Annular body
The invention relates to an annular body made of slag-forming material for attachment to a bolt, pin or the like to be connected to a metal workpiece by electrical arc welding.
It has been shown that in order to achieve good welding results, the slag-forming body should be kept well centered in relation to the bolt or pin to be welded.
According to the invention, the inner wall of the ring is provided with a converging from the outside inwards, e.g. B. provided conical clamping surface for the end of a cylindrical bolt.
In this way, the body can be held well centered on the pin or bolt without special members, such as. B. cardboard tubes are required.
In addition, either end of the ring can be placed on the bolt or pin.
The inner wall advantageously has two approximately identical, oppositely directed, inwardly converging clamping surfaces.
Surprisingly, the conicity of the inner ring surface does not have any detrimental influence on stud welding. The slag-forming body softens or melts on its inside during welding and then lets the bolt through in the direction of the workpiece without the body being spread apart and prematurely crumbling due to the forces that occur during clamping on the cone.
In addition, in the case of the ring-shaped body according to the invention, quite ordinary cylindrical bolts with a flat face can be used, which is why the bolts do not require any special machining of their ends.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing.
The drawing shows a longitudinal section through an annular body according to the invention.
The welding pin 1 is a simple cylinder without a shoulder, the ring 2 having two inwardly converging surfaces 3, 4, which have the advantage that one does not need to pay attention to its end when attaching the ring 2.
