Abstract

Se proporcionan métodos para modular el nivel de fitato en plantas. Más específicamente se relaciona con métodos para modular el nivel de fitato usando ácidos nucleicos que comprenden secuencias de nucleotidos de mio-inositol quinasas (MIK), con el fin de modular la expresion de MIK en una planta de interés. Los métodos de la presente pueden usarse en la agricultura para mejorar la calidad nutricional de los alimentos para seres humanos y animales, al reducir los niveles de fitato y/o incrementar los niveles de fosforo no perteneciente a fitato en alimentos para seres humanos y animales. Tambiés es util para reducir el impacto ambiental de los desechos de los animales. Reivindicacion 1: Una planta transformada que comprende en su genoma al menos un ácido nucleico incorporado en forma estable que tiene una primera secuencia de nucleotidos seleccionada del grupo que consiste en: a) una secuencia de nucleotidos que tiene al menos 90% de identidad de secuencia con una secuencia de nucleotidos que comprende al menos 50 nucleotidos contiguos de la secuencia de nucleotidos detallada en SEQ ID Ns 1, 3, 4 o 35; b) una secuencia de nucleotidos que tiene al menos 90% de identidad de secuencia con la secuencia de nucleotidos detallada en SEQ ID Ns 1, 3, 4 o 35; c) una secuencia de nucleotidos que comprende al menos 19 nucleotidos de la secuencia detallada en SEQ ID Ns 1, 3, 4 o 35; y d) una secuencia de nucleotidos que es el complemento de a), b) o c); donde dicha planta tiene un nivel reducido de fitato en comparacion con una planta control.
