Definitions
- the present invention relates to a module battery in which a large number of high-temperature operation secondary batteries are connected, and is particularly directed to the structure of its current-carrying path.
- a sodium-sulfur battery (hereinafter referred to as a NaS battery) is already known as a storage battery that is used in connection with an electric power system.
- a single NaS battery (single battery) is roughly composed of metallic sodium (Na) and sulfur (S), which are active materials, in a cell (battery container) using beta alumina, which is a solid electrolyte having Na ion conductivity, as a separator. It is a high-temperature operation type secondary battery having an isolated housing structure. The operating temperature is about 300° C., and electrochemical reaction of both active materials in a molten (liquid) state at the operating temperature generates an electromotive force in the single cell.
- NaS batteries are usually used in the form of module batteries in which a plurality of single cells (collective batteries) are interconnected and housed in a heat-insulating container to ensure desired capacity and output (see, for example, Patent Document 1 reference).
- a module battery a block is formed by connecting in parallel a plurality of circuits (strings) each having a plurality of cells connected in series, and the blocks are connected in series.
- the voltage (output) is obtained only from the remaining strings in which all cells are operating normally (no cells that have failed). is maintained.
- it is necessary to increase the magnitude of the current flowing through the cells forming the remaining strings. That is, as the number of strings with failed cells increases, the load on the cells that make up the remaining strings increases. For example, in a module battery with 12 strings in parallel, if 2 strings have a cell failure, the overload ratio at the cells in the remaining strings is 12/(12-10) 1.09 times. becomes.
- each string is equipped with a fuse so that the electric current does not exceed a preset limit value (eg 200A).
- the inventors of the present invention have found that it is necessary to further increase redundancy against failure of a cell, in other words, to reduce the number of cells that become unused due to a failure of a certain cell as much as possible, and The present inventors have found that suppressing an increase in the current flowing through a single cell is effective in increasing the output of a module battery, and have arrived at the present invention.
- the present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide a storage battery set and a storage battery system that are excellent in redundancy against failure of single cells.
- a first aspect of the present invention is a storage battery set comprising at least one string in which a large number of single cells each being a high temperature operation type secondary battery are connected in series,
- the plurality of unit cells constituting the at least one string are divided into a plurality of cell groups, a main path in which the plurality of cell groups are connected in series, and a main path connecting each of the plurality of cell groups to the at least one cell group.
- a bypass path that can be bypassed individually within one string, and when at least one of the plurality of unit cells fails, the energization path is changed from the main path to the cell group to which the failed unit cell belongs. It is characterized by being bypassed by a bypass route.
- a second aspect of the present invention is the storage battery set according to the first aspect, wherein among the plurality of cell groups, between the cell groups connected in series with each other on the main path and between the cell groups A bridge path connecting between the upstream and downstream sides of the group and the bypass path is provided with a switch capable of switching ON/OFF of the energized state, and when at least one of the plurality of cells fails, is characterized in that the energization path is bypassed from the main path to the bypass path by switching the ON/OFF state of the switch corresponding to the cell group to which the failed unit cell belongs.
- a third aspect of the present invention is the storage battery set according to the second aspect, characterized in that the switch is a gate switch made of a semiconductor element.
- a fourth aspect of the present invention is the storage battery set according to the third aspect, wherein in the plurality of cell groups, one module battery is formed for each two cell groups connected in series.
- the bypass path is provided for each module battery, and the module battery serves as the gate switch to provide an inter-group gate provided between the two cell groups in the main path, and the A module end gate provided between the downstream side of two cell groups and another module battery connected to the module battery, upstream and downstream sides of each of the two cell groups in the main path, and the module battery four bridge gates connecting between the provided bypass paths, and a terminating bridge gate connecting the most downstream side of the main path and the bypass path provided in the module battery.
- a fifth aspect of the present invention is the storage battery set according to the fourth aspect, wherein the module batteries are respectively accommodated in one container, and the container includes a heater and a cooling fan.
- the unit cells belonging to the two cell groups are arranged for each cell group and housed in two rows, and one side portion of the container perpendicular to the direction in which the unit cells are arranged. (2) is provided with a connecting portion including the inter-group gate, the module end gate, the four bridge gates, and the terminal bridge gate.
- a sixth aspect of the present invention is the storage battery set according to any one of the first to fifth aspects, characterized in that the plurality of cell groups are composed of eight cells. .
- a seventh aspect of the present invention is the storage battery set according to any one of the first to sixth aspects, wherein the at least one string is two strings, a first string and a second string. and when the energization path is bypassed in the first string, the energization paths of the same number of the cell groups in the second string as the number of the cell groups bypassed in the first string is bypassed.

- the first to ninth aspects of the present invention by bypassing at least one cell group including the cell group to which the single cell belongs, even when a single cell included in the module battery fails, It is possible to continue energizing the string including the unit cell. As a result, it is possible to realize a module battery with excellent redundancy against failure of a single battery and a rechargeable battery system including the module battery.
- the bypass provides an energization path. Since an increase in the number of gate switches can be suppressed, the effect of a voltage drop that accompanies an increase in the number of gate switches serving as current paths due to failure of the cells can be suppressed.
- switching of the ON/OFF state of each gate switch when a single cell fails is performed in units of module batteries, and other module batteries belonging to the same string are affected. do not do. Further, if the increase in the number of gate switches used is suppressed only in the module battery that is subject to ON/OFF switching control, the number of gate switches used in the entire string does not increase.
- the electromotive forces in the two strings remain the same value, so redundancy against cell failure is achieved. , is more preferably ensured.

- the section 31b performs bypass control for switching ON/OFF states of individual gate switches. Thereby, in the storage battery system 1, it is possible to bypass only the selected specific cell group 10 and energize the string ST.
- the storage battery system 1 when a certain cell 5 belonging to a string ST formed by connecting a large number of cells 5 in series while being divided into a plurality of cell groups 10 fails. In this case, bypassing is performed for each cell group 10 including the unit cell 5 . In other words, the cell group 10 that belongs to the same string ST but does not include the failed cell 5 remains in use even after such failure occurs.
- FIG. 3 is a diagram showing an energization mode in the string ST when there is no failure of the unit cells. Specifically, FIG. 3 shows the circuit configuration of part of the string ST that is the same as that of FIG. 2, and also shows the ON/OFF states of the respective gate switches and the conduction paths realized thereby. ing.
- the bypass control unit 31b turns on all inter-group gates G1 and module end gates G3 provided in the string ST, and all bridge gates G2 (G2a, G2b, G2c, G2d, and G2e) are turned off.
- G2a, G2b, G2c, G2d, and G2e are turned off.
- the two strings ST1 and ST2 to which the 2mn unit cells 5 are directly connected are connected in parallel. Power is obtained.
- FIG. 4 is a diagram showing an example of an energization mode in a string ST when one unit cell 5 fails in a certain string ST.
- FIG. 4 shows, for both strings ST1 and ST2, similar to FIG. 1 shows the state of connection in the vicinity of the cells 5 housed in the housing container 11 constituting the .
- the bypass control unit 31b closes the inter-group gate G1 and the module end gate G3 provided on the main path La of the module battery 4(k) to which the failed cell 5x(1) belongs.
- a bridge gate G2b provided in a bridge path Lcb connected to the upstream side of the inter-group gate G1 and a bridge path Lce connected to the most downstream side of the module battery 4(k) while switching from the ON state to the OFF state. is switched from the OFF state to the ON state.
- the main path La is the energization path, as indicated by arrows AR25 and AR26, in the same way as when there is no failure in the cell 5. maintained.
- the cell group 10 including the cell 5 is bypassed, in principle, by turning the first inter-group gate G1 from the ON state to the OFF state. state, and by switching from the OFF state to the ON state each of the bridge gates G2 located upstream and downstream of the cell group 10 that can realize the intended bypass, Realized.
- the failed unit cell 5x (1 ) can be bypassed.
- the bypass increases the number of gate switches forming the conduction path by one.
- the module end gate G3 is also switched from the ON state to the OFF state, and the cell to which the failed cell 5x(1) belongs is switched.
- the terminal bridge gate G2e as the gate switch used for bypassing on the downstream side of the group 10
- the number of gate switches to be used is kept unchanged before and after the bypass is executed. This prevents an increase in resistance loss due to bypassing.
- the bypass The control unit 31b switches the inter-group gate G1 provided in the storage container 11(k) of the string ST1 from the ON state to the OFF state, and also switches the bridge path connected to the upstream side of the cell group 10 to which the failed cell 5 belongs.
- the bridge gate G2a provided in Lca and the bridge gate G2c provided in the bridge path Lcc connected downstream of the inter-group gate G1 are switched from the OFF state to the ON state.
- the maximum electromotive force in the string ST1 will decrease by mV0 from the value of 2mnV0 when there is no failed cell 5.
- the maximum electromotive force in the string ST2 remains at a value of 2mnV0. , out of balance. Therefore, in the storage battery system 1 according to the present embodiment, when the maximum electromotive force in the string ST is reduced due to the failure of the cell 5 belonging to the cell group 10 in one of the two strings ST, The string ST to which the failed cell does not belong is intentionally made to have the same electromotive force drop.
- the ON/OFF state of the gate switch is switched so that the current does not flow to any of the cell groups 10, and the bypass of the current path similar to the string ST to which the failed cell 5 belongs is removed.
- the string ST to which the unit cell 5 does not belong is also subjected to this.
- such a bypass is performed in the module battery 4(k+1) of the string ST2 to which the failed cell 5x(1) does not belong. More specifically, the inter-group gate G1 and the module end gate G3 belonging to the module battery 4(k+1) are switched from the ON state to the OFF state, and the bridge route is connected upstream of the inter-group gate G1.
- the bridge gate G2b provided in Lcb and the terminating bridge gate G2e provided in the bridge path Lce are switched from the OFF state to the ON state.
- the main path La is maintained as the energization path, for example, as indicated by arrows AR31 and AR32.
- Selection of the cell group 10 to be bypassed in the string ST to which the failed cell 5 does not belong is basically arbitrary. Therefore, the selection of the cell group 10 belonging to the module battery 4(k+1) of the string ST2 as the bypass target in FIG. 4 is merely an example. may be selected for bypass. In that case as well, the cell group 10 and the inter-group gate G1 included in the same container 11 are bypassed by the two bridge paths and the bypass path Lb.
- unit battery 5 may be preferentially selected as a bypass target.
- the storage battery set 2 continues to be used as a battery with a maximum electromotive force of (2n-1) mV0.
- the storage battery set 2 remains unchanged and continues to be used as batteries with a maximum electromotive force of (2n-1)mV0.
- the two cell groups 10 of the module batteries 4 to which the two single cells 5 belong are collectively bypassed.
- two cell groups 10 are arbitrarily selected from the entire string ST and bypassed. In this case, the bypassed cell group 10 may continue to be bypassed when only one unit cell 5 has failed, or two cell groups 10 may be newly selected. may be bypassed.
- FIG. 5 is a diagram showing an example of an energization mode in a string ST when two cells 5 housed in the same housing container 11 of a certain string ST fail, to illustrate the case (ii). is.
- the unit cell 5x(1) belonging to one cell group 10 included in the module battery 4(k) with the string ST1 fails first.
- the single cell 5 x (2) belonging to the other cell group 10 accommodated in the same storage container 11 newly fails (the second failure occurs). ), the two cell groups 10 are bypassed.
- the bypass control unit 31b changes the cell group 10 to which the failed cell 5x(2) belongs.
- the bridge gate G2a provided in the bridge path Lca connected to the upstream side of the bridge path is switched from the OFF state to the ON state.
- the bridge gate G2b provided in Lcb is again switched from the ON state to the OFF state.
- the ON/OFF state of the gate switch in the module battery 4(k+1) of the string ST2 is the same as that of the gate switch in the module battery 4(k) of the string ST1 to which the failed cell 5 belongs. It becomes the same as the ON/OFF state. Therefore, as long as the above-described switching is performed, both of the two cell groups 10 included in the container 11 constituting the module battery 4(k+1) are bypassed in the current path of the string ST2.
- the second failed unit cell 5 belongs to the same cell group 10 as the first failed unit cell 5. . This is because in any cell group 10 included in the storage battery set 2, if a certain cell 5 fails, the cell group 10 is bypassed and is not energized thereafter. This is because no failure can occur.
- the gate switch is basically turned ON when one or two cells 5 fail. This can be dealt with by switching the /OFF state to the gate switch provided in the storage container 11 in which the cell group 10 to which the newly failed unit cell 5 belongs is stored.
- the overload ratio of the remaining cells 5 increases and approaches the limit value of the flowing current. Therefore, the number of failed cells 5 allowed in the storage battery set 2 is predetermined according to the overload ratio and current limit value.
- the gate switches to be switched between the ON state and the OFF state are switched each time a failure of the unit cell 5 occurs. selected.
- the unit cells 5 are divided into cell groups 10 and connected in series to the module batteries 4 of each of the two strings ST (ST1, ST2) that constitute the storage battery set 2.
- a bypass route Lb is provided, and gate switches (group Intermediate gate G1, bridge gates G2a, G2b, G2c, G2d, G2e, and module end gate G3) are provided.
- each string ST is energized using only the main path La.
- the cell group 10 including the single battery 5 is bypassed by the bypass route Lb, and the failed single battery 5 is provided.
- a similar bypass is also applied to the strings ST that are not connected to each other, so that the electromotive forces of the two strings ST are made uniform.
- n is less than 10 (e.g., 8) and n is about several tens (e.g., 35).
- n is constant, the smaller the value of m, the more gate switches are required.
- the electromotive force V0 of the single cell 5 is 2 V as a model case
- each string ST constituting the storage battery set 2 is provided with three types of gate switches: an inter-group gate G1, a bridge gate G2, and a module end gate G3.
- an inter-group gate G1 When there is no failure of the single cell 5, only two of the inter-group gate G1 and the module end gate G3 are kept ON in each container 11. Accordingly, the bypass control unit 31b switches the ON/OFF state of each gate switch.
- the main path La and the bypass path Lb are connected 4 on the upstream side and the downstream side of each cell group 10. It is sufficient to have bridge gates G2a, G2b, G2c and G2d provided in one bridge path Lca, Lcb, Lcc and Lcd. That is, the inter-group gate G1, the module end gate G3, and the bridge path Lce and the terminating bridge gate G2e provided thereon may or additionally bypass the bridge gates G2a and G2b except between the bridge gates G2a and G2b and between the bridge gates G2c and G2d. Path Lb can be omitted.
- the storage battery set 2 purposely provides them because, as described above, the resistance loss associated with the increase in the number of gate switches constituting the conduction path due to the bypass. This is for suppressing an increase in the As the number of gate switches included in the conduction path increases, the resulting voltage drop in the string ST increases.
- the number of gate switches serving as current paths during bypassing is minimized.
- the influence of the voltage drop associated with the increase in is suitably suppressed.
- the storage battery set 2 is configured by connecting in parallel two strings ST (ST1, ST2) having the same configuration, and in one string ST If one or a plurality of cell groups 10 including the single cell 5 is bypassed due to a failure of the single cell 5, the same number of cell groups 10 are connected to the other string ST. I am trying to bypass it.
- the maximum electromotive force in each string ST has the same value (specifically, the electromotive force V0 of the single cell x the number m of the single cells 5 belonging to one cell group 10 x the cell to which the failed single battery 5 belongs). number of groups 10). Therefore, even if there is a failure of the cell 5 in any string ST, the electromotive forces in the two strings ST remain the same. This also contributes to ensuring redundancy against failure of the unit cells.

Abstract
