Abstract
リチウムイオン電池において電解質層や電極に割れが生じた場合に、充放電特性の低下をできるだけ抑えることが可能な技術を開示する。本開示の技術は、リチウムイオン電池の電解質層や電極に所定のリチウムイオン伝導体を含ませるものである。本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、LiGaX4(Xは1種以上のハロゲンである)で示される複合ハロゲン化物を含む。
Description
本願は、リチウムイオン伝導体、リチウムイオン電池、及び、リチウムイオン伝導体の製造方法を開示する。
特許文献1には、全固体リチウムイオン電池の負極層であって、合金系活物質の粒子を有し、前記合金系活物質の粒子が、1粒子内に2種以上の結晶方位を有する双晶粒子であるものが開示されている。特許文献1においては、合金系活物質の粒子として双晶粒子を用いることで、負極層内部で発生した応力が双晶粒子に逃がされ、負極層内部の割れを抑制できるものとされている。特許文献2には、全固体リチウムイオン電池の固体電解質層を構成する固体電解質として、リチウム塩と、硫化物固体電解質と、所定の弾性率比を備えた有機電解質と、を含むものが開示されている。特許文献2に開示された有機電解質は、加熱した場合に、損失弾性率に対する貯蔵弾性率の比が1未満まで低下する性質を有する。特許文献2においては、リチウム塩と、硫化物固体電解質と、有機電解質とを含む固体電解質層を加熱することで、温度の上昇に伴って当該有機電解質が固体としての挙動から液体としての挙動を示すようになり、当該有機電解質が硫化物固体電解質と馴染むことで、イオン伝導度が向上する。
活物質粒子における結晶方位を調整したとしても、リチウムイオン電池の充放電に伴う電解質層や電極の割れを完全に抑制することは難しい。リチウムイオン電池における電解質層や電極の割れは、リチウムイオン電池の充放電特性を低下させる虞がある。リチウムイオン電池において、電解質層や電極の割れが生じた場合に、充放電特性の低下をできるだけ抑えることが可能な技術が必要である。
本願は上記課題を解決するための手段として、以下の複数の態様を開示する。

本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、軟質で、且つ、加圧状態においてイオン伝導度が上昇する性質を有し、室温程度の低温下でも焼結反応のような反応を生じさせ得るものである。このようなリチウムイオン伝導体が、リチウムイオン電池の電極や電解質層の少なくとも一方に含まれることで、電極や電解質層に割れが生じた場合でも、リチウムイオン伝導体によって割れの界面が修復され、リチウムイオン伝導パスの途切れ等が生じ難い。すなわち、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を含むリチウムイオン電池は、電解質層や電極の割れが生じた場合でも、充放電特性が維持され易い。
1.リチウムイオン伝導体
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、LiGaX4(Xは1種以上のハロゲンである)で示される複合ハロゲン化物を含む。

1.1 LiGaX4で示される複合ハロゲン化物
本発明者の新たな知見によると、LiGaX4で示される複合ハロゲン化物は、加圧状態において室温でも界面抵抗が消失又は低下する「室温焼結機構」が働き、イオン伝導度が徐々に向上する性質を有する。一方で、リチウムイオン伝導体が各種の電気化学デバイスに適用された場合、当該リチウムイオン伝導体は少なからず加圧された状態となり得る。そのため、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、各種の電気化学デバイスにおいて、高いイオン伝導性を発揮し易い。また、当該複合ハロゲン化物は、比較的軟質であるため、周囲の材料の変形等に追従し得る。すなわち、材料の変形や割れ等によって生じた隙間が、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体によって埋められ、イオン伝導パスの途切れ等が生じ難い。
本発明者の新たな知見によると、LiGaX4で示される複合ハロゲン化物は、加圧状態において室温でも界面抵抗が消失又は低下する「室温焼結機構」が働き、イオン伝導度が徐々に向上する性質を有する。一方で、リチウムイオン伝導体が各種の電気化学デバイスに適用された場合、当該リチウムイオン伝導体は少なからず加圧された状態となり得る。そのため、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、各種の電気化学デバイスにおいて、高いイオン伝導性を発揮し易い。また、当該複合ハロゲン化物は、比較的軟質であるため、周囲の材料の変形等に追従し得る。すなわち、材料の変形や割れ等によって生じた隙間が、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体によって埋められ、イオン伝導パスの途切れ等が生じ難い。
リチウムイオン伝導体にLiGaX4で示される複合ハロゲン化物が含まれているか否かは、X線回折等によって確認可能である。すなわち、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体について、CuKαを線源とするX線回折ピークを取得した場合、当該X線回折ピーク中には、LiGaX4に由来する回折ピークが含まれる。本発明者が確認した限りにおいて、LiGaX4に由来する回折ピークは、Xの種類によって異なるが、例えば、LiGaCl4に由来する回折ピークは、15.3°±0.5°、18.1°±0.5°、18.7°±0.5°、19.4°±0.5°、及び、27.5°±0.5°に現れる。
LiGaX4で示される複合ハロゲン化物において、Xは1種以上のハロゲンであり、例えば、Cl、Br及びIからなる群より選ばれる少なくとも1つであってもよい。本発明者の新たな知見によれば、当該複合ハロゲン化物が、以下の(1)~(3)のうちの1つ又は2つ以上の構成を備える場合に、加圧状態に維持された場合のイオン伝導度の増加率が特に大きくなり易く、リチウムイオン伝導体として一層好ましいものとなり易い。
(1)上記の複合ハロゲン化物が、複数種類のハロゲンを含む。
(2)上記の複合ハロゲン化物が、Br及びClのうちの少なくとも一方を含む。
(3)上記の複合ハロゲン化物が、Br及びIを含む。
(1)上記の複合ハロゲン化物が、複数種類のハロゲンを含む。
(2)上記の複合ハロゲン化物が、Br及びClのうちの少なくとも一方を含む。
(3)上記の複合ハロゲン化物が、Br及びIを含む。
本発明者の知見によれば、複合ハロゲン化物がハロゲンとしてBrを含む場合、当該BrとともにCl及びIのうちの少なくとも1つを含むことで、加圧状態に維持された場合のイオン伝導度の増加比率が一層大きくなり易い。この場合、Brに対するClやIのモル比に特に制限はなく、どのようなモル比であっても高いイオン伝導性が確保され得る。また、複合ハロゲン化物がハロゲンとしてClとIとを含む場合は、当該ClとIとの合計に対するClのモル比が50モル%以上であると、加圧状態に維持された場合のイオン伝導度の増加率が特に高くなり易い。
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体において、上記の複合ハロゲン化物は、複数種類のLiGaX4からなる結晶構造を有していてもよく、複数種類のLiGaX4からなる共晶組織を有していてもよい。すなわち、上記の複合ハロゲン化物において、複数種類のLiGaX4が、互いに固溶や置換等されて、各々単独での構造や組織とは異なる構造や組織を有するものとなっていてもよい。上記の複合ハロゲン化物は、LiGaBr4とLiGaCl4との共晶組織を有していてもよいし、LiGaBr4とLiGaI4との共晶組織を有していてもよいし、LiGaCl4とLiGaI4との共晶組織を有していてもよいし、LiGaBr4とLiGaCl4とLiGaI4との共晶組織を有していてもよい。複数種類のLiGaX4の比率は特に限定されるものではない。例えば、上記の複合ハロゲン化物が、LiGaXa4(ここで、Xaは、Br、Cl及びIのうちの1つである)で示される第1複合ハロゲン化物と、LiGaXb4(ここで、Xbは、Xaとは異なるハロゲンであって、Br、Cl及びIのうちの1つである)で示される第2複合ハロゲン化物とを有するものである場合、第1複合ハロゲン化物と第2複合ハロゲン化物とのモル比(第1複合ハロゲン化物/第2複合ハロゲン化物)は、1/4以上4以下であってもよく、3/7以上7/3以下であってもよく、2/3以上3/2以下であってもよい。
1.2 LiGaX4で示される複合ハロゲン化物以外の成分
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、LiGaX4で示される複合ハロゲン化物以外に、その他のハロゲン化物を含んでいてもよい。例えば、LiX、GaX2、GaX3、LiGaX3等を含んでいてもよい。すなわち、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、その全体の化学組成としては、必ずしも、LiとGaとXとが1:1:4のモル比で含まれている必要は無い。また、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を構成する複合ハロゲン化物は、他のリチウム化合物を共晶化させることも可能と考えられ、その際にも同様の効果を発揮するものと考えられる。例えば、B系リチウム塩;Al系リチウム塩;In系リチウム塩;LiPF6、LiBF4といった他のハロゲン系リチウム塩;LiBH4やLiCBHといった水素化物系リチウム塩;Li3PS4、LPSIといったリチウム硫化物;LLZO、LPO、LLTOといったリチウム酸化物;硝酸塩、水酸化物、硫酸塩、炭酸塩といったその他の無機系リチウム化合物;等から選ばれる少なくとも1種の無機系リチウム化合物と、上記の複合ハロゲン化物とを共晶化させることで、無機系リチウム化合物を軟質化させたり、加圧状態におけるリチウムイオン伝導性を向上させたりすることが可能と考えられる。或いは、LiTFSA(LiTFSI、リチウムビストリフルオロメタンスルホニルイミド)、LiBETI(リチウムビスペンタフルオロエタンスルホニルイミド)、LiFSA(LiFSI、リチウムビスフルオロスルホニルイミド)、LiFTA(LiFTI、リチウムフルオロスルホニル(トリフルオロメタンスルホニル)イミド)といったアミド塩やイミド塩等の有機系リチウム塩と、上記の複合ハロゲン化物とを組み合わせることも可能である。このように、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、上記の複合ハロゲン化物のみによって構成されていてもよいし、上記の複合ハロゲン化物とともにその他のリチウム化合物等が組み合わされたものであってもよい。
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、LiGaX4で示される複合ハロゲン化物以外に、その他のハロゲン化物を含んでいてもよい。例えば、LiX、GaX2、GaX3、LiGaX3等を含んでいてもよい。すなわち、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、その全体の化学組成としては、必ずしも、LiとGaとXとが1:1:4のモル比で含まれている必要は無い。また、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を構成する複合ハロゲン化物は、他のリチウム化合物を共晶化させることも可能と考えられ、その際にも同様の効果を発揮するものと考えられる。例えば、B系リチウム塩;Al系リチウム塩;In系リチウム塩;LiPF6、LiBF4といった他のハロゲン系リチウム塩;LiBH4やLiCBHといった水素化物系リチウム塩;Li3PS4、LPSIといったリチウム硫化物;LLZO、LPO、LLTOといったリチウム酸化物;硝酸塩、水酸化物、硫酸塩、炭酸塩といったその他の無機系リチウム化合物;等から選ばれる少なくとも1種の無機系リチウム化合物と、上記の複合ハロゲン化物とを共晶化させることで、無機系リチウム化合物を軟質化させたり、加圧状態におけるリチウムイオン伝導性を向上させたりすることが可能と考えられる。或いは、LiTFSA(LiTFSI、リチウムビストリフルオロメタンスルホニルイミド)、LiBETI(リチウムビスペンタフルオロエタンスルホニルイミド)、LiFSA(LiFSI、リチウムビスフルオロスルホニルイミド)、LiFTA(LiFTI、リチウムフルオロスルホニル(トリフルオロメタンスルホニル)イミド)といったアミド塩やイミド塩等の有機系リチウム塩と、上記の複合ハロゲン化物とを組み合わせることも可能である。このように、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、上記の複合ハロゲン化物のみによって構成されていてもよいし、上記の複合ハロゲン化物とともにその他のリチウム化合物等が組み合わされたものであってもよい。
また、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、上記の複合ハロゲン化物と固体電解質との組み合わせであってもよい。固体電解質は、例えば、電池の固体電解質として用いられるものをいずれも採用可能である。固体電解質は、構成元素として少なくともLiとSとを含む硫化物固体電解質であってもよい。特に、構成元素として、少なくとも、Li、S及びPを含む硫化物固体電解質の性能が高く、Li3PS4骨格をベースとし、少なくとも1種類以上のハロゲンを含む硫化物固体電解質の性能も高い。硫化物固体電解質の一例としては、Li2S-P2S5、Li2S-SiS2、LiI-Li2S-SiS2、LiI-Si2S-P2S5、Li2S-P2S5-LiI-LiBr、LiI-Li2S-P2S5、LiI-Li2S-P2O5、LiI-Li3PO4-P2S5、Li2S-P2S5-GeS2等が挙げられる。硫化物固体電解質は、非晶質であってもよいし、結晶であってもよい。硫化物固体電解質は例えば粒子状であってもよい。硫化物固体電解質は1種のみが単独で用いられてもよいし、2種以上が組み合わされて用いられてもよい。
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体が、上記の複合ハロゲン化物とともに硫化物固体電解質を含む場合、硫化物固体電解質と複合ハロゲン化物との質量比は特に限定されるものではない。例えば、硫化物固体電解質と複合ハロゲン化物との合計を100質量%として、硫化物固体電解質の割合が40質量%以上100質量%未満、50質量%以上100質量%未満、60質量%以上100質量%未満、70質量%以上100質量%未満、又は、80質量%以上100質量%未満であってもよく、複合ハロゲン化物の割合が0質量%超60質量%以下、0質量%超50質量%以下、0質量%超40質量%以下、0質量%超30質量%以下、又は、0質量%超20質量%以下であってもよい。
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、電気化学デバイス材料として使用される際、上記の複合ハロゲン化物と、任意の固体電解質と、その他の成分とが組み合わされてもよい。その他の成分としては、リチウムイオン伝導体の具体的な用途に応じて適宜決定され得る。例えば、リチウムイオン伝導体がリチウムイオン電池の電極材料として用いられる場合、リチウムイオン伝導体とともに、活物質、導電助剤及びバインダー等が組み合わされてもよい。また、リチウムイオン伝導体がリチウムイオン電池の電解質層を構成する材料として用いられる場合、リチウムイオン伝導体とともにバインダー等が組み合わされてもよい。リチウムイオン伝導体は、上記の複合ハロゲン化物と、任意の固体電解質と、その他の電解質(硫化物固体電解質以外の固体電解質や液体電解質)とを含んでいてもよい。さらに、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、各種の添加剤を含んでいてもよい。
2.リチウムイオン電池
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、例えば、リチウムイオン電池におけるリチウムイオン伝導材料として適用可能である。図1に示されるように、一実施形態に係るリチウムイオン電池100は、正極10、電解質層20及び負極30を有する。ここで、正極10、電解質層20及び負極30のうちの少なくとも1つが、上記の本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を含む。上述の通り、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を構成する複合ハロゲン化物は、軟質であり、且つ、加圧状態が維持されるとイオン伝導度が徐々に向上するものである。そのため、例えば、電池の製造時に、当該複合ハロゲン化物が変形して、電極や電解質層の隙間を埋めることから、電極や電解質層における充填率が高まり易い。また、電池の使用時等において電極や電解質層に割れや剥離等が生じたとしても、割れ部分や剥離部分に当該複合ハロゲン化物が充填されることで、割れや剥離による隙間を解消することができ、イオン伝導パスの途切れ等が生じ難い。また、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、リチウムイオン電池の内部において、加圧された状態となり易く、優れたリチウムイオン伝導性を発揮し易い。さらに、リチウム金属を用いたリチウムイオン電池において、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を併用することで、デンドライトの発生を抑制する効果も期待できる。このように、リチウムイオン電池100の正極10、電解質層20及び負極30のうちの少なくとも1つに本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体が含まれることで、リチウムイオン電池100の性能が高まり易い。
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、例えば、リチウムイオン電池におけるリチウムイオン伝導材料として適用可能である。図1に示されるように、一実施形態に係るリチウムイオン電池100は、正極10、電解質層20及び負極30を有する。ここで、正極10、電解質層20及び負極30のうちの少なくとも1つが、上記の本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を含む。上述の通り、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を構成する複合ハロゲン化物は、軟質であり、且つ、加圧状態が維持されるとイオン伝導度が徐々に向上するものである。そのため、例えば、電池の製造時に、当該複合ハロゲン化物が変形して、電極や電解質層の隙間を埋めることから、電極や電解質層における充填率が高まり易い。また、電池の使用時等において電極や電解質層に割れや剥離等が生じたとしても、割れ部分や剥離部分に当該複合ハロゲン化物が充填されることで、割れや剥離による隙間を解消することができ、イオン伝導パスの途切れ等が生じ難い。また、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、リチウムイオン電池の内部において、加圧された状態となり易く、優れたリチウムイオン伝導性を発揮し易い。さらに、リチウム金属を用いたリチウムイオン電池において、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を併用することで、デンドライトの発生を抑制する効果も期待できる。このように、リチウムイオン電池100の正極10、電解質層20及び負極30のうちの少なくとも1つに本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体が含まれることで、リチウムイオン電池100の性能が高まり易い。
リチウムイオン電池100においては、上記本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体とともに、固体電解質、その他の液体電解質或いは液体添加剤が併用されてもよい。リチウムイオン電池100は、例えば、液体を含まない全固体電池であってもよいし、固体電解質と液体とを含むものであってもよい。特に、リチウムイオン電池100において、正極10、電解質層20及び負極30のうちの少なくとも1つが、上記本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体と、固体電解質(特に硫化物固体電解質)とを含む場合、固体電解質の変形や割れに対して本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体が追従でき、硫化物固体電解質の変形や割れ等によって隙間が生じたとしても、当該隙間に本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体が充填されることで、イオン伝導パスの途切れ等が抑制され得る。
2.1 正極
図1に示されるように、一実施形態に係る正極10は、正極活物質層11と正極集電体12とを備えるものであってよく、この場合、正極活物質層11が上記のリチウムイオン伝導体を含み得る。

2.1.1 正極活物質層
正極活物質層11は、正極活物質を含み、さらに任意に、電解質、導電助剤、バインダー等を含んでいてもよい。さらに、正極活物質層11はその他に各種の添加剤を含んでいてもよい。正極活物質層11が上記本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を電解質として含むものである場合、正極活物質層11は、当該リチウムイオン伝導体に加えて、正極活物質を含み、さらに任意に、その他の電解質、導電助剤、バインダー、各種の添加剤を含み得る。正極活物質層11における正極活物質、電解質、導電助剤及びバインダー等の各々の含有量は、目的とする電池性能に応じて適宜決定されればよい。例えば、正極活物質層11全体(固形分全体)を100質量%として、正極活物質の含有量が40質量%以上、50質量%以上又は60質量%以上であってもよく、100質量%未満又は90質量%以下であってもよい。正極活物質層11の形状は、特に限定されるものではなく、例えば、略平面を有するシート状であってもよい。正極活物質層11の厚みは、特に限定されるものではなく、例えば、0.1μm以上、1μm以上、10μm以上又は30μm以上であってもよく、2mm以下、1mm以下、500μm以下又は100μm以下であってもよい。
正極活物質層11は、正極活物質を含み、さらに任意に、電解質、導電助剤、バインダー等を含んでいてもよい。さらに、正極活物質層11はその他に各種の添加剤を含んでいてもよい。正極活物質層11が上記本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を電解質として含むものである場合、正極活物質層11は、当該リチウムイオン伝導体に加えて、正極活物質を含み、さらに任意に、その他の電解質、導電助剤、バインダー、各種の添加剤を含み得る。正極活物質層11における正極活物質、電解質、導電助剤及びバインダー等の各々の含有量は、目的とする電池性能に応じて適宜決定されればよい。例えば、正極活物質層11全体(固形分全体)を100質量%として、正極活物質の含有量が40質量%以上、50質量%以上又は60質量%以上であってもよく、100質量%未満又は90質量%以下であってもよい。正極活物質層11の形状は、特に限定されるものではなく、例えば、略平面を有するシート状であってもよい。正極活物質層11の厚みは、特に限定されるものではなく、例えば、0.1μm以上、1μm以上、10μm以上又は30μm以上であってもよく、2mm以下、1mm以下、500μm以下又は100μm以下であってもよい。
正極活物質としてはリチウムイオン電池の正極活物質として公知のものを用いればよい。公知の活物質のうち、リチウムイオンを吸蔵放出する電位(充放電電位)が、後述の負極活物質のそれよりも貴な電位を示す物質を正極活物質として用いることができる。正極活物質としてコバルト酸リチウム、ニッケル酸リチウム、マンガン酸リチウム、マンガンニッケルコバルト酸リチウム、スピネル系リチウム化合物等の各種のリチウム含有複合酸化物が用いられてもよいし、リチウム含有複合酸化物以外の酸化物系活物質が用いられてもよいし、或いは、単体硫黄や硫黄化合物などの硫黄系活物質が用いられてもよい。正極活物質は1種のみが単独で用いられてもよいし、2種以上が組み合わされて用いられてもよい。正極活物質は、例えば、粒子状であってもよく、その大きさは特に限定されるものではない。正極活物質の粒子は、中実の粒子であってもよく、中空の粒子であってもよく、空隙を有する粒子であってもよい。正極活物質の粒子は、一次粒子であってもよいし、複数の一次粒子が凝集した二次粒子であってもよい。正極活物質の粒子の平均粒子径(D50)は、例えば1nm以上、5nm以上、又は10nm以上であってもよく、また500μm以下、100μm以下、50μm以下、又は30μm以下であってもよい。尚、本願にいう平均粒子径D50とは、レーザー回折・散乱法によって求めた体積基準の粒度分布における積算値50%での粒子径(メジアン径)である。
正極活物質の表面は、イオン伝導性酸化物を含有する保護層によって被覆されていてもよい。すなわち、正極活物質層11には、上記の正極活物質と、その表面に設けられた保護層と、を備える複合体が含まれていてもよい。これにより、正極物活物質と硫化物(例えば、上述の硫化物固体電解質等)との反応等が抑制され易くなる。電池がリチウムイオン電池である場合、正極活物質の表面を被覆・保護するイオン伝導性酸化物としては、例えば、Li3BO3、LiBO2、Li2CO3、LiAlO2、Li4SiO4、Li2SiO3、Li3PO4、Li2SO4、Li2TiO3、Li4Ti5O12、Li2Ti2O5、Li2ZrO3、LiNbO3、Li2MoO4、Li2WO4が挙げられる。保護層の被覆率(面積率)は、例えば、70%以上であってもよく、80%以上であってもよく、90%以上であってもよい。保護層の厚さは、例えば、0.1nm以上又は1nm以上であってもよく、100nm以下又は20nm以下であってもよい。
正極活物質層11に含まれ得る電解質は、固体電解質であってもよく、液体電解質(電解液)であってもよく、これらの組み合わせであってもよい。
固体電解質は、リチウムイオン電池の固体電解質として公知のものを用いればよい。固体電解質は無機固体電解質であっても、有機ポリマー電解質であってもよい。特に、無機固体電解質は、イオン伝導性及び耐熱性に優れる。無機固体電解質としては、上述の硫化物固体電解質のほか、例えば、ランタンジルコン酸リチウム、LiPON、Li1+XAlXGe2-X(PO4)3、Li-SiO系ガラス、Li-Al-S-O系ガラス等の酸化物固体電解質を例示することができる。特に、硫化物固体電解質、中でも構成元素として少なくともLi、S及びPを含む硫化物固体電解質の性能が高い。正極活物質層11が本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体とともに固体電解質(特に、硫化物固体電解質)を含む場合、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体によって固体電解質の割れ等を修復する効果が期待できる。固体電解質は、非晶質であってもよいし、結晶であってもよい。固体電解質は例えば粒子状であってもよい。固体電解質は1種のみが単独で用いられてもよいし、2種以上が組み合わされて用いられてもよい。
電解液は、例えば、キャリアイオンとしてのリチウムイオンを含み得る。電解液は、例えば、非水系電解液であってもよい。例えば、電解液として、カーボネート系溶媒にリチウム塩を所定濃度で溶解させたものを用いることができる。カーボネート系溶媒としては、例えば、フルオロエチレンカーボネート(FEC)、エチレンカーボネート(EC)、ジメチルカーボネート(DMC)等が挙げられる。リチウム塩としては、例えば、六フッ化リン酸塩等が挙げられる。
正極活物質層11に含まれ得る導電助剤としては、例えば、気相法炭素繊維(VGCF)やアセチレンブラック(AB)やケッチェンブラック(KB)やカーボンナノチューブ(CNT)やカーボンナノファイバー(CNF)等の炭素材料;ニッケル、アルミニウム、ステンレス鋼等の金属材料が挙げられる。導電助剤は、例えば、粒子状又は繊維状であってもよく、その大きさは特に限定されるものではない。導電助剤は1種のみが単独で用いられてもよいし、2種以上が組み合わされて用いられてもよい。
正極活物質層11に含まれ得るバインダーとしては、例えば、ブタジエンゴム(BR)系バインダー、ブチレンゴム(IIR)系バインダー、アクリレートブタジエンゴム(ABR)系バインダー、スチレンブタジエンゴム(SBR)系バインダー、ポリフッ化ビニリデン(PVdF)系バインダー、ポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)系バインダー、ポリイミド(PI)系バインダー、ポリアクリル酸系バインダー等が挙げられる。バインダーは1種のみが単独で用いられてもよいし、2種以上が組み合わされて用いられてもよい。
2.1.2 正極集電体
図1に示されるように、正極10は、上記の正極活物質層11と接触する正極集電体12を備えていてもよい。正極集電体12は、電池の正極集電体として一般的なものをいずれも採用可能である。また、正極集電体12は、箔状、板状、メッシュ状、パンチングメタル状、及び、発泡体等であってよい。正極集電体12は、金属箔又は金属メッシュによって構成されていてもよい。特に、金属箔が取扱い性等に優れる。正極集電体12は、複数枚の箔からなっていてもよい。正極集電体12を構成する金属としては、Cu、Ni、Cr、Au、Pt、Ag、Al、Fe、Ti、Zn、Co、ステンレス鋼等が挙げられる。特に、酸化耐性を確保する観点等から、正極集電体12がAlを含むものであってもよい。正極集電体12は、その表面に、抵抗を調整すること等を目的として、何らかのコート層を有していてもよい。また、正極集電体12は、金属箔や基材に上記の金属がめっき又は蒸着されたものであってもよい。また、正極集電体12が複数枚の金属箔からなる場合、当該複数枚の金属箔間に何らかの層を有していてもよい。正極集電体12の厚みは特に限定されるものではない。例えば、0.1μm以上又は1μm以上であってもよく、1mm以下又は100μm以下であってもよい。
図1に示されるように、正極10は、上記の正極活物質層11と接触する正極集電体12を備えていてもよい。正極集電体12は、電池の正極集電体として一般的なものをいずれも採用可能である。また、正極集電体12は、箔状、板状、メッシュ状、パンチングメタル状、及び、発泡体等であってよい。正極集電体12は、金属箔又は金属メッシュによって構成されていてもよい。特に、金属箔が取扱い性等に優れる。正極集電体12は、複数枚の箔からなっていてもよい。正極集電体12を構成する金属としては、Cu、Ni、Cr、Au、Pt、Ag、Al、Fe、Ti、Zn、Co、ステンレス鋼等が挙げられる。特に、酸化耐性を確保する観点等から、正極集電体12がAlを含むものであってもよい。正極集電体12は、その表面に、抵抗を調整すること等を目的として、何らかのコート層を有していてもよい。また、正極集電体12は、金属箔や基材に上記の金属がめっき又は蒸着されたものであってもよい。また、正極集電体12が複数枚の金属箔からなる場合、当該複数枚の金属箔間に何らかの層を有していてもよい。正極集電体12の厚みは特に限定されるものではない。例えば、0.1μm以上又は1μm以上であってもよく、1mm以下又は100μm以下であってもよい。
正極10は、上記構成に加えて、リチウムイオン電池の正極として一般的な構成を備えていてもよい。例えば、タブや端子等である。正極10は、公知の方法を応用することにより製造することができる。例えば、上記の各種成分を含む正極合剤を乾式又は湿式にて成形すること等によって正極活物質層11を容易に形成可能である。正極活物質層11は、正極集電体12とともに成形されてもよいし、正極集電体12とは別に成形されてもよい。
2.2 電解質層
電解質層20は少なくとも電解質を含む。電解質層20は、固体電解質を含んでいてもよく、さらに任意にバインダー等を含んでいてもよい。電解質層20が上記本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を電解質として含むものである場合、電解質層20は、当該リチウムイオン伝導体に加えて、その他の電解質、バインダー及び各種添加剤をさらに含んでいてもよい。この場合、電解質層20における電解質とバインダー等との含有量は特に限定されない。或いは、電解質層20は、電解液を含むものであってもよく、さらに、当該電解液を保持するとともに、正極活物質層11と負極活物質層31との接触を防止するためのセパレータ等を有していてもよい。電解質層20の厚みは特に限定されるものではなく、例えば、0.1μm以上又は1μm以上であってもよく、2mm以下又は1mm以下であってもよい。
電解質層20は少なくとも電解質を含む。電解質層20は、固体電解質を含んでいてもよく、さらに任意にバインダー等を含んでいてもよい。電解質層20が上記本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を電解質として含むものである場合、電解質層20は、当該リチウムイオン伝導体に加えて、その他の電解質、バインダー及び各種添加剤をさらに含んでいてもよい。この場合、電解質層20における電解質とバインダー等との含有量は特に限定されない。或いは、電解質層20は、電解液を含むものであってもよく、さらに、当該電解液を保持するとともに、正極活物質層11と負極活物質層31との接触を防止するためのセパレータ等を有していてもよい。電解質層20の厚みは特に限定されるものではなく、例えば、0.1μm以上又は1μm以上であってもよく、2mm以下又は1mm以下であってもよい。
電解質層20に含まれる電解質としては、上記本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体や、上述の正極活物質層に含まれ得る電解質として例示されたものの中から適宜選択されればよい。例えば、電解質層20が本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体とともに固体電解質(特に、硫化物固体電解質)を含む場合、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体によって固体電解質の割れ等を修復する効果が期待できる。また、電解質層20に含まれ得るバインダーについても、上述の正極活物質層に含まれ得るバインダーとして例示したものの中から適宜選択されればよい。電解質やバインダーは、各々、1種のみが単独で用いられてもよいし、2種以上が組み合わされて用いられてもよい。リチウムイオン電池が電解液電池である場合、当該電解液を保持するためのセパレータは、リチウムイオン電池において通常用いられるセパレータであればよく、例えば、ポリエチレン(PE)、ポリプロピレン(PP)、ポリエステル及びポリアミド等の樹脂からなるもの等が挙げられる。セパレータは、単層構造であってもよく、複層構造であってもよい。複層構造のセパレータとしては、例えばPE/PPの2層構造のセパレータ、又は、PP/PE/PP若しくはPE/PP/PEの3層構造のセパレータ等を挙げることができる。セパレータは、セルロース不織布、樹脂不織布、ガラス繊維不織布といった不織布からなるものであってもよい。
2.3 負極
図1に示されるように、一実施形態に係る負極30は、負極活物質層31と負極集電体32とを備えるものであってよく、この場合、負極活物質層31が上記のリチウムイオン伝導体を含み得る。

2.3.1 負極活物質層
負極活物質層31は、負極活物質を含み、さらに任意に、電解質、導電助剤、バインダー等を含んでいてもよい。さらに、負極活物質層31はその他に各種の添加剤を含んでいてもよい。負極活物質層31が上記本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を電解質として含むものである場合、負極活物質層31は、当該リチウムイオン伝導体に加えて、負極活物質を含み、さらに任意に、その他の電解質、導電助剤、バインダー、各種の添加剤を含み得る。負極活物質層31における負極活物質、電解質、導電助剤及びバインダー等の各々の含有量は、目的とする電池性能に応じて適宜決定されればよい。例えば、負極活物質層31全体(固形分全体)を100質量%として、負極活物質の含有量が40質量%以上、50質量%以上又は60質量%以上であってもよく、100質量%未満又は90質量%以下であってもよい。負極活物質層31の形状は、特に限定されるものではなく、例えば、略平面を有するシート状であってもよい。負極活物質層31の厚みは、特に限定されるものではなく、例えば、0.1μm以上、1μm以上、10μm以上又は30μm以上であってもよく、2mm以下、1mm以下、500μm以下又は100μm以下であってもよい。
負極活物質層31は、負極活物質を含み、さらに任意に、電解質、導電助剤、バインダー等を含んでいてもよい。さらに、負極活物質層31はその他に各種の添加剤を含んでいてもよい。負極活物質層31が上記本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を電解質として含むものである場合、負極活物質層31は、当該リチウムイオン伝導体に加えて、負極活物質を含み、さらに任意に、その他の電解質、導電助剤、バインダー、各種の添加剤を含み得る。負極活物質層31における負極活物質、電解質、導電助剤及びバインダー等の各々の含有量は、目的とする電池性能に応じて適宜決定されればよい。例えば、負極活物質層31全体(固形分全体)を100質量%として、負極活物質の含有量が40質量%以上、50質量%以上又は60質量%以上であってもよく、100質量%未満又は90質量%以下であってもよい。負極活物質層31の形状は、特に限定されるものではなく、例えば、略平面を有するシート状であってもよい。負極活物質層31の厚みは、特に限定されるものではなく、例えば、0.1μm以上、1μm以上、10μm以上又は30μm以上であってもよく、2mm以下、1mm以下、500μm以下又は100μm以下であってもよい。
負極活物質としては、所定のイオンを吸蔵放出する電位(充放電電位)が上記の正極活物質と比べて卑な電位である種々の物質が採用され得る。例えば、SiやSi合金や酸化ケイ素等のシリコン系活物質;グラファイトやハードカーボン等の炭素系活物質;チタン酸リチウム等の各種酸化物系活物質;金属リチウムやリチウム合金等が採用され得る。負極活物質は、1種のみが単独で用いられてもよいし、2種以上が組み合わされて用いられてもよい。負極活物質の形状は、リチウムイオン電池の負極活物質として一般的な形状であればよい。例えば、負極活物質は粒子状であってもよい。負極活物質粒子は、一次粒子であってもよいし、複数の一次粒子が凝集した二次粒子であってもよい。負極活物質粒子の平均粒子径(D50)は、例えば1nm以上、5nm以上、又は10nm以上であってもよく、また500μm以下、100μm以下、50μm以下、又は30μm以下であってもよい。或いは、負極活物質はリチウム箔等のシート状(箔状、膜状)であってもよい。すなわち、負極活物質層31が負極活物質のシートからなるものであってもよい。
負極活物質層31に含まれ得る電解質としては、上記本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体、上述の固体電解質、電解液又はこれらの組み合わせが挙げられる。例えば、負極活物質層31が本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体とともに固体電解質(特に、硫化物固体電解質)を含む場合、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体によって固体電解質の割れ等を修復する効果が期待できる。負極活物質層31に含まれ得る導電助剤としては上述の炭素材料や上述の金属材料が挙げられる。負極活物質層31に含まれ得るバインダーは、例えば、上述の正極活物質層11に含まれ得るバインダーとして例示したものの中から適宜選択されればよい。電解質やバインダーは、各々、1種のみが単独で用いられてもよいし、2種以上が組み合わされて用いられてもよい。
2.3.2 負極集電体
図1に示されるように、負極30は、上記の負極活物質層31と接触する負極集電体32を備えていてもよい。負極集電体32は、電池の負極集電体として一般的なものをいずれも採用可能である。また、負極集電体32は、箔状、板状、メッシュ状、パンチングメタル状、及び、発泡体等であってよい。負極集電体32は、金属箔又は金属メッシュであってもよく、或いは、カーボンシートであってもよい。特に、金属箔が取扱い性等に優れる。負極集電体32は、複数枚の箔やシートからなっていてもよい。負極集電体32を構成する金属としては、Cu、Ni、Cr、Au、Pt、Ag、Al、Fe、Ti、Zn、Co、ステンレス鋼等が挙げられる。特に、還元耐性を確保する観点及びリチウムと合金化し難い観点から、負極集電体32がCu、Ni及びステンレス鋼から選ばれる少なくとも1種の金属を含むものであってもよい。負極集電体32は、その表面に、抵抗を調整すること等を目的として、何らかのコート層を有していてもよい。また、負極集電体32は、金属箔や基材に上記の金属がめっき又は蒸着されたものであってもよい。また、負極集電体32が複数枚の金属箔からなる場合、当該複数枚の金属箔の間に何らかの層を有していてもよい。負極集電体32の厚みは特に限定されるものではない。例えば、0.1μm以上又は1μm以上であってもよく、1mm以下又は100μm以下であってもよい。

負極30は、上記構成に加えて、リチウムイオン電池の負極として一般的な構成を備えていてもよい。例えば、タブや端子等である。負極30は、公知の方法を応用することにより製造することができる。例えば、上記の各種成分を含む負極合剤を乾式又は湿式にて成形すること等によって負極活物質層31を容易に形成可能である。負極活物質層31は、負極集電体32とともに成形されてもよいし、負極集電体32とは別に成形されてもよい。
2.4 その他の事項
リチウムイオン電池100は、上記の各構成が外装体の内部に収容されたものであってもよい。外装体は、電池の外装体として公知のものをいずれも採用可能である。また、複数のリチウムイオン電池100が、任意に電気的に接続され、また、任意に重ね合わされて、組電池とされていてもよい。この場合、公知の電池ケースの内部に当該組電池が収容されてもよい。リチウムイオン電池100は、このほか必要な端子等の自明な構成を備えていてよい。リチウムイオン電池100の形状としては、例えば、コイン型、ラミネート型、円筒型、及び角型等を挙げることができる。
リチウムイオン電池100は、上記の各構成が外装体の内部に収容されたものであってもよい。外装体は、電池の外装体として公知のものをいずれも採用可能である。また、複数のリチウムイオン電池100が、任意に電気的に接続され、また、任意に重ね合わされて、組電池とされていてもよい。この場合、公知の電池ケースの内部に当該組電池が収容されてもよい。リチウムイオン電池100は、このほか必要な端子等の自明な構成を備えていてよい。リチウムイオン電池100の形状としては、例えば、コイン型、ラミネート型、円筒型、及び角型等を挙げることができる。
リチウムイオン電池100は、公知の方法を応用することで製造することができる。例えば以下のようにして製造することができる。ただし、リチウムイオン電池100の製造方法は、以下の方法に限定されるものではなく、例えば、乾式成形等によって各層が形成されてもよい。
(1)正極活物質層を構成する正極活物質等を溶媒に分散させて正極層用スラリーを得る。この場合に用いられる溶媒としては、特に限定されるものではなく、水や各種有機溶媒を用いることができる。ドクターブレード等を用いて正極層用スラリーを正極集電体の表面に塗工し、その後乾燥させることで、正極集電体の表面に正極活物質層を形成し、正極とする。
(2)負極活物質層を構成する負極活物質等を溶媒に分散させて負極層用スラリーを得る。この場合に用いられる溶媒としては、特に限定されるものではなく、水や各種有機溶媒を用いることができる。ドクターブレード等を用いて負極層用スラリーを負極集電体の表面に塗工し、その後乾燥させることで、負極集電体の表面に負極活物質層を形成し、負極とする。
(3)負極と正極とで電解質層(固体電解質層又はセパレータ)を挟み込むように各層を積層し、負極集電体、負極活物質層、電解質層、正極活物質層及び正極集電体をこの順に有する積層体を得る。積層体には必要に応じて端子等のその他の部材を取り付ける。
(4)積層体を電池ケースに収容し、電解液電池の場合は電池ケース内に電解液を充填し、積層体を電解液に浸漬するようにして、電池ケース内に積層体を密封することで、リチウムイオン電池とする。尚、電解液を含む電池の場合に上記(3)の段階で負極活物質層、セパレータ及び正極活物質層に電解液を含ませてもよい。
(1)正極活物質層を構成する正極活物質等を溶媒に分散させて正極層用スラリーを得る。この場合に用いられる溶媒としては、特に限定されるものではなく、水や各種有機溶媒を用いることができる。ドクターブレード等を用いて正極層用スラリーを正極集電体の表面に塗工し、その後乾燥させることで、正極集電体の表面に正極活物質層を形成し、正極とする。
(2)負極活物質層を構成する負極活物質等を溶媒に分散させて負極層用スラリーを得る。この場合に用いられる溶媒としては、特に限定されるものではなく、水や各種有機溶媒を用いることができる。ドクターブレード等を用いて負極層用スラリーを負極集電体の表面に塗工し、その後乾燥させることで、負極集電体の表面に負極活物質層を形成し、負極とする。
(3)負極と正極とで電解質層(固体電解質層又はセパレータ)を挟み込むように各層を積層し、負極集電体、負極活物質層、電解質層、正極活物質層及び正極集電体をこの順に有する積層体を得る。積層体には必要に応じて端子等のその他の部材を取り付ける。
(4)積層体を電池ケースに収容し、電解液電池の場合は電池ケース内に電解液を充填し、積層体を電解液に浸漬するようにして、電池ケース内に積層体を密封することで、リチウムイオン電池とする。尚、電解液を含む電池の場合に上記(3)の段階で負極活物質層、セパレータ及び正極活物質層に電解液を含ませてもよい。
3.リチウムイオン伝導体の製造方法
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、例えば、ハロゲン化リチウムと、ハロゲン化ガリウムとを混合することによって製造することができる。具体的には、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体の製造方法は、少なくとも1種のハロゲン化リチウムと、少なくとも1種のハロゲン化ガリウムとを混合して、LiGaX4(Xは1種以上のハロゲンである)で示される複合ハロゲン化物を得ること、を含んでいてもよい。
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、例えば、ハロゲン化リチウムと、ハロゲン化ガリウムとを混合することによって製造することができる。具体的には、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体の製造方法は、少なくとも1種のハロゲン化リチウムと、少なくとも1種のハロゲン化ガリウムとを混合して、LiGaX4(Xは1種以上のハロゲンである)で示される複合ハロゲン化物を得ること、を含んでいてもよい。
3.1 ハロゲン化リチウム
ハロゲン化リチウムとしては、塩化リチウム、臭化リチウム、ヨウ化リチウム、又は、これらの組み合わせが挙げられる。ハロゲン化リチウムは、ハロゲン化ガリウムと混合可能な形態であればよく、例えば、粒子状であってもよい。
ハロゲン化リチウムとしては、塩化リチウム、臭化リチウム、ヨウ化リチウム、又は、これらの組み合わせが挙げられる。ハロゲン化リチウムは、ハロゲン化ガリウムと混合可能な形態であればよく、例えば、粒子状であってもよい。
3.2 ハロゲン化ガリウム
ハロゲン化ガリウムとしては、塩化ガリウム、臭化ガリウム、ヨウ化ガリウム、又は、これらの組み合わせが挙げられる。ハロゲン化ガリウムは、ハロゲン化リチウムと混合可能な形態であればよく、例えば、粒子状であってもよい。ハロゲン化ガリウムにおけるガリウムの価数は、2価であっても、3価であってもよいが、特に3価である場合に高いイオン伝導度が確保され易い。すなわち、ハロゲン化ガリウムとしてGaX3(Xは1種以上のハロゲンである)が用いられるとよい。
ハロゲン化ガリウムとしては、塩化ガリウム、臭化ガリウム、ヨウ化ガリウム、又は、これらの組み合わせが挙げられる。ハロゲン化ガリウムは、ハロゲン化リチウムと混合可能な形態であればよく、例えば、粒子状であってもよい。ハロゲン化ガリウムにおけるガリウムの価数は、2価であっても、3価であってもよいが、特に3価である場合に高いイオン伝導度が確保され易い。すなわち、ハロゲン化ガリウムとしてGaX3(Xは1種以上のハロゲンである)が用いられるとよい。
3.3 混合比
ハロゲン化リチウムとハロゲン化ガリウムとの混合比は、混合後のリチウムイオン伝導体において、LiGaX4が生成するような比率であればよい。例えば、ハロゲン化リチウムにおけるリチウムとハロゲン化ガリウムにおけるガリウムとのモル比(Li/Ga)は、0.6以上1.5以下であってもよい。当該モル比は、0.7以上、0.8以上、又は、0.9以上であってもよく、1.4以下、1.3以下、1.2以下、又は、1.1以下であってもよい。
ハロゲン化リチウムとハロゲン化ガリウムとの混合比は、混合後のリチウムイオン伝導体において、LiGaX4が生成するような比率であればよい。例えば、ハロゲン化リチウムにおけるリチウムとハロゲン化ガリウムにおけるガリウムとのモル比(Li/Ga)は、0.6以上1.5以下であってもよい。当該モル比は、0.7以上、0.8以上、又は、0.9以上であってもよく、1.4以下、1.3以下、1.2以下、又は、1.1以下であってもよい。
3.4 混合手段
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を構成する複合ハロゲン化物は、例えば、上記のハロゲン化リチウムとハロゲン化ガリウムとに対して応力を付与しつつ混合することによって製造することができる。応力としては、例えば、摩擦力、せん断力、ずり応力、衝撃力等であってよい。混合時にこのような応力を印加する方法としては、例えば、ボールミル等の機械的混合手段によって粉砕しつつ混合する方法等が挙げられる。
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を構成する複合ハロゲン化物は、例えば、上記のハロゲン化リチウムとハロゲン化ガリウムとに対して応力を付与しつつ混合することによって製造することができる。応力としては、例えば、摩擦力、せん断力、ずり応力、衝撃力等であってよい。混合時にこのような応力を印加する方法としては、例えば、ボールミル等の機械的混合手段によって粉砕しつつ混合する方法等が挙げられる。
4.リチウムイオン伝導体の使用方法
本開示の技術は、リチウムイオン伝導体の使用方法としての側面も有する。すなわち、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体の使用方法は、電気化学デバイスにおいて本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を加圧しながら使用することを特徴とする。例えば、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、リチウムイオン電池の正極、電解質層及び負極のうちの少なくとも1つにおいて、加圧された状態で使用される。リチウムイオン伝導体に対して加えられる圧力の大きさは、特に限定されるものではない。例えば、リチウムイオン伝導体がリチウムイオン電池の正極、電解質層及び負極のうちの少なくとも1つにおいて、加圧された状態で含まれる場合、当該リチウムイオン伝導体に加わる圧力は0.1MPa以上100MPa以下、1MPa以上50MPa以下、又は、5MPa以上又は30MPa以下であってもよい。
本開示の技術は、リチウムイオン伝導体の使用方法としての側面も有する。すなわち、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体の使用方法は、電気化学デバイスにおいて本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を加圧しながら使用することを特徴とする。例えば、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体は、リチウムイオン電池の正極、電解質層及び負極のうちの少なくとも1つにおいて、加圧された状態で使用される。リチウムイオン伝導体に対して加えられる圧力の大きさは、特に限定されるものではない。例えば、リチウムイオン伝導体がリチウムイオン電池の正極、電解質層及び負極のうちの少なくとも1つにおいて、加圧された状態で含まれる場合、当該リチウムイオン伝導体に加わる圧力は0.1MPa以上100MPa以下、1MPa以上50MPa以下、又は、5MPa以上又は30MPa以下であってもよい。
5.リチウムイオン電池の充放電方法、及び、リチウムイオン電池のサイクル特性を改善する方法
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体がリチウムイオン電池の正極、電解質層及び負極のうちの少なくとも1つに含まれる場合、当該リチウムイオン電池の充放電サイクル特性が改善され易い。すなわち、本開示のリチウムイオン電池の充放電方法やリチウムイオン電池のサイクル特性を改善する方法は、前記リチウムイオン電池の充電及び放電を繰り返すことを含み、前記リチウムイオン電池が、正極、電解質層及び負極を有し、前記正極、前記電解質層及び前記負極のうちの少なくとも1つが、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を含み、前記リチウムイオン電池の充放電に伴って前記正極、前記電解質層及び前記負極のうちの少なくとも1つに隙間が生じた場合に、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体によって前記隙間の少なくとも一部を解消することを特徴とする。ここで、「隙間」とは、活物質の体積変化に伴って前記正極、前記電解質層及び前記負極のうちの少なくとも1つに生じ得るものであってよい。「隙間」は、「割れ」等を含む概念である。当該隙間の少なくとも一部が本開示のイオン伝導体によって解消されること(すなわち、隙間の少なくとも一部に本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体が充填されること)により、隙間によって途切れたイオン伝導パスや導電パスを回復することができるものと考えられる。
本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体がリチウムイオン電池の正極、電解質層及び負極のうちの少なくとも1つに含まれる場合、当該リチウムイオン電池の充放電サイクル特性が改善され易い。すなわち、本開示のリチウムイオン電池の充放電方法やリチウムイオン電池のサイクル特性を改善する方法は、前記リチウムイオン電池の充電及び放電を繰り返すことを含み、前記リチウムイオン電池が、正極、電解質層及び負極を有し、前記正極、前記電解質層及び前記負極のうちの少なくとも1つが、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を含み、前記リチウムイオン電池の充放電に伴って前記正極、前記電解質層及び前記負極のうちの少なくとも1つに隙間が生じた場合に、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体によって前記隙間の少なくとも一部を解消することを特徴とする。ここで、「隙間」とは、活物質の体積変化に伴って前記正極、前記電解質層及び前記負極のうちの少なくとも1つに生じ得るものであってよい。「隙間」は、「割れ」等を含む概念である。当該隙間の少なくとも一部が本開示のイオン伝導体によって解消されること(すなわち、隙間の少なくとも一部に本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体が充填されること)により、隙間によって途切れたイオン伝導パスや導電パスを回復することができるものと考えられる。
6.リチウムイオン電池を有する車両
上述の通り、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体がリチウムイオン電池の正極、電解質層及び負極のうちの少なくとも1つに含まれる場合、当該リチウムイオン電池の充放電サイクル特性の改善が期待できる。このように充放電サイクル特性に優れるリチウムイオン電池は、例えば、ハイブリッド車(HEV)、プラグインハイブリッド車(PHEV)及び電気自動車(BEV)から選ばれる少なくとも1種の車両において好適に使用され得る。すなわち、本開示の技術は、リチウムイオン電池を有する車両であって、前記リチウムイオン電池が、正極、電解質層及び負極を有し、前記正極、前記電解質層及び前記負極のうちの少なくとも1つが、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を含むもの、としての側面も有する。
上述の通り、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体がリチウムイオン電池の正極、電解質層及び負極のうちの少なくとも1つに含まれる場合、当該リチウムイオン電池の充放電サイクル特性の改善が期待できる。このように充放電サイクル特性に優れるリチウムイオン電池は、例えば、ハイブリッド車(HEV)、プラグインハイブリッド車(PHEV)及び電気自動車(BEV)から選ばれる少なくとも1種の車両において好適に使用され得る。すなわち、本開示の技術は、リチウムイオン電池を有する車両であって、前記リチウムイオン電池が、正極、電解質層及び負極を有し、前記正極、前記電解質層及び前記負極のうちの少なくとも1つが、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体を含むもの、としての側面も有する。
以上の通り、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体、リチウムイオン電池及びリチウムイオン伝導体の製造方法の一実施形態について説明したが、本開示のリチウムイオン伝導体、リチウムイオン電池及びリチウムイオン伝導体の製造方法は、その要旨を逸脱しない範囲で上記の実施形態以外に種々変更が可能である。以下、実施例を示しつつ、本開示の技術についてさらに詳細に説明するが、本開示の技術は以下の実施例に限定されるものではない。
1.リチウムイオン伝導体としての複合ハロゲン化物の合成
1.1 実施例1
LiCl(高純度化学社製)とGaCl3(東京化成工業社製)とをモル比で50:50となるように秤量し、500mlのZrO2ポットに投入し、φ5mmのZrO2ボールを入れて、ヘプタン(関東化学社製)を100g入れた状態で、回転数300rpmで1時間の粉砕を行い、これを20セット繰り返した。混合物を乾燥して、LiGaCl4を得た。
1.1 実施例1
LiCl(高純度化学社製)とGaCl3(東京化成工業社製)とをモル比で50:50となるように秤量し、500mlのZrO2ポットに投入し、φ5mmのZrO2ボールを入れて、ヘプタン(関東化学社製)を100g入れた状態で、回転数300rpmで1時間の粉砕を行い、これを20セット繰り返した。混合物を乾燥して、LiGaCl4を得た。

LiClに替えてLiI(高純度化学社製)を用い、GaCl3に替えてGaI3(アルドリッチ社製)を用いたこと以外は、実施例1と同様にして混合を行い、LiGaI4を得た。実施例1と同様の手法で合成したLiGaCl4と、LiGaI4とを、モル比で80:20となるように混合し、融点以上の温度で加熱撹拌することによって融液を得た。得られた融液を室温まで冷却後、乳鉢で粉砕することで、溶融塩である80LiGaCl4-20LiGaI4を得た。

LiGaCl4とLiGaI4とを、モル比で50:50となるように混合したこと以外は、実施例2と同様の手順で、溶融塩である50LiGaCl4-50LiGaI4を得た。

1.4 実施例4
LiClに替えてLiBr(高純度化学社製)を用い、GaCl3に替えてGaBr3(アルファ社製)を用いたこと以外は、実施例1と同様にして混合を行い、LiGaBr4を合成した。実施例1と同様の手法で合成したLiGaCl4と、LiGaBr4とを、モル比で80:20となるように混合し、融点以上の温度で加熱撹拌することによって融液を得た。得られた融液を室温まで冷却後、乳鉢で粉砕することで、溶融塩である80LiGaCl4-20LiGaBr4を得た。

LiGaCl4とLiGaBr4とを、モル比で50:50となるように混合したこと以外は、実施例4と同様の手順で、溶融塩である50LiGaCl4-50LiGaBr4を得た。

1.6 実施例6
LiGaCl4とLiGaBr4とを、モル比で20:80となるように混合したこと以外は、実施例4と同様の手順で、溶融塩である20LiGaCl4-80LiGaBr4を得た。
LiGaCl4とLiGaBr4とを、モル比で20:80となるように混合したこと以外は、実施例4と同様の手順で、溶融塩である20LiGaCl4-80LiGaBr4を得た。
1.7 実施例7
LiClに替えてLiBr(高純度化学社製)を用い、GaCl3に替えてGaBr3(アルファ社製)を用いたこと以外は、実施例1と同様にして混合を行い、LiGaBr4を得た。

1.8 実施例8
LiGaBr4と、LiGaI4とを、モル比で80:20となるように混合し、融点以上の温度で加熱撹拌することによって融液を得た。得られた融液を室温まで冷却後、乳鉢で粉砕することで、溶融塩である80LiGaBr4-20LiGaI4を得た。

LiGaBr4と、LiGaI4とを、モル比で70:30となるように混合し、融点以上の温度で加熱撹拌することによって融液を得た。得られた融液を室温まで冷却後、乳鉢で粉砕することで、溶融塩である70LiGaBr4-30LiGaI4を得た。

1.10 実施例10
LiGaBr4と、LiGaI4とを、モル比で60:40となるように混合し、融点以上の温度で加熱撹拌することによって融液を得た。得られた融液を室温まで冷却後、乳鉢で粉砕することで、溶融塩である60LiGaBr4-40LiGaI4を得た。

1.14 比較例1
LiClと、AlCl3(和光純薬社製)とを、モル比で50:50となるように秤量し、500mlのZrO2ポットに投入し、φ5mmのZrO2ボールを入れて、ヘプタン(関東化学社製)を100g入れた状態で、回転数300rpmで1時間の粉砕を行い、これを20セット繰り返した。混合物を乾燥して、LiAlCl4を得た。
LiClと、AlCl3(和光純薬社製)とを、モル比で50:50となるように秤量し、500mlのZrO2ポットに投入し、φ5mmのZrO2ボールを入れて、ヘプタン(関東化学社製)を100g入れた状態で、回転数300rpmで1時間の粉砕を行い、これを20セット繰り返した。混合物を乾燥して、LiAlCl4を得た。
1.15 比較例2
Li-P-S-I-Br系の硫化物固体電解質を用意した。

2.結晶構造の確認
図2に、実施例1のLiGaCl4についてのX線回折ピークを示す。図2から明らかなように、ボールミルによる混合後に得られるLiGaCl4についてのX線回折ピークにおいて、原料であるLiClやGaCl3に由来するピークは実質的に確認されず(或いは、原料ままと比較してピークが低減しており)、LiClやGaCl3とは異なる結晶相が生成しており、具体的にはLiGaCl4に係る結晶相が生成していることが分かる。同様に、実施例7については、LiGaBr4に係る結晶相が確認され、また、実施例2~6及び実施例8~13については、各々の複合ハロゲン化物の共晶組織を有していることが確認された。
図2に、実施例1のLiGaCl4についてのX線回折ピークを示す。図2から明らかなように、ボールミルによる混合後に得られるLiGaCl4についてのX線回折ピークにおいて、原料であるLiClやGaCl3に由来するピークは実質的に確認されず(或いは、原料ままと比較してピークが低減しており)、LiClやGaCl3とは異なる結晶相が生成しており、具体的にはLiGaCl4に係る結晶相が生成していることが分かる。同様に、実施例7については、LiGaBr4に係る結晶相が確認され、また、実施例2~6及び実施例8~13については、各々の複合ハロゲン化物の共晶組織を有していることが確認された。
3.イオン伝導度の測定
実施例1~13及び比較例1、2の各々のリチウムイオン伝導体のイオン伝導度を測定した。具体的には、イオン伝導体150mgをシリンダー内に充填し、一軸プレスすることでペレットセルを作製した。これをデシケータに入れた状態で、恒温槽にて25℃のインピーダンス測定を実施した。得られた抵抗値とサンプル厚みからプレス後のイオン伝導度を算出した。このペレットセルを恒温槽内で一定時間放置し、抵抗減少が飽和した時点での抵抗値を読み取り、保存後のイオン伝導度を算出した。
実施例1~13及び比較例1、2の各々のリチウムイオン伝導体のイオン伝導度を測定した。具体的には、イオン伝導体150mgをシリンダー内に充填し、一軸プレスすることでペレットセルを作製した。これをデシケータに入れた状態で、恒温槽にて25℃のインピーダンス測定を実施した。得られた抵抗値とサンプル厚みからプレス後のイオン伝導度を算出した。このペレットセルを恒温槽内で一定時間放置し、抵抗減少が飽和した時点での抵抗値を読み取り、保存後のイオン伝導度を算出した。
4.評価用電池の作製及び評価
4.1 応用実施例1
4.1.1 負極合材の作製
比較例2の硫化物固体電解質と、実施例2の溶融塩とを、体積比率で80:20となるように秤量し、混合電解質を得た。負極活物質としての結晶性Siと、混合電解質と、導電助剤としてのVGCFとを、乳鉢で混合して負極合材を得た。
4.1 応用実施例1
4.1.1 負極合材の作製
比較例2の硫化物固体電解質と、実施例2の溶融塩とを、体積比率で80:20となるように秤量し、混合電解質を得た。負極活物質としての結晶性Siと、混合電解質と、導電助剤としてのVGCFとを、乳鉢で混合して負極合材を得た。
4.1.2 正極合材の作製
正極活物質としてのLiNbO3で被覆されたNCM(LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2)と、比較例2の硫化物固体電解質と、導電助剤としてのVGCFとを、乳鉢で混合して正極合材を得た。

4.1.3 セルの作製
φ11.28mmのアルミナシリンダーに、正極合材、比較例2の硫化物固体電解質、及び、負極合材を層状に積層した状態で、6tプレスを実施し、正極合材層/硫化物固体電解質層/負極合材層からなる積層体を得た。当該積層体を6Nで拘束することで、評価用の全固体電池を作製した。
φ11.28mmのアルミナシリンダーに、正極合材、比較例2の硫化物固体電解質、及び、負極合材を層状に積層した状態で、6tプレスを実施し、正極合材層/硫化物固体電解質層/負極合材層からなる積層体を得た。当該積層体を6Nで拘束することで、評価用の全固体電池を作製した。
4.1.4 充放電サイクル試験
作製した全固体電池を、室温にて、1/3Cの充放電レートでCCCV充放電を50サイクル繰り返し、初回の容量に対する50サイクル後の容量の比を「容量維持率」として算出した。

4.2 応用比較例1
負極合材において、実施例2の溶融塩に替えて比較例1のLiAlCl4を用いたこと以外は、応用実施例1と同様にして全固体電池を作製し、充放電サイクル試験を行った。

4.3 応用比較例2
負極合材において、電解質として比較例2の硫化物固体電解質のみを用いたこと以外は、応用実施例1と同様にして全固体電池を作製し、充放電サイクル試験を行った。
負極合材において、電解質として比較例2の硫化物固体電解質のみを用いたこと以外は、応用実施例1と同様にして全固体電池を作製し、充放電サイクル試験を行った。
5.評価結果
下記表1に、実施例1~13及び比較例1、2の各々のリチウムイオン伝導体の種類及びイオン伝導度を示す。また、下記表2に、応用実施例1及び応用比較例1、2の各々の全固体電池の容量維持率の測定結果を示す。さらに、図3に、実施例2のペレットセルについてのイオン伝導度の時間依存性を示す。
下記表1に、実施例1~13及び比較例1、2の各々のリチウムイオン伝導体の種類及びイオン伝導度を示す。また、下記表2に、応用実施例1及び応用比較例1、2の各々の全固体電池の容量維持率の測定結果を示す。さらに、図3に、実施例2のペレットセルについてのイオン伝導度の時間依存性を示す。
表1及び2並びに図3に示される結果から以下のことが分かる。
表1に示されるように、実施例1~13のリチウムイオン伝導体は、加圧状態が維持された場合に、室温(25℃)にも関わらず、イオン伝導度が徐々に向上することが分かる。すなわち、実施例1~13のリチウムイオン伝導体は、加圧状態において室温でも界面抵抗が消失又は低下する「室温焼結機構」が働くものと考えられる。具体的には、実施例1~13に係るリチウムイオン伝導体は、加圧してペレットセルとされた際に室温焼結が起こり、界面抵抗が徐々に消失し、イオン伝導度が上昇する。図3に示されるように、このペレットセルを粉砕し、再び加圧成型してペレットセルを構成した場合、粉砕前と同様に界面抵抗が消失してイオン伝導度が上昇することがわかる。すなわち、実施例1~13のリチウムイオン伝導体は、加圧による室温焼結及び界面抵抗の消失を繰り返し起こすことができるものであることが分かる。また、実施例1~13に係るリチウムイオン伝導体は、比較的軟質であり、周囲の材料の変形に追従可能である。このようなリチウムイオン伝導体をリチウムイオン電池内に適用した場合、充放電時に活物質が膨張収縮して固体電解質に割れ等が起こっても、当該リチウムイオン伝導体によって割れ界面が繰り返し修復されるものと考えられる。その結果、表2に示されるように、電池のサイクル特性が向上し、充放電サイクル前後において高い容量を維持することができる。このような効果は、比較例1、2においては確認されず、LiとGaとの複合ハロゲン化物による特有の効果であることが分かる。
尚、上記の実施例1~13では、LiGaX4(Xは1種以上のハロゲンである)で示される複合ハロゲン化物を含むリチウムイオン伝導体を、リチウムイオン電池の負極に適用した場合を例示したが、当該リチウムイオン伝導体は、正極、電解質層及び負極のいずれに含まれていても、所望の効果が奏されるものと考えられる。特に負極に含まれることで、一層高い効果が期待できる。例えば、負極活物質として合金系活物質(Si、Si合金、Sn、Sn合金等、特にSi)を用いた場合、充放電時の負極活物質の膨張収縮が大きく、充放電に伴って負極中に割れや剥離等が生じ易いところ、上記のリチウムイオン伝導体を含ませることで、割れ界面が当該リチウムイオン伝導体によって修復され、イオン伝導パスの途切れ等が顕著に抑制され易い。
また、上記の実施例1~13では、LiGaX4(Xは1種以上のハロゲンである)で示される複合ハロゲン化物を含むリチウムイオン伝導体を、液体を実質的に含まない全固体リチウムイオン電池に適用した場合を例示したが、当該リチウムイオン伝導体は、液体を含むリチウムイオン電池においても適用可能である。ただし、当該リチウムイオン伝導体が固体電解質とともに用いられた場合に、固体電解質の割れや剥離を修復する効果が発揮され易い。すなわち、当該リチウムイオン伝導体は、固体電解質を含む電池に適用された場合に、より高い効果が期待できる。
以上の結果から、LiGaX4(Xは1種以上のハロゲンである)で示される複合ハロゲン化物を含むリチウムイオン伝導体は、軟質で、且つ、加圧状態においてイオン伝導度が高くなる性質を有し、室温程度の低温下でも焼結反応のような反応を生じさせ得るものといえる。このようなリチウムイオン伝導体が、リチウムイオン電池の電極や電解質層の少なくとも一方に含まれることで、電極や電解質層に割れが生じた場合でも、リチウムイオン伝導体によって割れの界面が修復され、リチウムイオン伝導パスの途切れ等が抑制され得る。すなわち、当該リチウムイオン伝導体を含むリチウムイオン電池は、電解質層や電極の割れが生じた場合でも、充放電特性が維持され易い。
