Abstract
Un sistema de embarcaciones y un método que se pueden usar para promover el crecimiento del fitoplancton en los océanos. Las embarcaciones accionadas con energía undimotriz son autónomas y no tripuladas, están equipadas con unidades de almacenamiento para dispensar un fertilizante y tienen sensores que hacen un relevamiento de las condiciones oceánicas y de los efectos obtenidos. Las flotas de embarcaciones se trasladan en forma autónoma en base al procesamiento a bordo de información de GPS y direccional, y el curso de la navegación es coordinado por una unidad central de proceso. Las embarcaciones viajan por un área predeterminada y hacen un relevamiento de las características químicas y biológicas que afectan el crecimiento. Estos datos se procesan en un modelo informático para identificar las ubicaciones precisas y las cantidades precisas de fertilizante que producirán los mejores resultados. Los beneficios previstos de la fertilización de plancton incluyen la captura de CO2 de la atmósfera, el mejoramiento de la cadena trófica marina para aumentar las existencias ictícolas en la zona tratada y sus alrededores.
