본 발명은 배터리 팩에 관한 것으로서, 보다 구체적으로는 발열부품 또는 방열부품을 배터리 팩에 부착하여 배터리 팩의 온도를 일정범위 내로 유지하는 배터리 팩에 관한 것이다.
Description
본 발명은 배터리 팩에 관한 것으로서, 보다 구체적으로는 발열부품 또는 방열부품을 배터리 팩에 부착하여 배터리 팩의 온도를 일정범위 내로 유지하는 배터리 팩에 관한 것이다.
일반적인 배터리 팩은 충/방전이 가능한 이차전지로 구성되어 있다.
이러한 이차전지는 전기 화학적 반응에 의하여 충/방전이 이루어지므로 배터리 팩은 주변 온도 조건 환경에 영향을 받게 된다. 만약 극저온상태에서 충/방전이 진행되게 되면 배터리 팩의 내부 화학반응이 느려져 배터리의 수명이나 안정성, 구동 성능이 저하되는 문제가 발생된다.
따라서, 전기 자동차와 같은 기기에서는 극 저온(-30℃) 같은 환경에서도 안정적인 사용이 가능한 납 축전지를 배터리로 사용해왔었다. 그러나 이러한 납 축전지는 충/방전을 수행함에 따라 점차 저장 성능이 저하되고 자가방전율(최대 6개월 사용)도 커서 배터리의 수명이 짧았다. 또한, 납 축전지는 무게(12kg)도 많이 나가 전기 자동차의 연비를 감소시키는 단점이 있었다.
이에 비해 Li-ion 배터리 팩은 자가방전율이 낮아 배터리 수명이 길고(최대 3년 사용) 무게(3kg)도 적게 나가는 장점이 있다. 그러나 앞서 설명한 것과 같이, Li-ion 배터리 팩은 극 저온(-30℃) 환경에서는 구동 성능이 저하되는 단점이 있기에 납 축전지 대신하여 Li-ion 전지를 사용하기 위해서는 이와 같은 극저온에서의 구동 성능 저하 문제를 해결하여야 한다.
또한, Li-ion 배터리 팩을 장시간 사용하는 경우, 배터리 팩에서는 열이 발생하게 되는데, 특히 대용량의 배터리 팩은 충전 또는 방전 시 전류량의 증가에 따라 더 많은 열을 수반하게 된다. 만약 이때 발생한 열이 충분히 제거되지 않으면 배터리 팩의 성능이 저하되거나, 나아가 발화 또는 폭발에 이르기도 한다. 따라서 고온상태에서 배터리 팩의 성능을 유지 및 향상시키기 위해서는 배터리 팩의 내부 온도를 감소시키는 방안이 필요하다.
이러한 배터리 팩의 내부 온도 상승 또는 내부 온도 저하 문제를 해결하기 위하여 종래에는 Li-ion 배터리 팩 내의 원형 셀 측면에 발열부품 또는 방열부품을 부착하여 배터리 팩의 내부 온도를 증가시키거나 감소시켜 왔다.
아래 도 1과 도 2를 들어 종래의 발열/방열부품이 측면 부착된 원형 셀에 대하여 자세히 살펴보도록 한다.

도 1을 참고하면, 원형 셀의 구조는 양극기재, 음극 기재 및 분리막이 롤(Roll)형태로 캔에 삽입되어 형성되어 있다. 이와 같은 원형 셀 구조에서 종래의 원형 셀 측면에 발열부품을 부착하여 열을 가하는 경우, 가해진 열이 양극기재, 음극기재 및 분리막을 거쳐서 전달되기 때문에 내부온도 상승 시간이 오래 걸리는 문제가 발생한다.
또한, 도 2를 참고하면 발열부품 또는 방열부품은 원형 셀 측면에 지그재그 형태로 부착되는데, 이러한 형태는 발열/방열부품들 사이의 반발력으로 인하여 조립하는 것이 어려워지고 다수의 원형 셀을 구성하는데 문제가 발생한다.
따라서, 고온 또는 극저온 상태에서 배터리 팩의 구동 성능을 유지시키기 위하여 내부온도를 조절하는 발열 또는 방열 부품의 측면부착 외에 다른 부착형태의 개발이 요구된다.

상기 발열부품은 상기 제1금속패널과 상단부 커버 사이에 부착되거나 또는, 상기 홀더와 하단부 커버 사이에 부착되거나, 또는 제1금속패널과 상단부 커버 사이 및 상기 홀더와 하단부 커버 사이 양쪽에 모두 부착된다.
상기 제1금속패널 및 제2금속패널은 높은 열전도성을 가진다.
상기 발열부품은 발열 패드, 열선, 액체 히터 또는 금속 히터를 사용한다.
본 발명의 제2 실시 예에 따른 배터리 팩은 복수개의 원형 셀에서 발생되는 열을 흡수하는 방열부품을 포함하여 구성된 배터리 팩에 있어서, 상기 복수개의 원형 셀의 상부에 구성되어 배터리 팩의 내부를 보호하는 상단부 커버, 상기 상단부 커버의 하부에 위치하며, 상기 복수개의 원형 셀 상부에 접합되어 있는 제1금속패널, 상기 복수개의 원형 셀 하부에 접합되어 있는 제2금속패널, 상기 복수개의 원형 셀 전체의 외곽측면 및 제2 금속패널의 하부를 감싸 고정시키는 홀더 및 상기 제2 금속패널 및 상기 홀더의 하부에 위치하여 배터리 팩 하단부를 형성하는 하단부 커버를 포함한다.

본 발명에 의하면, 배터리 팩은 발열 또는 방열 부품을 원형 셀 상하부에 부착하여 종래보다 배터리 팩 내의 열이 빠르게 전달되고 다수의 원형 셀로 구성된 배터리 팩의 안정적인 조립이 가능함에 따라 배터리 팩의 안정적인 구동을 지속할 수 있으며 큰 용량의 배터리 팩을 용이하게 생산할 수 있다.

이하, 첨부된 도면들에 기재된 내용들을 참조하여 본 발명에 실시 예를 상세하게 설명한다. 다만, 본 발명이 실시 예들에 의해 제한되거나 한정되는 것은 아니다. 단지 실시 예들은 본 발명의 개시가 완전하도록 하며, 본 발명의 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자에게 발명의 범주를 완전하게 알려주기 위해 제공되는 것이다.

1. 본 발명의 제1 실시 예에 따른 배터리 팩
본 발명의 배터리 팩은 홀더로 고정되는 복수개의 원형 셀을 중심으로 하여 원형셀 상부 및 하부에 순서대로 금속패널, 발열/방열부품 및 커버로 구성되어 배터리 팩 내의 열이 빠르게 전달되고 다수의 원형 셀로 조립되어 큰 용량의 배터리 형성이 가능하도록 한다.
도 3은 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른 배터리 팩의 사시도이다.
도 3을 참조하면, 본 발명의 제1 실시 예에 따른 배터리 팩(100)은 복수개의 원형 셀(140)로 구성되어 내부 온도가 저온인 경우, 상기 원형 셀(140)에 열을 가하여 동작 적정온도를 유지함에 따라 배터리 팩의 성능이 유지될 수 있는 배터리 팩으로써, 상기 복수개의 원형 셀(140)의 상부에 구성되어 배터리 팩(100)의 외관을 형성하고 내부를 보호하는 상단부 커버(110), 배터리 팩(100)의 내부온도가 저온인 경우, 원형 셀(140)과 상단부 커버(110) 사이에 부착되어 원형 셀(140)에 열을 가하는 제1 발열부품(120), 상기 원형 셀(140) 상부에 부착되어 상기 제1 발열부품(120)과 전기적으로 연결되는 제1금속패널(130), 상기 원형 셀(140) 하부에 부착되고 상기 원형 셀(140)의 양극단자 및 음극단자와 스폿 용접 또는 레이저 용접으로 연결되는 제2금속패널(150), 상기 원형 셀(140)의 측면 및 제2금속패널(150)의 하부를 감싸 고정시키고 연쇄 발화를 방지하는 홀더(160), 배터리 팩의 내부온도가 저온인 경우, 상기 원형 셀(140)에 열을 가하여 내부의 온도를 유지시키며 상기 제2금속패널(150) 및 상기 홀더(160)의 하부에 부착된 제2 발열부품(170) 및 상기 제2 발열부품(170) 하부에 위치하여 배터리 팩 하단부를 형성하는 하단부 커버(180)를 포함하여 구성한다.
여기서 상기 제1금속패널(130) 및 제2금속패널(150)은 높은 열전도성을 가져 상기 제1 발열부품(120) 및 제2 발열부품(170)에서 발생된 열이 빠르게 상기 원형 셀(140)에 전달될 수 있도록 한다. 또한, 상기 제1 발열부품(120) 및 제2 발열부품(170)은 상기 제1금속패널(130)과 상단부 커버(110) 사이에 부착되거나 또는, 상기 홀더(160)와 하단부 커버(180) 사이에 부착되거나 또는, 상기 제1금속패널(130)과 상단부 커버(110) 사이 및 상기 홀더(160)와 하단부 커버(180) 사이 양쪽에 모두 부착될 수도 있다.
또한, 상기 원형 셀(140)에 용접된 상기 제1 금속패널(130)과 제2 금속패널(150)은 상기 제1 발열부품(120) 및 제2 발열부품(170)뿐만 아니라 배터리 팩의 구동을 제어하는 BMS(미도시)에도 전기적으로 연결된다. 이러한 BMS(미도시)는 내부의 온도를 측정하여 배터리 팩(100)의 온도가 기 설정된 기준 온도 이하인 경우, 상기 제1 발열부품(120) 및 제2 발열부품(170)이 구동되도록 제어한다. 일반적으로 Li-ion 배터리의 성능이 저하되는 온도는 -30℃이므로, 여기서 기 설정된 기준 온도는 일 실시 예로써 -10℃로 설정하여 안정적인 배터리 팩 구동이 가능하도록 한다.
또한, 상기 제1 발열부품(120) 및 제2 발열부품(170)은 발열 패드, 열선, 액체 히터 또는 금속 히터를 이용하여 상기 원형 셀(140) 상하부에 각각 부착하는 형태로 구성된다. 이와 같이 원형 셀(140) 상하부에 발열부품(120, 170)을 부착하는 이유는 도 2와 같은 지그재그 측면부착형태보다 발열부품 간의 반발력이 약하고 열 전달 효율이 높으며 부착방법이 간편하기 때문이다.
2. 본 발명의 제2 실시 예에 따른 배터리 팩
제2 실시 예로, 상기의 발열부품이 부착된 배터리 팩(100)과 달리 배터리 팩(100)에 방열부품을 부착하여 배터리 팩 내부 온도가 고온인 경우, 상기 원형 셀(140)의 열이 외부로 방출되어 동작 적정온도가 유지됨에 따라 배터리 팩의 성능이 유지될 수 있다.
이와 같이 배터리 팩(100)은 복수개의 원형 셀(140)의 상부에 위치하고 배터리 팩(100)의 외관을 형성하여 내부를 보호하는 상단부 커버(110), 배터리 팩(100)의 내부온도가 고온인 경우, 원형 셀(140)과 상단부 커버(110) 사이에 부착되어 원형 셀(140)의 열을 외부로 방출시키는 제1 방열부품(120), 상기 원형 셀(140) 상부에 부착되어 상기 제1방열부품(120)과 전기적으로 연결되는 제1금속패널(130), 상기 원형 셀(140) 하부에 부착되고 상기 원형 셀(140)의 양극단자 및 음극단자와 스폿 용접 또는 레이저 용접으로 연결되는 제2금속패널(150), 상기 원형 셀(140)의 측면 및 제2금속패널(150)의 하부를 감싸 고정시키고 연쇄 발화를 방지하는 홀더(160), 배터리 팩의 내부온도가 고온인 경우, 상기 원형 셀(140)의 열을 방출시켜 내부 온도를 유지하며 상기 제2금속패널(150) 및 상기 홀더(160)의 하부에 부착된 제2방열부품(170), 상기 제2방열부품(170) 하부에 위치하여 배터리 팩 하단부를 형성하는 하단부 커버(180)를 포함하여 배터리 팩(100)을 구성한다.
여기서 상기 제1금속패널(130) 및 제2금속패널은(150) 높은 열전도성을 가져 상기 제1 방열부품(120) 및 제2 방열부품(170)에 상기 원형 셀(140)에서 발생된 열을 빠르게 전달할 수 있도록 한다.
또한, 제1방열부품(120) 및 제2방열부품(170)은 상기 제1금속패널(130)과 상단부 커버(110) 사이에 부착되거나 또는, 상기 홀더(160)과 하단부 커버(180) 사이에 부착되거나 또는, 상기 제1금속패널(130)과 상단부 커버(110) 사이 및 상기 홀더(160)과 하단부 커버(180) 사이 양쪽에 모두 부착될 수도 있다.
또한, 상기 원형 셀(140)에 용접된 상기 제1 금속패널(130)과 제2 금속패널(170)은 상기 제1방열부품(120) 및 제2 방열부품(150)뿐만 아니라 배터리 팩의 구동을 제어하는 BMS(미도시)에도 전기적으로 연결된다. 이러한 BMS(미도시)는 내부의 온도를 측정하여 배터리 팩(100)의 온도가 기 설정된 기준 온도 이상인 경우, 상기 제1 방열부품(120) 및 제2 방열부품(150)이 구동되도록 제어한다. 일반적으로 Li-ion 배터리의 성능이 저하되는 온도는 30℃이므로, 여기서 기 설정된 기준 온도는 일 실시 예로써 20℃로 설정하여 안정적인 배터리 팩 구동이 가능하도록 한다.
또한, 상기 제1방열부품(120) 및 제2 방열부품(150)은 방열 패드, 방열선, 액체 쿨러 또는 금속 쿨러의 형태로 이루어져 상기 원형 셀(140) 상하부에 각각 부착하는 형태로 구성된다. 이와 같이 원형 셀(140) 상하부에 방열부품(120, 150)을 부착하는 이유는 도 2와 같은 지그재그 측면부착형태보다 방열부품 간의 반발력이 약하고 열 전달 효율이 높으며 부착방법이 간편하기 때문이다.
3. 본 발명의 제3 실시 예에 따른 배터리 팩
제3 실시 예로, 상기의 발열 및 방열부품이 각각 부착된 배터리 팩(100)과 달리 배터리 팩(100)에 발열부품과 방열부품을 동시에 부착하여 배터리 팩 내부 온도가 기 설정된 기준범위를 벗어나는 경우, 상기 원형 셀(140)에 열을 가하거나 외부로 방출시켜 온도를 유지함에 따라 배터리 팩의 성능을 유지시킬 수 있다.
이와 같이 배터리 팩(100)은 복수개의 원형 셀(140)의 상부에 위치해 있으며 배터리 팩(100)의 외관을 형성하고 내부를 보호하는 상단부 커버(110), 배터리 팩(100)의 내부온도가 고온인 경우, 원형 셀(140)과 상단부 커버(110) 사이에 부착되어 원형 셀(140)의 열을 외부로 방출시키는 방열부품(120), 상기 원형 셀(140) 상부에 부착되어 상기 방열부품(120)과 전기적으로 연결되는 제1금속패널(130), 상기 원형 셀(140) 하부에 부착되고 상기 원형 셀(140)의 양극단자 및 음극단자와 스폿 용접 또는 레이저 용접으로 연결되는 제2금속패널(150), 상기 원형 셀(140)의 측면 및 제2금속패널(150)의 하부를 감싸 고정시키고 연쇄 발화를 방지하는 홀더(160), 배터리 팩의 내부온도가 저온인 경우, 상기 원형 셀(140)에 열을 가하여 내부 온도를 유지하며 상기 제2금속패널(150) 및 상기 홀더(160)의 하부에 부착된 발열부품(170), 상기 발열부품(170) 하부에 위치하여 배터리 팩 하단부를 형성하는 하단부 커버(180)를 포함하여 배터리 팩(100)을 구성한다.
여기서 상기 제1금속패널(130) 및 제2금속패널은(150) 높은 열전도성을 가져 상기 원형 셀(140)에서 발생된 열과 상기 발열부품(170)에서 발생한 열을 빠르게 전달할 수 있도록 한다.
또한, 상기 방열부품(120)은 상기 제1금속패널(130)과 상단부 커버(110) 사이에 부착될 수 있으며 상기 발열부품(170)은 상기 홀더(160)와 하단부 커버(180) 사이에 부착되거나 또는, 상기 발열부품(120)이 상기 제1금속패널(130)과 상단부 커버(110) 사이에 부착되고 상기 방열부품(120)이 홀더(160)와 하단부(180) 커버 사이에 부착될 수 있다.
또한, 상기 원형 셀(140)에 용접된 상기 제1 금속패널(130)과 제2 금속패널(170)은 상기 방열부품(120) 및 발열부품(150)뿐만 아니라 배터리 팩의 구동을 제어하는 BMS(미도시)에도 전기적으로 연결된다. 이러한 BMS(미도시)는 내부의 온도를 측정하여 배터리 팩(100)의 온도가 기 설정된 제1 기준 온도 이하인 경우, 상기 제1 방열부품(120)이 구동되도록 제어하고, 측정된 내부의 온도가 기 설정된 제2 기준 온도 이상인 경우, 발열부품(150)이 구동되도록 제어한다. 일반적으로 Li-ion 배터리의 성능이 저하되는 온도는 -30℃ 미만 30℃ 이상인 경우이므로, 여기서 기 설정된 제1 기준 온도는 일 실시 예로써 -5℃로 설정하고, 기 설정된 제2 기준 온도는 일 실시 예로써 15℃로 설정하여 안정적인 배터리 팩 구동이 가능하도록 한다.
또한, 상기 발열부품(150)은 패드, 열선, 액체 히터 또는 금속 히터를 사용하고, 상기 방열부품(120)은 방열 패드, 방열선, 액체 쿨러 또는 금속 쿨러를 사용한다. 이와 같이 원형 셀(140) 상/하부에 방열부품(120) 및 발열부품(150)을 부착하는 이유는 기존에 지그재그 측면부착형태보다 방열부품 간의 반발력이 약하고 열 전달 효율이 높으며 부착방법이 간편하기 때문이다. 또한, 상기 방열부품(120)을 상기 원형 셀(140) 상부에 두고 상기 발열부품(150)을 상기 원형 셀(140) 하부에 두는 이유는 상기 원형 셀(140)에서 발생된 열을 위로 상승시켜 상기 방열부품(120)을 통해 외부로 방출될 수 있도록 하고, 상기 발열부품(150)에서 발생한 열이 상기 원형 셀(140)에 가해질 수 있도록 구성되어야 되기 때문이다.
한편, 본 발명의 기술적 사상은 상기 실시 예에 따라 구체적으로 기술되었으나, 상기 실시 예는 그 설명을 위한 것이며, 그 제한을 위한 것이 아님을 주지해야 한다. 또한, 본 발명의 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자는 서술한 특허청구범위 기술 내에서 다양한 실시 예가 가능할 수 있을 것이다.
Claims (12)
- 복수개의 원형 셀에 열을 가하는 발열부품을 포함하여 구성된 배터리 팩에 있어서,상기 복수개의 원형 셀의 상부에 구성되어 배터리 팩의 내부를 보호하는 상단부 커버;상기 상단부 커버의 하부에 위치하며, 상기 복수개의 원형 셀 상부에 접합되어 있는 제1금속패널;상기 복수개의 원형 셀 하부에 접합되어 있는 제2금속패널;상기 복수개의 원형 셀 전체의 외곽측면 및 제2 금속패널의 하부를 감싸 고정시키는 홀더; 및상기 제2금속패널 및 상기 홀더의 하부에 위치하여 배터리 팩 하단부를 형성하는 하단부 커버;를 포함하는 배터리 팩.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 발열부품은 상기 제1금속패널과 상단부 커버 사이에 부착되거나 또는, 상기 홀더와 하단부 커버 사이에 부착되거나, 또는 제1금속패널과 상단부 커버 사이 및 상기 홀더와 하단부 커버 사이 양쪽에 모두 부착되는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 팩.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 제1금속패널 및 제2금속패널은 높은 열전도성을 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 팩.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 발열부품은 발열 패드, 열선, 액체 히터 또는 금속 히터를 사용하는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 팩.
- 복수개의 원형 셀에서 발생되는 열을 흡수하는 방열부품을 포함하여 구성된 배터리 팩에 있어서,상기 복수개의 원형 셀의 상부에 구성되어 배터리 팩 내부를 보호하는 상단부 커버;상기 상단부 커버의 하부에 위치하며, 상기 복수개의 원형 셀 상부에 접합되어 있는 제1금속패널;상기 복수개의 원형 셀 하부에 접합되어 있는 제2금속패널;상기 복수개의 원형 셀 전체의 외곽측면 및 제2 금속패널의 하부를 감싸 고정시키는 홀더; 및상기 제2 금속패널 및 상기 홀더의 하부에 위치하여 배터리 팩 하단부를 형성하는 하단부 커버;를 포함하는 배터리 팩.
- 청구항 5에 있어서,상기 방열부품은 상기 제1금속패널과 상단부 커버 사이에 부착되거나 또는, 상기 홀더와 하단부 커버 사이에 부착되거나, 또는 제1금속패널과 상단부 커버 사이 및 상기 홀더와 하단부 커버 사이 양쪽에 모두 부착되는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 팩.
- 청구항 5에 있어서,상기 제1금속패널 및 제2금속패널은 높은 열전도성을 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 팩.
- 청구항 5에 있어서,상기 방열부품은 방열 패드, 방열선, 액체 쿨러 또는 금속 쿨러를 사용하는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 팩.
- 복수개의 원형 셀에서 발생되는 열을 흡수하는 방열부품 및 복수개의 원형 셀에 열을 가하는 발열부품을 포함하여 구성된 배터리 팩에 있어서,상기 복수개의 원형 셀의 상부에 구성되어 배터리 팩 내부를 보호하는 상단부 커버;상기 상단부 커버의 하부에 위치하며, 상기 복수 개의 원형 셀 상부에 접합되어 있는 제1금속패널;상기 복수개의 원형 셀 하부에 접합되어 있는 제2금속패널;상기 복수개의 원형 셀 전체의 외곽측면 및 제2 금속패널의 하부를 감싸 고정시키는 홀더; 및상기 제2 금속패널 및 상기 홀더의 하부에 위치하여 배터리 팩 하단부를 형성하는 하단부 커버;를 포함하는 배터리 팩.
- 청구항 9에 있어서,상기 방열부품은 상기 제1금속패널과 상단부 커버 사이에 부착되며 상기 발열부품은 상기 홀더와 하단부 커버 사이에 부착되거나 또는, 상기 발열부품이 상기 제1금속패널과 상단부 커버 사이에 부착되고 상기 방열부품이 홀더와 하단부 커버 사이에 부착되는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 팩.
- 청구항 9에 있어서,상기 제1금속패널 및 제2금속패널은 높은 열전도성을 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 팩.
- 청구항 9에 있어서,상기 발열부품은 발열 패드, 열선, 액체 히터 또는 금속 히터를 사용하고, 상기 방열부품은 방열 패드, 방열선, 액체 쿨러 또는 금속 쿨러를 사용하는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 팩.
