Abstract

La manipulación de la fertilidad masculina en una especie poliploide requiere el cuidado de la interacción de los alelos de fertilidad masculina de múltiples genomas. En el trigo hexaploide, los heterocigotos de genoma único de Ms26 proporcionan niveles diferenciales de fertilidad masculina entre genomas. El trigo hexaploide homocigoto para las mutaciones en el gen Ms26 en los genomas A, B, y D posee esterilidad masculina. La fertilidad masculina puede restablecerse mediante niveles de expresión de Ms26 suficiente con el uso de Ms26 natural o un transgen, que puede ser natural del trigo o de otras especies, o una combinación de alelos naturales y transgénicos. La tecnología CRISPR/Cas9 puede usarse para generar mutaciones en Ms26 en trigo o arroz.
