본 출원은 2016년 06월 9일자 한국특허출원 제10-2016-0071640호에 기초한 우선권의 이익을 주장하며, 해당 한국특허출원의 문헌에 개시된 모든 내용은 본 명세서의 일부로서 포함된다.
기술분야
본 발명은 이차전지에 관한 것으로서, 특히 전극조립체의 스웰링(swelling)을 효과적으로 억제하는 이차전지에 관한 것이다.
일반적으로 이차 전지(secondary battery)는 충전이 불가능한 일차 전지와는 달리 충전 및 방전이 가능한 전지를 말하며, 이러한 이차 전지는 폰, 노트북 컴퓨터 및 캠코더 등의 첨단 전자 기기 분야에서 널리 사용되고 있다.
이러한 이차전지는 전극조립체, 상기 전극조립체가 수용되는 케이스를 포함하며, 상기 전극조립체는 복수의 전극과 복수의 분리막이 교대로 적층되면서 형성된다.
이와 같은 이차전지는 성능을 향상시키기 위해 충방전 공정을 수행하는데, 이때 전극조립체가 스웰링(swelling)되면서 변형이 발생하는 문제점이 있었으며, 더불어 전극조립체의 스웰링에 의해 이차전지의 외형이 증대되면서 제품불량이 발생하는 문제점이 있었다.
본 발명은 상기와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위해 발명된 것으로, 본 발명의 목적은 케이스를 통해 전극조립체의 스웰링을 효과적으로 억제하고, 더불어 이차전지의 외형 증대 및 제품불량을 방지하는 이차전지를 제공하는데 있다.
상기와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위한 본 발명에 따른 이차전지는 전극조립체; 및 상기 전극조립체가 수용되는 케이스를 포함하며, 상기 케이스는 열에 의해 수축되는 열수축성 보호층을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 케이스는 금속층, 외측 접착층 및 열수축성 보호층이 순차적으로 적층된 구조를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 열수축성 보호층은 상기 케이스의 가장 바깥쪽에 위치될 수 있다.
상기 열수축성 보호층은 상기 케이스의 가장 바깥쪽에 부착되거나 또는 상기 케이스에 포함되되, 상기 케이스의 가장 바깥쪽에 적층될 수 있다.
상기 열수축성 보호층은 상기 케이스의 가장 안쪽에 위치될 수 있다.

본 발명은 하기와 같은 효과가 있다.
첫째: 본 발명의 이차전지는 열수축성 보호층을 포함하는 케이스를 마련하며, 이에 전극조립체의 스웰링을 효과적으로 억제할 수 있고, 전극조립체 및 이차전지의 변형을 방지할 수 있다.
둘째: 본 발명의 이차전지에서 케이스는 금속층, 외측 접착층 및 열수축성 보호층으로 마련하며, 이에 케이스의 절연성을 유지하면서 전극조립체의 스웰링을 효과적으로 억제할 수 있다.
셋째: 본 발명의 이차전지에서 열수축성 보호층은 이축연신 필름으로 마련되며, 이에 전극조립체의 변형을 현저히 방지할 수 있다.
넷째: 본 발명의 이차전지에서 열수축성 보호층은 절연성 소재로 마련되며, 이에 열수축성 보호층에 의해 외부와 쇼트가 발생하는 문제를 방지할 수 있다.
다섯째: 본 발명의 이차전지에서 열수축성 보호층은 열경화성이 없는 소재로 마련되며, 이에 열수축성 보호층의 온도가 내려가면 케이스가 원상태로 복원되면서 사용의 연속성을 얻을 수 있다.
여섯째: 본 발명의 이차전지에서 케이스는 실링층과 내측 접착층을 더 포함하며, 이에 케이스의 실링성을 함께 높일 수 있다.

이하, 첨부한 도면을 참조하여 본 발명이 속하는 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자가 용이하게 실시할 수 있도록 본 발명의 일 실시예를 상세히 설명한다. 그러나 본 발명은 여러 가지 상이한 형태로 구현될 수 있으며 여기에서 설명하는 실시예에 한정되지 않는다. 그리고 도면에서 본 발명을 명확하게 설명하기 위해서 설명과 관계없는 부분은 생략하였으며, 명세서 전체를 통하여 유사한 부분에 대해서는 유사한 도면 부호를 붙였다.
본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 이차전지는 도 1에 도시되어 있는 것과 같이, 전극조립체(110), 전극조립체(110)가 수용되는 케이스(120)를 포함한다.
전극조립체(110)는 복수의 전극과 복수의 분리막이 상하방향을 따라 교대로 적층되면서 형성된다. 상기 복수의 전극은 제1 전극과 제2 전극으로 마련되고, 상기 복수의 분리막은 제1 분리막 및 제2 분리막으로 마련될 수 있다.
즉, 전극조립체(110)는 제1 전극, 제1 분리막, 제2 전극 및 제2 분리막이 상하방향을 따라 순차적으로 적층된 기본단위체, 또는 상기 기본단위체가 2개 이상 적층되는 단위체 스택부로 형성될 수 있다.
케이스(120)는 파우치형태를 가지며, 내부에 전극조립체(110)가 수용된다.
한편, 이차전지는 전지 성능을 향상시키기 위해 충방전 공정을 수행하는데, 이때 전극조립체(110)의 충방전시 셀 저항에 의한 열이 발생함과 동시에 음극에 리튬 삽입, 탈리 및 전극조립체의 계면이 늘어남에 따라 스웰링(swelling)되면서 변형이 발생하는 문제점이 있었으며, 특히 반복되는 충방전으로 인해 전극의 탈리 혹은 늘어난 계면으로 인한 저항 증가로 셀 성능의 퇴화 및 이차전지의 외형이 증대되면서 제품불량이 발생하는 문제점이 있었다.
상기와 같은 문제를 해결하기 위해 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 이차전지는 충방전시 전극조립체(110)의 스웰링을 효과적으로 억제하는 열수축성 보호층(125)을 구비하는 케이스(120)를 포함한다.
즉, 케이스(120)는 열수축성 보호층(125)을 포함하며, 이 열수축성 보호층(125)은 충방전시 전극조립체(110)에서 발생하는 열에 의해 수축하면서 전극조립체(110)를 효과적으로 압박함에 따라 전극조립체(110)의 스웰링을 효과적으로 억제시킬 수 있고, 이에 전극조립체(110) 및 이차전지의 변형을 방지할 수 있다. 특히 충방전시 발생하는 열을 열수축 보호층이 흡수하여 셀 swelling도 개선시킬 뿐만 아니라, 결국 셀의 온도도 낮출 수 있으므로 온도 상승으로 인한 셀의 수명 퇴화를 개선하여 안전성이 증대되는 효과도 얻을 수 있다.
여기서 케이스(120)는 금속층(123), 외측 접착층(124) 및 열수축성 보호층(125)이 순차적으로 적층된 구조를 포함한다.
이에, 케이스(120)는 금속층(123)을 통해 케이스(120)의 강도를 높일 수 있고, 열수축성 보호층(125)을 통해 전극조립체(110)의 스웰링을 효과적으로 억제할 수 있으며, 외측 접착층(124)을 통해 금속층(123)과 열수축성 보호층(125)의 결합성을 높일 수 있다.
한편, 열수축성 보호층(125)은 케이스(120)의 가장 바깥쪽에 위치될 수 있다. 예로, 케이스(120)의 내측에서 외측방향으로 금속층(123), 외측 접착층(124) 및 열수축성 보호층(125)이 순차적으로 적층된 구조를 포함하며, 이에 케이스(120)에 수용되는 전극조립체(110)와 열수축성 보호층(125)의 접촉에 의해 발생할 수 있는 문제를 사전에 방지하고, 보다 안정적으로 케이스(120)를 수축시킬 수 있다.
여기서 열수축성 보호층(125)은 케이스(120)의 제조 후 케이스(120)의 가장 바깥쪽에 부착될 수도 있고, 케이스(120) 제조시 케이스(120)의 바깥쪽에 위치되도록 적층될 수도 있다. 이에 제작의 편의성과 용이성을 높일 수 있다.
한편, 열수축성 보호층(125)은 케이스(120)의 안쪽에 위치될 수 있다. 예로, 케이스(120)의 내측에서 외측방향으로 열수축성 보호층(125), 외측 접착층(124) 및 금속층(123)이 순차적으로 적층된 구조를 가진다.
한편, 열수축성 보호층(125)은 절연성을 가진 소재로 마련될 수 있다. 즉, 열수축 보호층이 전도성 소재라면 전극조립체(110)에 포함된 서로 다른 전극이 열수축성 보호층(125)에 의해 연결되면서 쇼트가 발생할 수 있게 되므로, 이를 방지하기 위해 열수축성 보호층(125)을 절연성 소재로 마련하여 서로 다른 전극의 단락을 방지하고, 쇼트 사고 발생을 미연에 방지한다.
한편, 열수축성 보호층(125)은 이축연신 필름(xial oriented film)으로 마련될 수 있다. 즉, 이축연신 필름은 강도, 열수축성, 투명성이 우수한 것으로, 이축연신 필름으로 열수축성 보호층을 마련함으로써 충방전시 전극조립체(110)의 부피 팽창을 안정적으로 압박하여 변형을 방지할 수 있다.
한편, 열수축성 보호층(125)은 나이론(Nylon), 폴리프로필렌(Polypropylene), 폴리에스테르(Polyester), 폴리아미드(Polyamide) 및 폴리스티렌(Polystyrene) 중 어느 하나의 소재로 마련될 수 있다. 상기 소재는 평상시 전극조립체(110)를 압박하지 않으며, 충방전시 전극조립체(110)에서 발생하는 열에 의해 수축하면서 전극조립체(110)를 효과적으로 압박한다.
한편, 열수축성 보호층(125)은 열경화성이 없는 소재로 마련될 수 있다. 즉, 열수축성 보호층(125)은 열을 가할수록 단단하게 굳어지지 않는 소재로 마련되며, 이에, 전극조립체(110)에서 발생한 열에 의해 수축하더라도 유연성을 가지며, 이에 전극조립체를 효과적으로 압박할 수 있다. 특히 열경화성이 없는 소재인 경우 열수축성 보호층(125)의 온도가 내려갈 경우 원상태로 복원될 수 있는데, 이 경우 사용의 연속성을 얻을 수 있다.
한편, 열수축성 보호층(125)은 케이스(120)의 둘레 전체에 걸쳐 마련된다. 즉, 열수축성 보호층(125)의 수축시 케이스(120) 전체가 동시에 수축되면서 전극조립체(110)의 전체를 균일하게 압박할 수 있다.
한편, 케이스(120)는 내면에 실링층(121)과 내측 접착층(122)이 더 적층될 수 있다. 즉, 케이스(120)는 내측에서 외측으로 감에 따라 실링층(121), 내측 접착층(122), 금속층(123), 외측 접착층(124), 및 열수축성 보호층(125)이 순차적으로 적층되는 구조로 형성된다. 이에 추가되는 실링층(121)을 통해 케이스(120)의 실링력을 높일 수 있고, 내측 접착층(122)을 통해 실링층(121)과 금속층(123)의 결합력을 높일 수 있다.
이와 같이 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 이차전지는 열수축성 보호층(125)을 구비한 케이스(120)를 포함으로써 충방전시 전극조립체(110)의 스웰링을 효과적으로 억제할 수 있으며, 특히 전극조립체(110) 및 이차전지의 변형을 방지할 수 있어 전지의 안전성 및 상품성을 높일 수 있다.
본 발명의 범위는 상기 상세한 설명보다는 후술하는 특허청구범위에 의하여 나타내어지며, 특허청구범위의 의미 및 범위 그리고 그 균등 개념으로부터 도출되는 다양한 실시 형태가 가능하다.
Claims (13)
- 전극조립체; 및상기 전극조립체가 수용되는 케이스를 포함하며,상기 케이스는 열에 의해 수축되는 열수축성 보호층을 포함하는 이차전지.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 케이스는 금속층, 외측 접착층 및 열수축성 보호층이 순차적으로 적층된 구조를 포함하는 이차전지.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 열수축성 보호층은 상기 케이스의 가장 바깥쪽에 위치되는 이차전지.
- 청구항 3에 있어서,상기 열수축성 보호층은 상기 케이스의 가장 바깥쪽에 부착되는 이차전지.
- 청구항 3에 있어서,상기 열수축성 보호층은 상기 케이스의 가장 바끝쪽에 적층되는 이차전지.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 열수축성 보호층은 상기 케이스의 가장 안쪽에 위치되는 이차전지.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 열수축성 보호층은 절연성 소재로 마련되는 이차전지.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 열수축성 보호층은 이축연신 필름(biaxial oriented film)으로 마련되는 이차전지.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 열수축성 보호층은 나이론(Nylon), 폴리프로필렌(Polypropylene), 폴리에스테르(Polyester), 폴리아미드(Polyamide) 및 폴리스티렌(Polystyrene) 중 어느 하나로 마련되는 이차전지.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 열수축성 보호층은 열경화성이 없는 소재로 마련되는 이차전지.
- 청구항 2에 있어서,상기 케이스의 내면에 실링층과 내측 접착층이 더 적층되는 이차전지.
- 청구항 11 있어서,상기 케이스는 내측에서 외측으로 감에 따라 실링층, 내측 접착층, 금속층, 외측 접착층, 및 열수축성 보호층이 순차적으로 적층되는 구조로 형성되는 이차전지.
- 청구항 1에 있어서상기 열수축성 보호층은 상기 케이스의 둘레 전체에 걸쳐 마련되는 이차전지.
