Definitions
- the present invention relates to a sealed battery provided with a sealing body having a current interruption mechanism.
- a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery which is one of sealed batteries, has high energy density and is widely used as a drive power source for portable electronic devices such as smartphones, tablet computers, notebook computers and portable music players. Yes.
- the applications of non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries have expanded to power tools, electric-assisted bicycles, and electric vehicles, and non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries are highly safe even when used in harsh environments. Is required to show.
- Non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries use a flammable organic solvent in the electrolyte, so there is no way to ensure safety even if an internal short circuit or overcharge occurs due to external impact or misuse. Built in the battery.
- Patent Documents 1 to 3 disclose means for incorporating an explosion-proof valve and a current interruption mechanism inside a sealing body.
- the explosion-proof valve is composed of a valve body made of a metal foil having excellent flexibility.
- the valve body is deformed as the battery internal pressure increases, and when the battery internal pressure reaches a predetermined value, the valve body is broken and the gas inside the battery is released.
- the current interruption mechanism is configured such that a part of the current path is broken when the internal pressure of the battery reaches a predetermined value. In order to cut off the current path, an action of deforming the valve body outward of the battery is used.
- the lead led out from the electrode body is welded to the terminal plate, and the terminal plate is welded to the valve body.
- the terminal plate is provided with a thin portion as an easily breakable portion around the welded portion with the valve body.
- the valve body acts to pull the welded portion with the terminal plate to the outside of the battery, and when the battery internal pressure reaches a predetermined value, the thin portion is broken. In this way, the current path between the valve body and the terminal plate is interrupted. After the thin wall portion is broken, an annular insulating member is interposed between the valve body and the terminal plate in order to ensure insulation.
- the operating pressure of the current interrupting mechanism can be adjusted by changing the remaining thickness of the thin part formed on the terminal board.
- the operating pressure varies within a certain range.
- the operating pressure is set slightly lower to take this variation into account. If the variation in the operating pressure can be reduced, the operating pressure can be set higher. Therefore, the mechanical strength of the terminal plate can be improved, which can contribute to the improvement of the yield in the battery manufacturing process. Further, since the amount of gas generated inside the battery increases as the capacity of the sealed battery increases, a high-capacity sealed battery is required to have a current interruption mechanism that operates stably at a high operating pressure.
- the present invention has been made in view of the above, and an object of the present invention is to provide a sealed battery having a current interrupting mechanism in which variation in operating pressure is reduced.
- a sealed battery includes a bottomed cylindrical outer can that contains an electrode body and an electrolyte, a sealing body that is caulked and fixed to an opening of the outer can,
- the sealing body includes at least a valve body, a terminal plate disposed on the battery inner side of the valve body and welded to a central portion of the valve body, and each of the valve body and the terminal plate An annular insulating member interposed on the outer periphery of the welded portion, wherein the terminal plate has a welded portion formed as a melt mark during welding with the valve body, and a thin-walled portion formed around the welded portion, The distance from the outermost edge to the portion where the remaining thickness of the thin portion is the thinnest is 1 mm or less.
- the safety of the sealed battery can be improved.
- FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional perspective view of a cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to an embodiment of the present invention.
- FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view of a sealing body according to an embodiment of the present invention.
- FIG. 3 is an enlarged view of a portion A shown in FIG.
- FIG. 4 is a plan view of the sealing body according to the embodiment of the present invention as seen from the inside of the battery.
- FIG. 5 is a schematic view of an apparatus used for measuring the operating pressure.
- the electrode body 16 is accommodated inside the bottomed cylindrical outer can 20, and the sealing body 21 is caulked and fixed to the opening of the outer can 20 via the gasket 19. The inside is sealed.
- a non-aqueous electrolyte solution (not shown) is also housed inside the outer can 20 together with the electrode body 16. Most of the non-aqueous electrolyte penetrates into the electrode body 16.
- An upper insulating plate 17 and a lower insulating plate 18 are disposed above and below the electrode body 16, respectively.
- the sealing body 21, the electrode body 16, and the nonaqueous electrolyte will be described in detail.
- the sealing body 21 is configured by laminating a terminal cap 22, a valve body 23, an annular insulating member 24, and a terminal plate 25. As shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the valve body 23 and the terminal plate 25 are welded to each other so that the planar shape of the welded portion 28 is annular. An annular thin portion 26 is formed in the terminal plate 25 so as to surround the welded portion 28. The valve body 23 is also formed with an annular thin portion 27. A terminal cap 22 is placed on the valve body 23, and its flange portion is welded to the valve body 23 by laser. In this case, it is not necessary to weld the entire circumference of the flange portion, and it is sufficient to weld several points in a spot shape.
- the current interruption mechanism operates as follows.
- a vent hole is formed in the terminal plate 25, and the valve body 23 receives the pressure when the battery internal pressure rises. Therefore, the terminal plate 25 is pulled by the valve body 23 as the battery internal pressure increases, and the thin portion 26 of the terminal plate 25 breaks when the battery internal pressure reaches a predetermined value. Then, since the outer peripheral portions of the valve body 23 and the terminal plate 25 are insulated by the insulating member 24, the current path between the valve body 23 and the terminal plate 25 is interrupted. When the battery internal pressure further rises, the valve body 23 is broken starting from the thin portion 27 formed in the valve body 23, and the gas inside the battery is released to the outside. Thus, the valve body 23 functions as an explosion-proof valve.
- the valve body 23 can be a rupture plate that breaks when the battery internal pressure reaches a predetermined value. In this case, the valve body 23 functions as an explosion-proof valve without the thin portion 27.

- the cross-sectional shape of the welded portion 28 is not particularly limited, but is preferably symmetrical.
- the present invention is characterized in that the distance L from the outermost edge 28a of the welded portion 28 to the thinnest portion 26 of the thinned portion 26 is 1 mm or less.
- the said distance L is on the plane of the terminal board 25 as shown in FIG.3 and FIG.4. Refers to the distance.
- the cross-sectional shape of the thin portion 26 is not particularly limited, it can be V-shaped or U-shaped, and V-shape is particularly preferable.
