Abstract

515,308. Cathode-ray tubes. MILLER, H., and KALLMANN, H. E. May 25, 1938, Nos. 15543 and 17360. [Class 39 (i)] In an electron lens produced by a permanent magnet M, Fig. 2, or by an electro-magnet 1, Fig. 3, a more uniform radial field gradient is. obtained by a paramagnetic member A housed within the magnet, or as in Fig. 3 by a thin shell 3 of Swedish iron preferably extending on each side of the magnet 1. The member A may be laminated or formed of dust or powder ; or a winding of iron wire may be used. The lens may be used to focus a composite electron beam or a fasciculated beam as an oscillograph. Specifications 440,560 and 472,165 are referred to.
