Abstract

934,661. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILCO CORPORATION. Dec. 8, 1959 [Dec. 8, 1958], No. 41766/59. Class 39 (1). In a cathode-ray tube particularly of the type described in Specification 862,878, in which the electrostatic lens structure 16 is partially within the deflection yoke the second grid 22 which is cup-shaped, facing away from the cathode, and/or the first element 24 of the lens structure is/are formed at least in part of high permeability magnetic material of low residual magnetism and/or low coercive force in order to shield the beam from the fringing field of the deflection yoke. The magnetic material may be a stainless steel and magnetic material may be applied as a coating or overlay on non-magnetic material. The electrostatic lens structure 16 comprises a unipotential lens of which the outer elements 24, 28 are cupshaped. C-shaped beam centering magnets 46, 48 are provided.
