Abstract

Un proceso económico de múltiples pasos, integrado, para la producción de VAM (vinyl acetate monomer, monómero acetato de vinilo) a partir de ácido acético en la fase de vapor. Primero se hidrogena selectivamente ácido acético sobre una composición catalizadora de hidrogenación de manera de formar acetaldehído. El acetaldehído así formado puede convertirse en diacetato de etilideno por medio de reacción con anhídrido acético. En un paso siguiente, se descompone el diacetato de etilideno así formado térmicamente de manera de formar VAM y ácido acético. Como alternativa, puede hacerse reaccionar el acetaldehído formado en el primer paso selectivamente con ceteno de manera de formar VAM. La reacción de ácido acético e hidrógeno sobre platino y hierro soportados sobre sílice produce de manera selectiva acetaldehído en una fase de vapor a una temperatura de 300ºC, el que se hidrogena de manera selectiva sobre catalizador soportado de platino de manera de formar etanol y se deshidrata sobre catalizador NAFION de manera de formar etileno a una temperatura de 185ºC, que se mezcla con oxígeno molecular, ácido acético y se hace reaccionar sobre un catalizador paladio/oro/potasio soportado sobre titania de manera de formar VAM a una temperatura de 150ºC a 170ºC.
