and thus useless.
In the known ball mill for coarse grinding of ores and. similar If the suction device is arranged in the suction space, this is a space which is only used for suction and in which, in contrast to the grinding space, no grinding media are arranged. Particles that get from the grinding chamber into the discharge chamber through the slits there are transported out of the mill by the suction device. In the coarse crushing of ores u. similar The purpose of this arrangement is to prevent very coarse parts, the diameter of which is larger than the width of the slot, from being sucked away with There is no requirement for the fineness of the particles and thus parts are conveyed out of the mill whose size is between the smallest and largest diameters, the latter being given by the width of the slot.
Such a device would, however, be unsuitable for ultra-fine grinding, since particles are already being fed into the mill for further comminution which are much smaller than the technically smallest possible slot width.
If the known arrangement were used for the inventive purpose of ultra-fine grinding, unground particles would come into the discharge space after the first revolutions of the mill and would be conveyed out together with the subsequently ground particles.
The invention now relates to an improved arrangement for wet and ultra-fine grinding down to particle sizes of 1 micron and below using a stationary suction pipe that is perpendicular to the mill axis. It consists in that the suction pipe is arranged in the grinding chamber itself.
The mills used up to now - if they are not designed as continuous or tube mills - must be stopped for filling or emptying as well as for each additional salting operation, which not only interrupts the production process unnecessarily, but also for the drive units (motor, gearbox, etc.) is extremely harmful.
For example, when emptying the usual mills for wet grinding through repeated washing (filling in a washing solution), it is necessary to stop the mill in different positions to fill in the washing solution mentioned and to empty the ground material.
The mill according to the invention is only brought to a standstill when the material to be ground is filled
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
and can continue to run continuously during the introduction of the washing liquid, either for the purpose of reducing the viscosity of the sludge or for rinsing out.
In the ball mill according to the invention, the grinding is carried out until all the particles have, as experience shows, reached the desired degree of fineness and the suction is then carried out with the aid of the suction device arranged in the grinding chamber itself. The fact that the suction process is short compared to the milling time lasting several hours ensures that finely milled particles of the same size can be discharged.
The mill according to the invention will now be explained on the basis of three exemplary embodiments, to which the invention is not limited.
The exemplary embodiments of the ball mill explained below with reference to drawings can also be combined with one another. be approved.
The embodiment according to FIG. 1 represents a lacquer mill which has the following parts, namely the actual mill body l, a suction unit 3, a tubular neck bearing pin 4, the
EMI2.1
funnel 7, a feed screw 8 and a drive 9 for the screw. The suction device carries out the suction with its lower part; The ventilation or breathing tube is attached in the upper arm. The suction unit 3 is also held in its vertical position by a holding device during grinding. In the end, it doesn't matter in which position the mill stops, as the suction tube is always down.
To make the drawing easier to understand, it should be noted that in addition to the suction unit 3 described with its two arms, the suction pipe and the ventilation pipe, the filling funnel 7 is also stationary, whereas the mill 1 moves with its two pierced neck journals 4 and 5. The mill 1 is driven in any desired manner, for example via a pair of spur gears. The drive of the screw, which is necessary for introducing the solid ground material and which at the same time carries out a pre-comminution, takes place via the drive marked 9 independently of the drive of the mill. As a working example, the grinding of a pigmented lacquer with the aid of the system sketched in FIG. 1 will now be explained.
In the hopper 7, the raw lacquer material (resin) is first introduced in lump form, the drive of the screw conveyor and the mill drive are switched on, whereby the raw lacquer material is transported into the mill. This is followed by rinsing with so much solvent that the best grinding viscosity is achieved. The pigment is then introduced and grinding is carried out to the desired degree of fineness. Towards the end, the remaining solvent is added. After thorough mixing, suction is started during grinding, u. alternatively via a plunger pump or via a vacuum seal. Normal self-priming pumps can also be used for thin grist. In this case the suction tube is provided with a removable slot nozzle in the lower part of the suction device.
Fig. 2 shows a jacket-cooled mill. This consists of the actual mill body 1 with water jacket (cooling jacket) 2, which is connected to a two-part water lock 6 (device with the help of which the water is brought from the stationary supply into the rotating cooling jacket and vice versa ) is supplied. Solvent or the washing solution are introduced through the central bore in the neck bearing journal 5; The gas can also be supplied through this bore, if such a supply is necessary to carry out a specific grinding process. To introduce the solid matter, the top of this mill (on the right-hand side in the drawing) has a removable cover. The ground material is introduced with the aid of a funnel 10. In this case, however, the mill must be shut down in order to introduce the ground material.
The suction takes place as in the embodiment according to FIG. 1 through the bore of the neck bearing pin 4 through the suction unit 3, whereby the suction process can take place while the mill is running.
3 shows an inert gas mill. Part 1 is again the actual mill body, 2 a cooling jacket for cooling oil, 3 the suction unit, 4 the tubular neck bearing pin on the opposite side, 6 the "water lock" - in this case for distributing the cooling serving oil, 10 the filling funnel, 11 the sight glasses to control the oil flow, 12 the valves in the inlet and outlet line for grinding stock, oil etc., 13 the pump for sucking off the grinding stock, 14 the pump for filling the mill with grinding solution and washing solution , 15 the oil pump for the cooling medium circulation, 16 the cooler for the cooling medium and 17 the filter for the cooling medium.
In contrast to the mill according to FIG. 1, there is no central filling pipe here; H. the mill has no connection with the outside on its left side. Rather, the solvent becomes. introduced via the downward suction tube of the suction unit. The effect of the upward
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
directed ventilation pipe for pressure equalization is the same as before. The filling of the mill with solids takes place, as in FIG. 2, via the top (right) arranged cover and the filling funnel.
As explained, the principle according to the invention can be used for dry and wet grinding, preferably for the latter.
