Definitions

  • the present invention relates to oral and dental care and cleaning compositions containing fluoride and calcium salt (s).
  • the aforementioned agent has improved storage stability and anti-enamel activity.
  • Enamel consists mainly of calcium hydroxyapatite of the formula Caio (PO 4) 6 (OH) 2, which may be partially substituted with anions such as carbonates or fluorides and cations such as zinc or magnesium. Furthermore, enamel may also contain non-apatitic mineral phases such as octacalcium phosphate and calcium carbonate.
  • the loss of tooth enamel can be caused by caries.
  • Caries are local cavities caused by the action of bacterial acids on the enamel.
  • the formation of bacterial acids is carried out by microorganisms, which are contained in the surrounding biofilm (plaque) and convert carbohydrates from food to acids.
  • the action of the bacterial acids dissolves calcium phosphates from the enamel and demineralises it continuously. This demineralization eventually leads to the formation of local cavities of the enamel and the tooth in the form of caries.
  • the loss of enamel can be caused by non-bacterial acids, which lead to a surface erosion (also called erosion) of the enamel.
  • the action of acids on enamel leads to a demineralization, which results in a softening of the tooth surface as well as in a decrease of the mineral density and tooth hardness.
  • the demineralized enamel regenerates through the saliva containing remineralizing calcium and phosphate compounds.
  • salivation results in washout of the acid and an increase in pH at which minerals can deposit in the enamel.
  • fluoride-containing compounds are used to prevent erosion of the enamel and the formation of decay.
  • fluoride can not completely prevent the loss of enamel and caries.
  • Bivalent cations such as calcium, are other important building blocks of natural remineralization processes. To aid this natural process, a variety of dentifrice formulations contain an additional source of calcium or other bivalent cations.
  • the desirable use of calcium salts in fluoride-containing oral and dental care and cleaning agents can therefore lead to inactivation of the fluoride, the so-called "fluoride depletion", especially during prolonged storage of the corresponding products.
  • the present invention relates to oral and dental care and cleaning compositions, containing - based on their weight - a) 500 to 1600 ppm fluoride, calculated as F ⁇ ,

  • This may be provided in the form of inorganic fluoride salts (sodium fluoride, stannous fluoride, sodium monofluorophosphate, etc.), but amine fluorides such as olaflur are also suitable. Regardless of the type of fluoride compound used, the amount used is calculated as F ⁇ .
