Process for the production of yarn from spun glass threads.
So far, glass threads could only be produced in limited lengths, since they could only be removed from the drum, on which they only ran individually, by cutting in two. In this form, they can only be used to a limited extent as glass wool. The present invention now aims to create a method by which glass yarn of great strength and any length can be produced, which is suitable for weaving and knitting and is therefore suitable for the most varied of purposes such as hemp, tree or sheep's wool. According to the invention, the method itself consists in that the spinning threads run up in the same plane in which the glass rods lie, whereby all threads or the threads of all rods run together as a single thread on the drum.
In order to prevent the threads wound on one another from interlocking, the threads are wound onto the drum in a helical manner, in that the drum is given an uninterrupted axial reciprocating movement. The glass rods or their entire position is slightly inclined according to the increasing inclination of the spiral in order to ensure that their threads are united.
The device for carrying out the method differs from previously used glass spinning machines in that the spinning drum can be moved back and forth in the axial direction. The support plate for the glass rods can be adjustable in order to be able to slightly incline the entire plane of the glass rods.
The drum can be provided with a removable cover, which can be removed with the wound threads and replaced by a new one.
The threads can also be pulled through a gelatin bath before further processing, which greatly increases their strength.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A process for the production of yarn from spun glass threads which run up on a drum, characterized in that the threads run up in the same plane as the glass rods, the winding of the glass threads on the drum taking place in helical lines .
