Feed roller drive in chopping machines.
The drive device (back gear) for the feed rollers in chopping machines with greater power and changeable cutting length usually consists of a gear case built into the machine frame with many gears, the use of which increases the manufacturing price of such a machine. Also known are machines in which, for the same purpose, a worm with its shaft can be pivoted about the knife wheel shaft and can be brought into engagement with different tooth circles of a toothed disk seated on the roller shaft. According to the present invention, the entire back gear, which provides the changeable transmission ratio from the knife shaft to the driven roller shaft, is built into a frame which sits loosely on the roller shaft and can be pivoted about this shaft.
The subject of the invention is shown in the drawing in an exemplary embodiment. 1 shows the front view and FIG. 2 shows the plan view; Figures 3 and 4 show details. Figs. 2-4: are shown on a larger scale.
The knife wheel b, the knife wheel shaft a, the feed rollers v, the feed shafts c and e, the end bearing n of these two shafts and the two gears z and Zl connecting them are well-known components of the chopping machine. In a support frame s is the entire backlash for the to be driven

consists of two short waves m and d. This frame s is not permanently mounted in the machine frame, but sits loosely as an independent machine element with one end on the lower roller shaft c to be driven by means of two eye bearings o and the other end rests on the machine frame part x, where this end is supported by a support frame y and adjusting screws w and w2 (Fig. 4) adjusted higher or lower and can be determined.
By replacing the gear on the cutter shaft a and the gear t on the countershaft u (Fig. 3) or one of the same, the cutting length can be changed, with the pivotability or adjustability of the frame s and the use of joints titi at the end of the Waves a and m a complaint-free engagement of the respective gears h and t is always guaranteed. The transmission of the drive from shaft d to shaft c takes place through
