Abstract

Disclosed is a storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading operation in an automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine. The storage and handling assembly includes a movable trolley for storing and handling of the rubber cot arbours to be loaded in or unloaded from the fixed magazines and a lifter unit being attached to fixed magazines at loading and unloading points of the rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine. When lifter unit is attached with fixed magazine of the machine at the loading or unloading point and the movable trolley rests on a resting unit of lifter unit, the lifter unit moves the trolley in vertical direction so that trays of the fixed magazine get aligned with the trays of movable trolley and the rubber cot arbours moves from the tray of movable trolley to the trays of fixed magazine or vice versa. Also disclosed is a method for storing and handling of rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading operation in an automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine.

Description

"A STORAGE AND HANDLI NG ASSEMBLY FOR RUBBER COT ARBOURS DURI NG LOADI NG AND UNLOADI NG OPERATI ON I N AN AUTOMOTIVE RUBBER COT GRI NDI NG OR BUFFI NG MACHI NE"
Fl ELD OF INVENTION:
The invention relates to a field of textile machinery. More particularly it relates to the automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine. Specifically it relates to storage and handling of finished and unfinished rubber cots loading and unloading process in the rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine.
PRIOR ART:
In textile machinery rubber cot arbours are widely used. The rubber cot arbours are very dedicated articles. For the purpose of finishing, the unfinished abrours are loaded manually in the stationary storage magazine of the rubber cot grinding or buffing machine. In a same way, once the abrours are finished, they are unloaded from the stationary storage magazine of the rubber cot grinding or buffing machine.
Indian patent application No. 1680/MUM/2006 which belongs to inventor of present application discloses rotary type storage unit or magazine for an automatic rubber cot grinding or buffing machine for loading or unloading rubber cot arbour. The rotary type storage unit or magazine comprising a pair of identical rubber cot arbour rotary type storage units be provided side by side on side of the automatic rubber cot grinding or buffing machine, and whereby each of the said rotary type rubber cot arbour loading or unloading storage unit or magazine consisting of a pair of discs provided with a plurality of radial slots; said pair of discs being is mounted on a central screw having nuts supported on a column(s), and rotate intermittently by a rotating means and the gap between said pair of discs is adjusted to various cot dimensions to accommodate various sizes of the rubber cot arbour with adjusting means; wherein the said adjusting means is a rack and pinion or a screw and nuts operated manually using handle or by a prime mover with power transmission means such as electric motor.
The abovementioned patent application suffers from at least one of the following deficiencies: i. The storage magazine has mainly capacity of storing 400 rubber cot arbours. Whereas the automatic rubber cot grinding or buffing machine has capacity of buffing 600 arbours per hour. Thus, the machine is underutilized due to poor storage capacity.
ii. The storage magazine is stationary and fixed to the automatic rubber cot arbour machine. The unfinished arbours are carried out from the ring frame in a basket to the magazine of the machine and placed manually. Similarly, the finished arbours are carried out from the magazine of the machine and taken in a basket to the storage manually. The entire activity requires human intervention which leads to more processing time, possibility of human error and possibility of damage to the arbours.
iii. One has to wait till competition of initial loading and unloading activity before starting next batch of arbours for loading into magazine for further processing which leads to wastage of time.
iv. Since rubber cot arbours are very dedicated articles, there are chances of getting it damaged due to manual handling. v. Manual handling demands for skilled operator/labourer.
vi. Manual handling leads to increase in production cost.
Hence it is necessary to develop a mechanism to store and handle rubber cot arbours which will be free from foregoing problems.
OBJECT OF THE I NVENTI ON :
The principle objective of the present invention is to provide storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading operation in an automotive rubber cot grinding or buffing machine which is devoid of the deficiencies associated with the conventional rubber cot processing mechanisms.
Another objective of the invention is to provide the storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading operation which performs the loading into and unloading from rubber cot grinding or buffing machine of rubber cot arbours automatically without any human intervention.
Further objective of the invention is to provide the storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading operation which protects rubber cot arbours from damage occurred due to manual processing.
Another objective of the invention is to provide the storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading operation which ensures fast and accurate loading and unloading of rubber cots. Another objective of the invention is to provide the storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading operation which ensures less manpower and thereby reduces production cost.
Another objective of the invention is to provide the storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading operation which provides movable standby magazine filled with unfinished arbours to keep the next job ready for buffing. Hence, machine working becomes more efficient as it does not require waiting for loading of unfinished arbours in a fixed magazine of the rubber cot grinding or buffing machine.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
Accordingly to achieve the aforementioned objectives, the present invention provides a A storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading operation in an automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine, the automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine having a fixed magazine at each loading and unloading point, the storage and handling assembly comprising: a movable trolley for storing and handling of the rubber cot arbours to be loaded in or unloaded from the fixed magazines, the movable trolley comprises:
- a plurality of trays for holding the rubber cot arbours, each of the trays comprises a track for permitting movement of the rubber cot arbours, the set of two trays, being fixed adjacent to each other, holds rubber cot arbours and enables movement of the rubber cot arbours over the tracks of the set of trays; - a pair of tray holding units, each of the tray holding unit comprises two vertically installed elongated frames facing each other and connected through a connecting link, the vertically installed elongated frames being configured to move horizontally through a pair of linear guides, the plurality of trays are fixed to the vertically installed elongated frames in either downwardly tilted position or upwardly tilted position based on the loading and unloading operation;
- a pair of first movement control units being operatively connected to the tray holding units, the first movement control units configured to control horizontal movement of the vertically installed elongated frames, the first movement control units enable horizontal movement of the vertically installed elongated frames over linear guides through the connecting link, the vertically installed elongated frames are connected to each other through the connecting link in such a way that when the vertically installed elongated frames moves towards each other length of the connecting link reduces and when vertically installed elongated frames moves away from each other length of the connecting link comes to a normal length,
- a second movement control unit to control movement of the rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading of the rubber cot arbours between the fixed magazines and movable trolley, the second movement control unit comprises three movement restricting rods having plurality of stoppers on inner side and a handle configured to control vertical movement of the rods, the movement restricting rods are installed in such a manner that when the handle is in normal position, the stopper restricts movement of the rubber cot arbours and when the handle is lifted which in turn lifts the movement restricting rods in such a way that the stoppers permit movement of the rubber cot arbours,
- a base plate, the movement restricting rods of second movement control unit, vertically installed elongated frames and the first movement control unit are installed on the base plate, the base plate includes plurality of grooves at the bottom of base plate,
- a plurality of wheels being fixed at the bottom of base plate to enable movement of the trolley; a lifter unit being attached to fixed magazines at loading and unloading points of the rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine, the lifter unit comprises:
- a resting unit to accommodate the movable trolley,
- a jack assembly for making up and down movement of the movable trolley,
- a control unit to control the movement of jack assembly,
- an operating knob to enable movement of the jack assembly on the instruction of the control unit,
- a plurality of locking and locating rods being provided on the resting unit and configured to accommodate inside the fixing grooves of base plate of moving trolley; when lifter unit is attached with the fixed magazine at the loading or unloading point and the movable trolley rests on the resting unit of lifter unit, the lifter unit moves the trolley in vertical direction so that trays of the fixed magazine get aligned with the trays of movable trolley and when the handle of second movement control unit of movable trolley is in lifted position, the rubber cot arbours moves from the tray of movable trolley to the trays of fixed magazine or vice versa
The present invention also provides an automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine, the machine comprising:
- a fixed magazine at each loading and unloading point;
- a storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours as defined above, the storage and handling assembly being installed at each loading and unloading point and in alignment with the fixed magazine so that the rubber cot arbours moves from the storage and handling assembly to the fixed magazine or vice versa.
Also disclosed is a method for storing and handling of rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading operation in an automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine, the method being performed in a storage and handling assembly as claimed in anyone of the claims 1 to 5, the method comprising steps of: during loading operation: filling the movable trolley with unfinished rubber cot arbours; attaching the lifter unit with the fixed magazine at the loading point;
moving the movable trolley with the help of wheels towards the lifter unit;
resting the movable trolley on the resting unit of lifter unit; putting the locking and locating rods of the resting unit inside the fixing grooves of base plate of moving trolley;
moving the trolley in vertical direction using jack assembly of lifter unit so that trays of the fixed magazine get aligned with the trays of movable trolley;
putting the handle of second movement control unit of movable trolley in lifted position;
shifting of the unfinished rubber cot arbours from the tracks of the movable trolley to tracks of fixed magazine; and
sending the unfinished rubber cot arbours further into various processing stages in the grinding and/or buffing machine to get finished rubber cot arbours. during unloading operation: attaching the lifter unit with the fixed magazine at the unloading point;
moving the movable trolley with the help of wheels towards the lifter unit;
resting the movable trolley on the resting unit of lifter unit;
putting the locking and locating rods of the resting unit inside the fixing grooves of base plate of moving trolley;
moving the trolley in vertical direction using jack assembly of lifter unit so that trays of the fixed magazine get aligned with the trays of movable trolley;
putting the handle of second movement control unit of movable trolley in lifted position; and

Further objective and particular features of the invention are exemplified in the embodiment shown in accompanying drawings and described below.
Referring to figure 1, the storage and handling assembly (1) for rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading operation in an automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine, in accordance to present invention is illustrated. Figure 2 shows the exploded view of the assembly illustrated in figure 1. The storage and handling assembly (1) for rubber cot arbours mainly includes a movable trolley (10) and lifter unit (40).
Now referring to figures 1-8, the movable trolley (10) is configured for storing and handling of the rubber cot arbours (50) to be loaded in or unloaded from the fixed magazines of the automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine. The fixed magazines are installed at each loading and unloading point in the automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine. The movable trolley (10) comprises a plurality of trays (11) for holding the rubber cot arbours. Each of the trays (11) comprises a track (12) for permitting movement of the rubber cot arbours (50). The set of two trays (12) being fixed adjacent to each other, holds rubber cot arbours and enables movement of the rubber cot arbours (50) over the tracks of the set of trays. The trays (12) are installed on elongated frames (13, 13', 14, 14'). The trays are fixed to the vertically installed elongated frames in either downwardly tilted position or upwardly tilted position based on the loading and unloading operation. The set of two frames (13,13' & 14,14') installed vertically and facing each other constitutes a complete track for movement of the rubber cot arbours (50). The frames (13, 13', 14, 14') are installed with the help of support frames (15,15'). The frames (13, 13' & 14, 14') are connected through a connecting link (29,29'). The connecting links (29,29') are working similar to watch strap pins i.e length of the connecting link varies as per the pressure at both ends of the connecting links. The frames (13, 13', 14, 14') are configured to move horizontally through a pair of linear guides (30,30').
The horizontal movement of the vertically installed elongated frames (13, 13' & 14, 14') is controlled through the connecting links (29, 29'). The horizontal movement of the vertically installed elongated frames (13, 13' & 14, 14') over linear guides is through the connecting link. The vertically installed elongated frames (13, 13' & 14, 14') are connected to each other through the connecting link in such a way that when the vertically installed elongated frames (13, 13' & 14, 14') moves towards each other length of the connecting link reduces and when vertically installed elongated frames (13, 13' & 14, 14') moves away from each other length of the connecting link comes to a normal length. The movement of the frames (13,14) is carried out by the control arrangement including pulley(24,24') and belt (25,25') which are operated by a handle (26,26'). The handles (26,26') are housed in the housing (33,33'). The control arrangement is provided for each set of the frames (13, 13' & 14, 14'). The control arrangements are installed on the support frames (15,15') through bearings (31, 31', 31", 31"'). The bearings (31 ,31 ',31 ",31 "') are housed in housing (32, 32', 32", 32"').
Three movement restricting rods (17,17', 17") having plurality of stoppers (19) on inner side are provided to control movement of the rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading of the rubber cot arbours between the fixed magazines and movable trolley. A handle (18) controls vertical movement of the rods (17,17', 17"). The movement restricting rods (17, 17', 17") are installed in such a manner that when the handle (18) is in normal position, the stopper (19) restricts movement of the rubber cot arbours and when the handle is lifted which in turn lifts the movement restricting rods in such a way that the stoppers permit movement of the rubber cot arbours (50). The movement restricting rods (17,17', 17"), vertically installed elongated frames (13, 13' & 14, 14') and the control arrangements are installed on a base plate (20). Referring to figure 9, the base plate (20) includes plurality of grooves (34, 34', 34", 34"') at the bottom of base plate. The wheels (21) are fixed at the bottom of base plate to enable movement of the trolley. As the base plate (20) is either rectangular or square shaped, four wheels (21) are required.
Referring to figures 1 and 2, the lifter unit (40) is attached to fixed magazines at loading and unloading points of the rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine. The lifter unit (40) includes a resting unit (44) to accommodate the movable trolley. A jack assembly (41, not completely shown in drawings) is provided for making up and down movement of the movable trolley. The jack assembly (41) of lifter unit can be hydraulically operated, pneumatically operated or electrically operated. The conventional jack assemblies can be used in the present invention. A control unit (not shown in figures) controls the movement of jack assembly. The control unit depends upon the type of the jack assembly. The lifter unit (40) is operated by an operating knob (42) to enable movement of the jack assembly on the instruction of the control unit. The lifter unit also includes a plurality of locking and locating rods (43) which are provided on the resting unit and configured to accommodate inside the fixing grooves (34, 34', 34", 34"') of base plate of moving trolley.
Referring to figures 11 to 13, an automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine (60) is illustrated. The machine (60) is installed with a fixed magazine (70,70') at each loading and unloading point. Further at the loading point a movable trolley (10) and lifter unit (40) are installed and at unloading point a movable trolley (10') and lifter unit (40') are installed. When lifter unit (40,40') is attached with the fixed magazine (70,70') at the loading or unloading point and the movable trolley (10,10') rests on the resting unit of lifter unit, the lifter unit (40,40') moves the trolley (10,10') in vertical direction so that trays (71) of the fixed magazine get aligned with the trays (11) of movable trolley and when the handle (18) of movable trolley is in lifted position, the rubber cot arbours (50) moves from the tray (11) of movable trolley to the trays (71) of fixed magazine or vice versa.
WORKING OF THE PRESENT INVENTION:
The working is divided into two stages as explained below:
/. during loading operation: filling the movable trolley (10) with unfinished rubber cot arbours;
attaching the lifter unit (40) with the fixed magazine (70) at the loading point;
moving the movable trolley (10) with the help of wheels towards the lifter unit (40);
resting the movable trolley (10) on the resting unit (44) of lifter unit; putting the locking and locating rods (43) of the resting unit inside the fixing grooves (34, 34', 34", 34"') of base plate of moving trolley;
moving the trolley (10) in vertical direction using jack assembly
(41) of lifter unit so that trays (71) of the fixed magazine get aligned with the trays (11) of movable trolley;
putting the handle (18) of movable trolley in lifted position; shifting of the unfinished rubber cot arbours from the tracks
(12) of the movable trolley to tracks (72) of fixed magazine; and
sending the unfinished rubber cot arbours further into various processing stages in the grinding and/or buffing machine to get finished rubber cot arbours. g unloading operation: attaching the lifter unit (40') with the fixed magazine at the unloading point;
moving the movable trolley (10') with the help of wheels towards the lifter unit (40');
resting the movable trolley (10') on the resting unit of lifter unit;
putting the locking and locating rods of the resting unit inside the fixing grooves of base plate of moving trolley (10');
moving the trolley (10') in vertical direction using jack assembly of lifter unit (40') so that trays of the fixed magazine get aligned with the trays of movable trolley;
putting the handle of movable trolley (10') in lifted position; and shifting of the finished rubber cot arbours from the tracks of the fixed magazine to tracks of movable trolley.
ADVANTAGES OF THE PRESENT INVENTION: i. The storage capacity of rubber cot arbours get doubled as there are two storage magazine in which one is fixed and other is movable, thereby machine is always fully utilized.
ii. The unfinished arbours are filled at ring frame side in a movable twin trolley and moved to the machine. The matching between movable trolley and fixed magazine for transfer of unfinished rubber cot arbours is not done manually. Thus, human handling errors are eliminated.
iii. The movable twin trolley with unfinished arbours can be kept ready for the next job. Hence, machine need not to stop or wait for the next job. Hence, reasonable processing time is saved. Similarly, finished arbours can be taken away swiftly in the trolley putting next empty trolley in place with the help of lifter. Hence, machine need not to stop or wait for the next job. Hence, again reasonable time is saved.
While various embodiments of the present invention have been described above, it should be understood that they have been presented by way of example only, and not limitation. It will be understood by those skilled in the relevant art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

Claims

CLAI MS
1. A storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading operation in an automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine, the automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine having a fixed magazine at each loading and unloading point, the storage and handling assembly comprising: a movable trolley for storing and handling of the rubber cot arbours to be loaded in or unloaded from the fixed magazines, the movable trolley comprises:
- a plurality of trays for holding the rubber cot arbours, each of the trays comprises a track for permitting movement of the rubber cot arbours, the set of two trays, being fixed adjacent to each other, holds rubber cot arbours and enables movement of the rubber cot arbours over the tracks of the set of trays;
- a pair of tray holding units, each of the tray holding unit comprises two vertically installed elongated frames facing each other and connected through a connecting link, the vertically installed elongated frames being configured to move horizontally through a pair of linear guides, the plurality of trays are fixed to the vertically installed elongated frames in either downwardly tilted position or upwardly tilted position based on the loading and unloading operation;
- a pair of first movement control units being operatively connected to the tray holding units, the first movement control units configured to control horizontal movement of the vertically installed elongated frames, the first movement control units enable horizontal movement of the vertically installed elongated frames over linear guides through the connecting link, the vertically installed elongated frames are connected to each other through the connecting link in such a way that when the vertically installed elongated frames moves towards each other length of the connecting link reduces and when vertically installed elongated frames moves away from each other length of the connecting link comes to a normal length,
- a second movement control unit to control movement of the rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading of the rubber cot arbours between the fixed magazines and movable trolley, the second movement control unit comprises three movement restricting rods having plurality of stoppers on inner side and a handle configured to control vertical movement of the rods, the movement restricting rods are installed in such a manner that when the handle is in normal position, the stopper restricts movement of the rubber cot arbours and when the handle is lifted which in turn lifts the movement restricting rods in such a way that the stoppers permit movement of the rubber cot arbours,
- a base plate, the movement restricting rods of second movement control unit, vertically installed elongated frames and the first movement control unit are installed on the base plate, the base plate includes plurality of grooves at the bottom of base plate,
- a plurality of wheels being fixed at the bottom of base plate to enable movement of the trolley; a lifter unit being attached to fixed magazines at loading and unloading points of the rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine, the lifter unit comprises: - a resting unit to accommodate the movable trolley,
- a jack assembly for making up and down movement of the movable trolley,
- a control unit to control the movement of jack assembly,
- an operating knob to enable movement of the jack assembly on the instruction of the control unit,
- a plurality of locking and locating rods being provided on the resting unit and configured to accommodate inside the fixing grooves of base plate of moving trolley; when lifter unit is attached with the fixed magazine at the loading or unloading point and the movable trolley rests on the resting unit of lifter unit, the lifter unit moves the trolley in vertical direction so that trays of the fixed magazine get aligned with the trays of movable trolley and when the handle of second movement control unit of movable trolley is in lifted position, the rubber cot arbours moves from the tray of movable trolley to the trays of fixed magazine or vice versa.
2. The storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours as claimed in claim 1 wherein the first movement control unit comprises a belt and pulley arrangement being operated by a rotating handle.
3. The storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours as claimed in claim 1 wherein the jack assembly of lifter unit is hydrau lically operated.
4. The storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours as claimed in claim 1 wherein the jack assembly of lifter unit is pneumatically operated.
5. The storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours as claimed in claim 1 wherein the jack assembly of lifter unit is electrically operated.
6. An automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine, the machine comprising: a fixed magazine at each loading and unloading point; a storage and handling assembly for rubber cot arbours as claimed in anyone of the claims 1 to 5, the storage and handling assembly being installed at each loading and unloading point and in alignment with the fixed magazine so that the rubber cot arbours moves from the storage and handling assembly to the fixed magazine or vice versa.
7. A method for storing and handling of rubber cot arbours during loading and unloading operation in an automotive rubber cot grinding and/or buffing machine, the method being performed in a storage and handling assembly as claimed in anyone of the claims 1 to 5, the method comprising steps of: during loading operation: filling the movable trolley with unfinished rubber cot arbours; attaching the lifter unit with the fixed magazine at the loading point;
moving the movable trolley with the help of wheels towards the lifter unit;
resting the movable trolley on the resting unit of lifter unit; putting the locking and locating rods of the resting unit inside the fixing grooves of base plate of moving trolley;
moving the trolley in vertical direction using jack assembly of lifter unit so that trays of the fixed magazine get aligned with the trays of movable trolley;
putting the handle of second movement control unit of movable trolley in lifted position;
shifting of the unfinished rubber cot arbours from the tracks of the movable trolley to tracks of fixed magazine; and
sending the unfinished rubber cot arbours further into various processing stages in the grinding and/or buffing machine to get finished rubber cot arbours. during unloading operation: attaching the lifter unit with the fixed magazine at the unloading point;
moving the movable trolley with the help of wheels towards the lifter unit;
resting the movable trolley on the resting unit of lifter unit;
putting the locking and locating rods of the resting unit inside the fixing grooves of base plate of moving trolley;
moving the trolley in vertical direction using jack assembly of lifter unit so that trays of the fixed magazine get aligned with the trays of movable trolley;
putting the handle of second movement control unit of movable trolley in lifted position; and
shifting of the finished rubber cot arbours from the tracks of the fixed magazine to tracks of movable trolley.
