Definitions
- the present disclosure relates to a movable seat assembly for a construction machine, and more particularly, to a movable seat that can move laterally and swivel in various directions.
- a seat having such a swivel function enables an operator to have good visibility with respect to the edges of a machine and to easily look to the rear when moving the machine, such as a single drum compactor, backwards.
- a cab space is limited, and thus, a seat often interferes with a trim and a steering wheel during swiveling and, especially for a seat with a console box, the console box very easily interferes with a steering column. Consequently, the seat may not swivel to a desired rotation angle.
- the operator’s legs may also easily bump the steering column when the seat is swiveled if the rotation axis is only at the seat.
- the seat not only needs to swivel but also needs to move laterally or change the rotation axis during swiveling.
- a lateral slider In construction machines, using a lateral slider can enable the seat to move laterally.
- the lateral slider is long and large and needs to be assembled in a specific manner.
- the cab structure may require modification for assembling the lateral slider, thus increasing cost and design time.
- the swivel seat is optional and thus redesigning a cab to accommodate the optional seat is undesirable.
- the best solution is to design a smart seat that has both lateral moving and a swivel function.
- the smart seat uses an assembly method that does not require changing a cab frame.
- the present disclosure provides a novel smart seat having both a swivel function and lateral moving.
- a seat assembly according to exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure may be used in a construction vehicle without modifications to the shape of a cab of the vehicle. It is not necessary to create a special cab structure for this seat.
- the novel smart seat allows an operator to easily adjust the swivel and lateral movements of the seat.
- a compact seat assembly structure includes a swivel seat, sliders, and a connection bracket.
- a (forward-backward) slider may be used to move the seat forward and backward, and a lateral slider may be positioned under the seat and may be connected to the seat by fasteners. When the slider is not connected to the seat directly, the connection bracket may be needed.
- the operator may move the seat laterally by operating a slider handle.
- the operator may first move the seat laterally and then swivel the seat.
- the rotation center point of a seat unit is not the same as in the conventional seat, but it is near the center of a steering column, which offers enough space for the operator to operate the vehicle.
- a relative distance between the seat and a steering wheel may only be changed by a small amount, which makes it easy for the operator to operate the steering wheel.
- connections between the fasteners and the lateral slider may be strengthened to meet ROPS requirements for construction equipment.
