Automatic temperature controller for beer and other liquids.
For some liquids, notably beer, it is desirable that they be kept at a constant low temperature. However, this presents great difficulties, especially in climates where cooling with ice cannot be used. Latter

A thermometric device influencing the double valve is installed and is accommodated in the liquid container in such a way that it is immersed standing or lying in the liquid to be cooled.

Part consists of a flat pressed, helically wound steel tube a, which is closed at the upper end and whose lower end opens into a container d protruding from the housing 9 and tightly connected to it.
This container d is tightly closed by a threaded plug forming its bottom and, together with the capillary tube a communicating with it, is completely filled with any elastic or dripping liquid thermometric substance, ideally with mercury.
The upper closed end of the capillary tube is attached to the connector b which terminates in a pin c. An adjustable, two-armed lever d1 is fixedly connected to this pin c, at each of the ends of which a valve head provided with a sealing means is attached. These valve heads e and el close alternately, u. between the opening which leads from the inside of the apparatus into the liquid and the opening which allows the inflow of the fluid supplied from the tube f, in its tension to about 2 atm. forms reduced carbon dioxide. The opening closed by the valve e1 is provided on the outer surface of the housing with a valve q that only opens outwards so that no liquid can get into the housing when the valve el is open.
In the upper part of the housing 9, an insert piece A with a cylindrical bore is arranged in which a leather piston s is guided. The piston rod i extends out of the housing through a seal and at its end carries a nut on its adjustable crosspiece, which in turn is guided on rods k, carries the valve head l, which closes the outflow opening of the supply pipe m for the immediate

The coil spring n pressing the housing usually keeps the valve l closed. In order to be able to get to the double valve inside the housing, the latter has a recess which can be closed by the cover o at the appropriate point.

reduced voltage closed and the discharge valve el opened. If the liquid to be cooled warms up a little, the mercury filling contained in the container d and in the capillary tube will expand and thereby roll up the spirally wound capillary tube a, whereby the pin c located in the axis of the spiral makes a rotation in the direction of the arrow and the lever 61 firmly connected to it takes with it. The valve e is opened here while the discharge valve 61 is closed at the same time.
The carbonic acid with reduced tension now passes through the tube f and through the valve e into the interior of the housing g, fills the same and, when the tension has become sufficiently high, drives the piston upwards, overcoming the pressure of the spiral spring, so that the valve l for the high-tension carbon dioxide is thereby opened.
The coolant can therefore flow directly into the liquid to be cooled. If a sufficient amount has now flowed in and the liquid has cooled down again to the desired low temperature, the liapillary tube a will roll up again, the valve e will close and at the same time el open. The low-voltage carbon dioxide will now also flow from the housing through the open valve into the liquid, the piston lowering and the inlet valve I closing. This now remains closed until the liquid temperature rises again, which puts the thermometric device back into operation.
A particular advantage of the construction of the temperature controller described above is that the high-tension coolant used can flow directly into the liquid to be cooled without entering the apparatus.
The two inlet pipes for the carbon dioxide are inserted through a bung provided with the corresponding openings. passed through tightly, which can also contain a safety valve in order to avoid exceeding the desired pressure in the liquid container.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1.Automatic temperature controller for beer and other liquids, the helically wound heat absorbing organ, immersed in the liquid in question, moves the same valves under the influence of the temperature change and thus causes the liquid to be cooled by letting a coolant flow in, characterized in that the helically wound organ is a flat capillary tube (a) made of steel, the lower end of which opens into a container (d) filled with the thermometric substance and the other closed end of which actuates a double valve (e, el) by means of intermediate members (b, c, dl)
that with increasing temperature of the liquid and the resulting roll-up of the spiral tube due to the expansion of the contents of the same, one valve (s) opens the connection opening between the interior of the housing and the liquid bobä! ter closes, while at the same time the other valve (e1) opens the mouth of the pipe r. r) releases through which cooling gas (carbon dioxide or the like) of reduced voltage flows from the coolant container into the controller housing, in which it is used to actuate the main valve.
