Definitions
- the invention relates to an expandable respirator against breathable airborne epi- and pandemic diseases, which can be worn by healthy and sick users and which protects both the wearer from infectious contamination and the environment from the possibly infectious wearer.
- scenario 3 Sick user suffering from the pandemic disease: As in scenario 2, the breathing mask is bypassed during the sneezing process and an infectious cloud of secretion is also released.
- the present invention enables carriers and passers-by to be protected against infection for all three of the above scenarios and at the same time opens up a simple and cost-effective way of interrupting chains of infection and thus stopping or preventing pandemics.
- Usual respiratory half masks are worn over the mouth and nose. They consist of a flexible face part to which a replaceable filter cartridge is flanged.
- the face piece consists of a flexible, soft rubber material that rests on the face by means of sealing lips along a closed sealing line. With straps that are pulled over the head, the mask is gently pressed against the face and thus lies tightly on it.
- Conventional particle-filtering masks consist of a hemispherical filter fleece, which is also worn with straps over the mouth and nose and which is shaped in such a way that a sealing line is created.
- the invention relates to an expandable breathing mask which consists of four functional components (see FIG. 1):
- Components 2 the cough and sneeze modulator [2] and 3, the secretion and sputum absorber [9] and their arrangement together with the other two components to form an expandable breathing mask are particularly innovative.
- the face part [1] of the mask according to the invention is worn as usual over the mouth and nose and is designed similar to that of a respiratory half mask described above, preferably with rubber-like sealing lips.
- the face part is fixed over the head by means of a holding strap.
- it In contrast to conventional respiratory half masks, however, it has a flange with a relatively large diameter, preferably directly in front of the mouth and nose.
- An innovative core of the invention is the sneeze-and-cough modulator [2], which is arranged between the sealing face part and the (particle) filter.
- the stationary side it is attached to the flange of the face piece; on the other, expandable side, a (particle) filter is attached.
- the sneeze-and-cough modulator itself consists of an expandable hollow body, which can assume two target states with corresponding transitions: the resting state and the expanded state. In the resting state it comprises the rest volume, in the expanded state it comprises the expanded volume which, in relation to the resting volume, has a factor of at least 0.5 and preferably 2 and higher. During normal inhalation and exhalation, the sneeze-and-cough modulator is in a state of rest and allows the breath air to flow from the mouth and nose to the (particle) filter.
- the breathing air passes into the environment and is filtered at the same time.
- Virus-containing contaminants droplets, particles, secretions
- corresponding virus-containing contaminants are retained in the exhaled air of an infected carrier, whereby the environment is protected from the infected carrier.
- the usufruct modulator changes to the expanded state. This process is triggered by the sudden increase in pressure, which is disproportionate in comparison to inhalation and exhalation, due to the sniffing or flowing process.
- the sneeze-and-fluff modulator thus removes a large part of the increased amount of breath air that suddenly escapes and thus prevents too high a flow rate at the (particle) filter or a brief detachment of the mask with side exit and entry of possibly contaminated air.
- After the sneezing or coughing event it retreats back into its original state of rest, with the volume of air conveyed during the sneezing or coughing process escaping via the air filter with a delay.
- the secretion and sputum absorber [9] is another innovative core of the invention. It is arranged in the interior of the sneeze-and-cough modulator and possibly the (particle) filter. It picks up the droplets, secretions, lumps of mucus or sputum conveyed during the sneezing and coughing process.
- It consists of loose, breathable fleece or sponge material and is preferably also designed to be expandable - in the manner of a handkerchief, which unfolds briefly during the sneezing or coughing process, absorbs the secretions and then moves back with the sneeze-and-cough. Folds the modulator back together. This is achieved in that one side of the secretion-and-sputum absorber is connected to the stationary end of the sneeze-and-cough modulator and the other side is connected to the expanding end. The same applies to a possible mustache process. A secretion that is sometimes secreted by the nose with colds during normal breathing (runny nose) is also absorbed by the secretion and sputum absorber.
- the secretion and sputum absorber can be equipped as a consumable part together with the (particle) filter, which is inserted and / or clicked into the sneeze and cough modulator. In this way, this combined consumption unit can be changed regularly when the intake capacity is exhausted. Furthermore, a pushed together film tube can be used up in a ring on the outside and connected to the consumption unit on one side, which is pulled over the consumption unit when it is removed, so that an infection-protected bag is in place, which can be closed and properly disposed of.
- the invention thus provides reliable protection against infection even for sick carriers and at the same time prevents the creation of a viral load in the ambient air as a result of this. If the invention is consistently worn by all or a majority of passers-by, public and working life in the event of a wave of illness or a pandemic can go without a hitch disproportionate risks to life and limb are maintained. Chains of transmission can be effectively and easily interrupted and pandemics can be prevented or stopped (pandemic stopper). Preferred variants of the invention
- Fig. 1 shows a preferred variant of the invention in the resting state and Fig. 2 shows this in the expanded state during a sneezing or coughing process.
- the expandable respirator consists of the flexible face part [2], which on the one hand takes over the seal to the face and on the other hand has a flange to accommodate the sneeze and fluff modulator [5]
- Towards the face the face part has flexible sealing lips made of rubber or another elastomeric material which, depending on the contour of the face, create a closed sealing line.
- This adhesive tape can also be made on both sides so that the sealing line of the mask can be re-equipped with the adhesive tape after use.
- the flange [5] to the usufruct modulator [1] can preferably be designed as a screw or bayonet lock.
- the sneeze-and-cough modulator can be put on easily and exchanged as often as you like.
- This preferably consists of a basket of 3-4 small telescopic rods [21], which are attached to a ring on the flange side [5] and can be extended during the nibbling process, preferably to 2-4 times the length. At the other end they wear a ring [22], making a basket results. A bellows [7] is attached to the outside of the two rings of the telescopic basket. Finally, the (particle) filter [3] is placed on the movable ring. As a result, the sneeze-and-fluff modulator results in a closed space that is delimited on one side by the wearer's face and face part and on the other side by the (particle) filter.
- the telescopic rods are extended due to the sudden increase in pressure and the result is a preferably 2-4 times the volume.
- the telescopic rods extend against a return device, e.g. a rubber band, spring balancer, or a slight vacuum within the rods. They are drawn in again by the retrieval device immediately after the end of the usufruct or fluff process, whereby the air temporarily buffered in this way can escape within the pressure specifications of the (particle) filter and is filtered.
- the bellows of the sneeze-and-cough modulator can be designed in a preferred variant in the form of a disk bellows as an airtight flexible material (FIG. 11 [7]).
- the bellows is very compact in the rest position and has a large extension range.
- the bellows can also be made of rubber-like, elastomeric material in a wave shape.
- This embodiment has the advantage that the bellows itself can form the shape of the sneeze-and-cough modulator and also has the return force that is required to return to the resting state after a sneeze or cough process. So can in this Execution on the small telescopic rods can be dispensed with. In this case, the bellows, together with the two rings, form the telescopic basket.
- a telescopic cylinder as is known from camera lenses, can also be used.
- the sneeze-and-cough modulator can also be made of particle-filtering material (FIG. 12 [38]). In this version, it expands the filtration area and thus enables lower breathing resistance.
- the (particle) filter [3] can preferably be designed hemispherical.
- the filter-active hemispherical surface preferably consists of a filtering fleece material. This closes on a ring which is screwed or clicked onto the sneeze-and-cough modulator.
- the filter-active material can be held by an internal hemispherical basket, which also closes on the ring.
- the secretion and sputum absorber [9] which is located in the interior of the (particle) filter and the sneeze-and-cough modulator, is preferably attached to this hemispherical basket.
- the secretion and sputum absorber has the task of absorbing and fixing the secretion and mucus material conveyed during the sneezing or coughing process.
- it can be made of suitable absorbent materials such as coarse fleece or sponge material, and it can also be made virucidal or bactericidal.
- a preferred arrangement provides for the unfolding in the rear area [11] located in the sneeze and cough modulator.
- Preferred folding variants are the disc bellows [11] or lip-shaped folds [31] with an upper and a lower lip, which are adapted to the circular cross-section of the eat-and-drink modulator.
- the opening of the successive slices of the folds of the disc bellows can enlarge towards the face part, so that a cascaded secretion absorption surface is formed.
- the foremost disc of the secretion and sputum absorber is carried out on the fleas of the telescopic rods with a receptacle [23], which is pushed onto the telescopic rods at the top and bottom.
- the telescopic rods in turn have a suitable notch or lock on the flange ring [24].
- the absorber can be pushed in and the locks click into place in the target position and fix the foremost fold [13], so that the sniff and Fluff modulator sets the desired accordion effect of the secretion and sputum absorber.
- the (particle) filter and secretion and sputum absorber is preferably manufactured as a unit which can easily be removed and exchanged. These units can then be offered as inexpensive consumables in suitable sales packs, which can cover personal needs during a pandemic wave (see Figures 13 and 15).
- a possible addition is, for example, the motorized support of the expansion for wearers with impaired breathing or the attachment of handles for manual return.
- a possible further integration is, for example, the integration of the sneeze and cough modulator with the (particle) filter, for example by gluing or coating a (particle) filter layer on the absorber.
- the secretion and sputum absorber can also be omitted in simple designs.
- the design of the sneeze-and-cough modulator as an elastic balloon tube, which instead of the bellows is attached to a then rigid cylinder.
- a balloon could also be flanged to the side of a rigid cylinder or ring located between the face part and the particle filter, whereby the face part and the balloon device can also be integrated or both can form a unit with the filter.
- the (particle) filter could also be designed in the form of two connected, nested, bag-shaped folds, the smaller inner fold being turned inside the outer, outer fold. When sneezing or coughing, the outer fold expands and the inner fold turns out. This arrangement, which is turned inside out again by hand, could also function as an integrated sneeze-and-cough modulator.
- a spherical basket for example, could also be attached to the face part, above which there is a flexible spherical balloon, which consists, for example, of filter and elastic spherical segments alternating (longitudinally or medially). Inside the basket there can be a fold-out secretion and sputum absorber, which is connected to the outer balloon, for example with a string, and is thus unfolded when it expands.
