Process for the preservation of aqueous hydrogen peroxide solutions.

It is well known that aqueous solutions of hydrogen peroxide have the property of rapidly decomposing. It has been proposed to prevent this decomposition by adding acids, such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid, oxalic acid, without, however, achieving complete conservation. Once the disintegration of the hydrogen peroxide molecules has occurred, it progresses very n'hn'll with increasing time. so that within a short time the solution contains little more than traces of hydrogen oxide. Apart from this, the addition of acids also forms an obstacle to the general usability of such hydrogen peroxide solutions.

To avoid this inconvenience, small amounts of acylamides or azylimides, or even uric acid, have been added to the aqueous solution of hydrogen superoxide, and this has undoubtedly made the hydrogen peroxide more durable.

It has now been found that by adding paraacetylamidophenol the shelf life of hydrogen peroxide solutions can still be increased significantly, and this addition forms the subject of the present invention. The addition of paraacetylamidophenol has the great advantage that, at the same time as the preservative effect, the hydrogen

are particularly suitable for dental care and cosmetics.

Compared to the egg-conogen used for the preservation of hydrogen peroxide, which is the sodium salt of an amidonaphthol sulfonic acid and which in its action comes closest to that of para-acetylamidophenol, the latter has the advantage that it does not color the solution of hydrogen superoxide, as does the eikonogen does.
