Abstract

Un proceso para la preparación de 3-isocromanona con la fórmula general (1): que comprende hacer reaccionar ácido o-tolilacético con un agente halogenante apropiado para formar un compuesto de la fórmula general (3) donde R es halo, haciendo reaccionar el compuesto de la fórmula general (3) con un agente halogenante apropiado para formar un compuesto de la fórmula general (2) donde X es halo; y (a) tratar un compuesto de fórmula general (2) con una base acuosa hasta un pH entre 7 y 14 seguido de acidificación; o (b) agregar el compuesto de fórmula general (2) sobre agua con la adición simultánea a base para mantener el pH, entre 5 y 8; o (c) tratar el compuesto de fórmula general (2) con agua o ácido acuoso seguido de un ajuste de pH hasta un pH entre 5 y 8. Típicamente ambos R y X son cloro. Las 3-Isocromanona es útil, entre otras cosas, como intermediario en la fabricación de productos agrícolas, especialmente fungicidas del tipo de la estrobilurina.
