Description

  Gleichrichter.

  Rectifier.

As is well known, the cathode container of iron rectifiers must be attached to the iron vessel in an insulated manner, because otherwise the cathode spot or the arc easily migrates up the housing and leads to reignitions and other faults.

The cathode container has therefore always been insulated by inserting a porcelain ring between them.

However, given the large dimensions of the porcelain ring, this is no longer sufficiently operationally reliable, since it easily cracks both as a result of mechanical effects and as a result of thermal stresses.

According to the invention, very reliable insulation of the cathode from the vessel can be achieved by using an oxidized metal ring instead of a porcelain body. As is well known, it is possible to produce an oxide layer of sufficient durability on aluminum, magnesium or their alloys, which can withstand a voltage of 100 volts. The operational reliability can be increased by using several rings connected in series.
