Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Process for enhancing the activating effect of the ultraviolet light beam,
 EMI1.1

Tests have shown that various substances treated with ultraviolet rays, in particular fats, have a photoactive effect on the photographic plate.

Furthermore, further tests have shown that the effect mentioned is increased if the plates are pre- or post-treated with long-wave radiation.

The treatment of substances themselves, which have been activated by ultraviolet rays, with long-wave rays also increases their photoactive effectiveness.

In any case, the relevant experiments show that the above-mentioned increased effect, achieved through the simultaneous or different exposure of the substances to rays from other than the ultraviolet radiation range, appears to a much greater extent than is the case with the known addition of material sensitizers, etc. between dyes or substances that have a special absorption spectrum (iodine) is the case.
 EMI1.2
 be used.

In many cases, combined irradiation can achieve effects that are not achieved either by irradiation with ultraviolet rays alone or by naturally biologically active substances.

The evaluation of the invention is to be explained using the following examples.

   1. 10 layers of an ointment, each consisting of 4'5 layers of lard and lanolin and 1 kg of zinc oxide, are rolled into thin layers on a roller mill with a threefold effect. When passing through the first pair of rollers, the irradiation takes place with a powerful arc lamp, the light of which is filtered through ruby red glass. Then the ointment runs through the second pair of rollers, where it is exposed to the light of a queek silver vapor lamp, and finally through the third pair of rollers, which is again provided with an arc lamp with a ruby red filter.

   2. Chocolate mass is subjected to triple irradiation as in 1.

   3. 100 parts of strontium carbonate, 30 parts of sulfur, 2 parts of dehydrated soda, 0-2 parts of manganese sulfate, 0-5 parts of sodium chloride are mixed thoroughly and the mixture is heated to 12,000 for three quarters of an hour. As is known, this mass shows photoluminescence signals after cooling. If the mass is pulverized and the powder in thin layers for a short time (a few seconds) long-wave, z. B. yellow or red and then short-wave, z. B. exposed to the light of a quartz mercury vapor lamp. the luminescence phenomena are obtained to a greater extent and for a longer period.
