Definitions
- the present patent application for industrial invention relates to an improved skewer-rotating device.
- the field of reference is the one of underground-air cooking with barbecues or grills for skewers.
- skewer indicates a wooden stick or a metal rod used to pierce pieces of meat, fish, vegetables or other foods.
- a skewer comprises a first end section, a second end section and a central section where the food is arranged and skewered.
- the grills for skewers that are known on the market comprise:
- the receptacle has a rectangular shape and comprises two longitudinal sides, two transverse sides and a bottom wall where the coal is disposed.
- the skewers are arranged side by side across the two sides, with the end sections resting on the end edges of the longitudinal sides.
- the meat or food that is disposed over the compartment is invested by the heat emitted by the coal and is therefore cooked.
- the user In order for the meat or food to be cooked properly, the user needs to continuously rotate the skewers so that the meat or food is cooked on all sides.
- skewer-rotating devices have been invented to automatically and simultaneously support and rotate the skewers over the receptacle, thus cooking the meat or food slowly and homogeneously.
- Said skewer-rotating devices comprise an elongated box frame mounted in correspondence with a longitudinal side of the receptacle from which pins protrude, being revolvingly inserted in holes of the frame.
- Each pin comprises an axial cavity wherein one of the two end sections of the skewer is inserted.
- a toothed body such as a pinion or a gear, is integrally mounted on each pin.
- the device according to the prior art further comprises an electric motor and transmission means to transfer the motion of the electric motor to the toothed bodies.
- said transmission means consist of a linear chain transmission or of a rack and pinion driven by an actuator and meshing with the teeth of the toothed bodies.
- One of the problems encountered with such devices refers to the fact that the number of pins, and therefore the number of skewers that can be cooked at the same time, is directly proportional to the length of the box structure and therefore to the longitudinal dimension of the skewer-rotating device.
- said skewer-rotating devices are not suitable for being used in combination with traditional barbecues comprising a kettle for the coal and a lid that are substantially shaped like two opposing segments of a sphere.
- the lid can be moved between a closed position, wherein the lid and the kettle are coupled together and define a closed cooking chamber, and an open position, wherein the lid and the kettle are detached from each other.
- the lid can be hinged to the kettle or it can be completely removable.
- cooking is a closed chamber allows for controlling the oxygen flow rate inside the chamber, for adjusting the internal temperature, and for obtaining a more tender and more uniform cooking of the meat or the food in general, compared to cooking in open chamber.
- a traditional barbecue also comprises a supporting frame that supports the lower kettle.
- the supporting frame may comprise legs that rest on the ground or a cart that allows for moving the barbecue easily. It is evident that in order to fit a device inside the kettle, the longitudinal length of the skewer-rotating device must be smaller than the diameter of the kettle.
- the purpose of the present invention is to devise a skewer-rotating device that, with the same longitudinal dimension, can support a larger number of skewers than the skewer-rotating devices of the prior art.
- a further purpose of the present invention is to devise a skewer-rotating device that can be inserted into and used inside a traditional barbecue.
- a final purpose of the present invention is to devise a skewer-rotating device that is easy and inexpensive to make.
- the skewer-rotating device according to the invention is defined by claim

- the skewer-rotating device (A) comprises a toothed body (3) that is integrally connected to the internal section of the pin (2) and comprises a plurality of radial teeth (30).
- the toothed body (3) comprises a hollow cylinder (31) wherein the internal section (2i) of the pin (2) is coupled by means of interference or shape coupling.
- Said radial teeth (30) protrude from the outer surface of the hollow cylinder (31) and lie on a plane orthogonal to an axis (X2) of the pin (2).
- the skewer-rotating device (A) comprises an electric motor (M) and transmission means (4) disposed inside the box structure (1) and configured to transmit the motion of the electric motor (M) to the pins (2), interfering with the radial teeth (30) of each toothed body (3).

- the transmission means (4) comprise a helical spring (40) that comprises a plurality of turns.
- the helical spring (40) is connected to the electric motor (M) in such a way to rotate so that the turns of the helical spring (40) interfere with the radial teeth (30) of the toothed bodies (3), driving the toothed bodies (3) into rotation.
- the box structure (1) extends over a trajectory shaped like an arc of circumference with amplitude comprised between 160° and 200°, preferably 180°.

- the electric motor (M) is arranged in correspondence with one of the two end walls (13) of the box structure (1), and is housed inside a small box (T) preferably made of a material that allows the motor (M) to be thermally insulated from the outside.
- said small box (T) is made of stainless steel.
- the small box (T) is shown only in Fig. 1 , whereas the other figures schematically illustrate the electric motor (M) not covered by the box (T).
- the pins (2) protrudes from the convex longitudinal wall (12) of the box structure (1).
- the pins (2) are arranged substantially in a radial pattern around the box structure (1).
- the skewer-rotating device (A) also comprises a receptacle (5) that extends along an arc of circumference whose width is equal to the width of the arc of circumference where the box structure (1) extends.
- the receptacle (5) comprises a convex side (52), two end sides (53), a bottom (50), and a concave side (51) parallel to the convex edge (22) and joined to the convex longitudinal wall (12) of the box structure (1).
- the concave side (51), the convex side (52), the two end sides (53) and the bottom (50) define a compartment (V).
- a heat source is suitable for being positioned inside the compartment (V), preferably consisting of hot coal or charcoal.
- each skewer (S) is positioned above the compartment (V) so that the food (C) is directly invested by the heat emitted by the aforesaid heat source and is cooked.
- the second end section (S2) of the skewer (S) is designed to protrude externally with respect to the convex side (52), so that when the food (C) is cooked, a user can grab the second end section (S2) and pull the skewer (S) away without having to reach with his hand above the compartment (V).
- the bottom (50) of the receptacle (5) comprises a metal grill (50a) for holding the coal.
- the longitudinal walls (11 , 12) of the box structure (1), and the concave and convex edges (21 , 22) of the receptacle preferably consist of sheet steel, advantageously stainless steel, bent by means of suitable bending processes, such as calendering processes.

- a user can stand in the internal space defined by the skewer-rotating device (A) and easily control all the skewers (S) during cooking. Moreover, if the concave side (51) of the receptacle (5) extends for an arc of circumference having a smaller diameter than the opening of the user's arms, it is easy to understand that the user can easily grip and pull out all the skewers (S) while standing in the center of the skewer-rotating device (A).
- the skewer-rotating device (A) can have a greater number of pins (2) and therefore can support a greater number of skewers at the same time.
