Description

A METHOD OF MAKING DECORATIVE STRETCH CEILINGS
This invention relates to the field of construction, particularly to the technology of making stretch ceilings out of polymeric materials, and is used for creation of interior designs for domestic and other premises.
There is a widely known technology of making the so-called "classic" stretch ceilings, according to which the pre-measurement of premises is taken, the polymeric material is cut and welded if appropriate, a frame out of profiles is set, and then the material is stretched within the frame. A durable polymeric film is stretched between the profiles that are fixed along the premise perimeter, which makes it possible to have a perfectly flat and smooth surface.
The disadvantage of such stretch ceilings is their uniformity, as it gives an impression of monotony and makes it impossible to use a tailored approach to meet the customer's preferences or the style of premises, despite the film textures and colours being rather diverse.
The use of perforated films with perforations over the film surface is the new recent trend in stretching finishing. The arrangement of perforations and their diameter may vary, though the diversity depends on the makers of perforated films (http://demi-lune-sevastopol.ibud.ua/ru/praisy- companii/535/filters/l 8717_18833).
The limited opportunity for tailored approach and creation of a custom- made ceiling design is the disadvantage of stretch ceilings with perforated films.
There is a method of making decorative ceilings out of polymeric material with an applied pattern, which suggests that pre-chosen patterns are transferred digitally and recorded in the computer memory of a printing machine control system, and then applied onto the cut polymeric material for decorative stretch ceiling. The polymeric material, in its turn, is mounted when heated by stretching the heated material onto the frame of profiles of the decorative ceiling (Ukrainian Patent No. 74161 , International Patent Classification E04B 9/04, "Welded flexible polymeric material with applied pattern for making stretching structures like decorative ceilings; decorative ceiling and the method of its making" issued on 15.1 1.2005).
The disadvantage of this method is the use of additional expensive materials like paints and varnishes for printing, as well as the need for additional processing of applied patterns to protect them against UV radiation, which in its turn makes the process of making decorative ceilings more complicated and costly. Besides, making decorative ceilings with applied patterns does not entirely meet the modern trends of the fashion industry that also influence the interior design. Recently laser engraving and ornamental cutouts on clothing, accessories, fabrics, and furniture have become a trend.
In the basis of the invention there is a task to improve the method of making decorative stretch ceilings by introducing changes to the process operations; simplifying the process of making a decorative ceiling, enhancing the functional capabilities and, consequently, improving the stretch ceiling appearance, reducing the costs, ensuring the tailored approach, and creating a custom-made ceiling design.
The task is solved in the way that for the method of making decorative stretch ceilings, which involves a choice of a pattern, cutting the polymeric material, its processing using a special-purpose computer-controlled machine with the pattern digitally pre-recorded in its memory, and mounting the cut and processed polymeric material by fixing the heated material into profiles, according to the invention the polymeric material is processed by cutting out patterns using a special-purpose computer-controlled machine equipped with a cutting tool, and the profiles are pre-set on a ceiling or walls or pre-assembled as a frame.
The patterns are created using computer programs prior to their choosing for this purpose. In this case, the polymeric material cutting and processing are performed simultaneously using a special-purpose computer-controlled machine equipped with a cutting tool.
Besides, the processed polymeric material is mounted together with solid polymeric material, which is placed above or below the processed polymeric material.
Furthermore, profiles are used for making tray ceilings and the processed polymeric material is mounted together with solid polymeric material, which is placed above or below the processed polymeric material.
Moreover, profiles have at least two processed polymeric materials fixed into them.
Besides, profiles are used for making tray ceilings with at least two processed polymeric materials fixed into them.
With that, the polymeric material may be translucent, semi-translucent or opaque, may also have frost, satin or lacquer coating, marbled coating, chamois-like or silk-like coating, and be of any colour.
The processing of polymeric material done with the pattern cut out by a special-purpose computer-controlled machine equipped with a cutting tool makes it possible to omit the use of expensive additional materials for making decorative ceilings with patterns and thus simplify the making process and, consequently, reduce the costs. Meanwhile, cutting out the pattern in the polymeric material enhances the functional capabilities of decorative ceilings, in particular, improves their acoustic properties due to the partial acoustic energy absorption. The processing of the polymeric material by a special- purpose computer-controlled machine makes it possible to record and cut out a tailored pattern from the polymeric materials of various colours and textures, which makes it possible to make custom-designed ceilings, and mounting of an additional solid polymeric material or polymeric material with a cut out pattern produces additional volume effect, improves acoustic properties, and enhances the possibilities for ceiling decoration. The claimed invention has illustration with
figure 1 being an example of a pattern for cutting stretch ceilings;
figure 2 being an example of a decorative stretch ceiling with a cut out pattern; figure 3 being an interior decorated with a stretch ceiling with a cut out pattern that was mounted using one solid polymeric material;
figure 4 being an interior decorated with a stretch ceiling with a cut out pattern that was mounted using different polymeric materials at different levels.
The claimed method of making decorative stretch ceilings is implemented as follows.
A customer chooses a pattern for a stretch ceiling from a pattern catalogue suggested by a decorative stretch ceiling maker. Besides, a customer may create a pattern for a decorative ceiling using the help of a designer, considering the premise dimensions, lighting sources, and colour scheme for creating a volume effect. The chosen or computer-designed pattern is recorded into the digital memory of a special-purpose computer-controlled machine (CNC machine) equipped with a cutting tool. The machine cuts out a pattern in the polymeric material used for making stretch ceilings (included in the state of art, namely as a polymeric film, which may be of various colour and texture). It is also possible to cut the polymeric material using it.
The cut polymeric material with a cut out pattern is fixed in the profiles for stretch ceilings; the profiles are pre-fastened in proper places: either on a ceiling or walls (straight, wavy-grained, concrete, brick, plasterboard, bamboo etc.). Profiles of different designs made of metal (like aluminum), polymeric materials (like PVC) or timber (like medium density fibreboard, chipboard or wood) may be used. Besides, profiles out of rigid materials may be assembled as a frame that may be moved and set in different places together with the stretched polymeric material according to the customer" s choice.
Fastening or fixation of the polymeric material in the profiles is performed by the state of art methods like with or without a harpoon or any other method; with that the polymeric material is heated by a special-purpose heating machine to increase the area and enhance the stretch properties. The stretch ceiling has a tight and flat surface with perfect cut out patterns upon its complete fixing.
The claimed method of making decorative ceilings makes it possible to create a variety of ceiling options. The ceilings made with this method may be placed directly over any prepared and painted ceiling or against any another stretch ceiling, either solid or with a cut out pattern. In this case, each polymeric material in tray ceilings may be fixed in a separate profile, and several polymeric materials may be fixed in one profile that may have one or two dapping.
The usage of several stretch ceilings with cut out patterns creates a volume effect that may be further enhanced and modified by means of lighting depending on its location and working mode of the light sources.
The ceiling made using this method has low cost as it requires no additional expensive materials, and is of high quality due to the use of polymeric material processed by a special-purpose computer-controlled machine equipped with a cutting tool, which makes it possible for tailored approach to each customer with respect to the creation of a custom-made ceiling design.
The claimed method of making decorative stretch ceilings has been brought into use as "Apply Style" by Beltendo Commercial and Industrial Company in Odessa city. The implementation of this method is performed using a unique modern computer-controlled machine, which makes it possible to avoid manual stretch ceiling cutting and provide high-quality processing of the polymeric material at any complexity of the chosen pattern. Stretch ceilings made in "Apply Style" are in good demand on the construction and renovation service market.
