Abstract
735,272. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 10, 1953 [Sept. 13, 1952], No. 25083/53. Class 39 (1). A magnetic lens for an electron microscope or diffraction device has a movable pole-piece 8 and the vacuous space within the pole-piece is bounded by a small tube 5 of low permeability in the bore of the pole-piece; thus the power of the lens can be adjusted without disturbing the vacuum. The pole-piece 8 is moved by screwed ring 13 and the remainder of the magnetic circuit is shell 1, disc 9 and polepiece 10 which engages the tube 5 in a vacuumtight joint 18; or tube 5 and pole-piece 10 can be made in one piece if the tube is made so thin as to be magnetically saturated. Both pole-pieces may be movable. Specification 711,672 is referred to.
