Description

Process for the production of printing forms suitable for the photomechanical copying process. It is known that zinc, as a layer carrier for chroma preparations, reacts unfavorably to the preparations applied during the production of photomechanically obtained printing foils.

This circumstance was shown to be extremely difficult decades ago in attempts to carry out collotype printing on zinc plates, which is why attempts have been made to weaken the influence of metallic zinc on chromate preparations by appropriate pre-treatment of the metal.

By treating with dilute chromic acid, pouring colloid layers over them, bathing the zinc plates in alum and dilute nitric acid, the unfavorable influence of zinc was reduced, but not completely eliminated, so that it seemed desirable to improve the behavior of the zinc towards chromate prep .Paraten carefully examined in order to find a new method to make the zinc as a layer carrier through the appropriate treatment to these layers as indifferent as possible.

The present invention is the result of such work.

It has been found that salt solutions of metals which form double salts and which act on metallic zinc, such as aluminum chloride, are extremely suitable for the pretreatment of metal plates for the production of printing forms.

Zinc plates treated according to this process also prove useful for transfer printing purposes. Compared to the previous way of working, this prepreparation for order printing purposes is a shortening of the working time and also has the advantage that the durability of the order printing plate is increased by this Voipräparation.

An exemplary embodiment of the method is given below: The cleaned and grease-free zinc plate is placed in a bath with a solution of 40% aluminum chloride, for example, for about two to four minutes, rinsed well after the bath and dried. After this treatment, the plate is ready to be used for the infusion of the chromate layer.
