Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for efficiently recovering valuable metals from spent lithium batteries at the end of their life by dry smelting and smelting. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method of mixing flux and sulfur components in pulverized or crushed waste lithium battery cells and smelting them at 1400°C. It relates to a lithium recovery method for obtaining a lithium-sulfur compound (Li2S) that is volatilized from melting at a high temperature or higher.
- Li2S lithium-sulfur compound
- Waste batteries are generated when primary or secondary batteries used as power sources for various electronic devices such as cell phones, laptops, cassette toys, and emergency power supplies that we use on a daily basis reach the end of their lifespan.
- waste batteries contain harmful metals such as lead, cadmium, and mercury, and KOH, NH4Cl, lithium salts, H2SO4, and organic solutions are used as electrolytes, so their impact on the environment cannot be ignored. Additionally, silver, cobalt, Since they contain valuable metals such as nickel, zinc, manganese, and lithium, recycling of waste batteries is required to protect the environment and use finite resources efficiently.
- LiB lithium-ion batteries
- Methods for recovering valuable metals contained in spent batteries include hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy.
- Hydrometallurgy involves pretreatment followed by additional purification and recovery techniques such as leaching and selective precipitation, ion exchange, and solvent extraction to extract valuable metals to recover cathode materials (KR 10-2019- (see No. 0084081).
- Some hydrometallurgical processes have the disadvantage of relatively long leaching time and low leaching efficiency due to the high valence state of the cathode active material and the strong binding force of the organic binder.
- the extensive use of highly concentrated acid solutions and reducing agents and the complex process steps generate significant wastewater, which can cause secondary pollution due to wastewater and harmful gas emissions during the leaching process.
- lithium may disperse during these separation and purification steps, which may lead to low lithium recovery rates.
- pyrorefining methods can be used (see KR 10-2021-0094615, KR 10-2313417, KR 10-0717389, KR 10-2015-0096849).
- the pyrometallurgical recycling process has the advantage of reducing processing and processing costs by enabling mass processing through rapid chemical reactions. Additionally, the feed materials are relatively flexible, the process is simple, and the environmental impact of dross is minimal. Since mixed waste batteries are charged and processed directly into the melting furnace without going through a sorting process, problems such as fire and explosion risk can be solved, especially when processing lithium batteries, and consideration of the creation of an inert atmosphere during the crushing process during the wet process is required. There are features that are not needed.

Description
리튬이온전지의 양극에 쓰이는 핵심소재로는 금속염의 구성 성분에 따라 LCO(LiCoO2), NCM(Li[Ni,Co,Mn]O2), NCA(Li[Ni,Co,Al]O2), LMO(LiMn2O4) 및 LFP(LiFePO4) 등이 사용되고, 음극소재는 흑연 등과 같은 탄소성 물질이거나 구리 등이 사용될 수 있다.
<화학반응식>
Li2O + S + CO(g) → Li2S + CO2(g)
<실시예 1>
<실시예 2>
<실시예 3>
