Zinkblech fiir galvanische Elemente.

Zinc sheet for galvanic elements.
Ordinary zinc has the unpleasant property that it does not absorb most of its impurities as a solid solution. so that these impurities give rise to the formation of local elements, as well as the metal with an aggressive liquid in

Dry batteries), superficial amalgamation has been used for many purposes, which helps to homogenize the surface.
Another way to avoid this inconvenience lies in the production of the purest possible zinc, in which the impurities are almost completely absent. But even this approach has not led to complete success, since technically pure zinc itself is too easily chemically attacked. This would, however, be avoided by the so-called spectrally pure zinc, which, however, cannot be considered for practical purposes because of its high price.
It has now been shown that an 'analogous effect can also be brought about by adding very small amounts of aluminum.
Alloys of zinc and aluminum are already known per se. However, the main task for them was to harden the aluminum by adding zinc.
Accordingly, such alloys contain aluminum as a main component.
The inventive addition of very little aluminum (about 1%) has in spite of it
EMI1.2
Sulfuric acid only dissolves in about 20 times as long as the same zinc sheet without the addition of aluminum. The small amount of alloyed aluminum therefore has a very strong passivating effect. As an aside, it should be noted that zinc treated in this way has a much nicer white color than ordinary zinc.
The zinc produced according to the present invention is, due to its corrosion resistance, particularly suitable for use in those cases where the metal is exposed to strong chemical attack. Particularly when used in battery cans, it has been shown that the new zinc sheet is attacked much more evenly and, despite the same effectiveness, much more slowly than conventional zinc sheet. since the currentless resolution is reduced to a minimum.
