Process for the production of double compounds of calcium or strontium with dimethyl xanthines and salicylic acid.
Patent specification No. 101043 describes a process for the preparation of double compounds from dimethylxanthines, alkaline earth and salicylic acid, which consists in mixing theobromine or theophylline or their calcium or strontium compounds with the same molecular amount of a basic or neutral calcium or strontium salt of salicylic acid are combined in the usual way to double compounds, or that solutions of
EMI1.1
Chloride are brought to implementation.
So there are basically two different procedures, u. between dimethylxanthines and basic alkaline earth metal salicylates, or alkaline earth metal compounds of dimethylxanthines with neutral alkaline earth metal salicylates, in the second case the double reaction between dimethylxanthines and salicylic acid in alkaline solution with calcium or strontium chloride.
It has now been shown that analogous compounds can be obtained in a much simpler way if the components calcium or strontium oxide or hydroxide, theobromine or theophylline and salicylic acid are mixed in a simple molecular ratio and with water or a whole or some of them brings organic solvent miscible with water to reaction. The same products are obtained if a mixture of simple molecular amounts of theobromine or theophylline with salicylic acid is added to a slurry of calcium or strontium hydroxide corresponding to this molecular ratio.
Example 1: A mixture of 180 g of theobromine, 138 g of salicylic acid and 74 g of hydrated lime is rubbed with a little water, then left to solidify and dried. The product obtained in this way contains 1 mole of salicylic acid and 1 mole of calcium per mole of theobromine.
Example 2: 56 g quicklime are quenched with about 300 g water and a mixture of 180 g theobromine with 1389 salicylic acid is stirred into the milk of lime obtained in this way. After about half an hour, the excess water can be suctioned off and the double compound thus obtained can be dried. The end product has the same composition as that obtained in Example 1.
In an analogous manner, the corresponding double compounds can be obtained from strontium oxide or hydroxide, salicylic acid and theobromine or theophylline, which contain the components in a simple molecular ratio.
The progress made on the basis of this process consists in the fact that, without having to use specially prepared intermediate products, ready-to-use products can be obtained directly

the end of the reaction. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that if calcium oxide is used, it can be used in its cheapest form, namely as burned marble. It could not be foreseen that marble that had just been fired would be directly usable for the manufacture of products intended for therapeutic purposes, because its iron content, even if it was slight, would have to deliver colored or discolored products in the presence of salicylic acid on the basis of theoretical-chemical considerations (cf. . Dr.
Julius Schwyzer, The manufacture of pharmaceutical and chemical-technical products, Berlin 1931, p. 412).
PATENT CLAIMS:. l. Process for the production of double compounds of calcium or strontium with dimethylxanthines and salicylic acid, which contain the components in a molecular ratio of 1: 1: 1, characterized in that one simply mixes molecular amounts of calcium or strontium oxide or hydroxide, theobromine or theophylline and salicylic acid and reacts with water or with a wholly or partially water-miscible organic solvent.
