Process for the production of materials suitable for the photomechanical xoping process
It is known that zinc, as a layer carrier for chromate preparations, reacts unfavorably to the applied preparations in the production of photomechanically obtained printing forms. This circumstance has shown itself to be extremely obstructive decades ago in attempts to carry out collotype printing on zinc plates; That is why attempts have been made to weaken the influence of metallic zinc on chromate preparations by pretreating the metal accordingly.

By treating with dilute chromic acid, by pouring colloid layers over the zinc plates, by bathing the zinc plates in alum and dilute nitric acid, the negative influence of zinc was reduced, but not completely eliminated, so that it seemed desirable to examine the behavior of zinc in relation to chromate preparations. in order to find a method to make the zinc as a layer carrier as indifferent as possible to these layers through suitable treatment

The present invention is the result of such work.

It has been found that salt solutions of metals that form double salts and that act on metallic zinc, such as. B. aluminum chloride, prove to be extremely suitable for the pretreatment of metal plates for the production of printing forms.

For the purposes described above, the cleaned and grease-free zinc plate is placed in a bath with a solution of, for example, 40% aluminum chloride for about two to four minutes and rinsed well and dried after the bath. After this treatment, the plate is ready to use for the infusion of the chromate layer.

Zinc plates treated according to this process are also useful for printing purposes. Compared to the previous way of working, this preliminary preparation for transferring purposes represents a shortening of the working time and also has the advantage that this preliminary preparation increases the durability of the transferring plate.
