- the thumbnail request transmission unit 421 may send a thumbnail acquisition request at any time. For example, after the list display control unit 413 displays an image representing a content list on the display unit 450, the thumbnail request transmission unit 421 may transmit a thumbnail acquisition request. Further, in order to notify the thumbnail request transmission unit 421 of the transmission timing from the list display control unit 413, for example, the list display control unit 413 requests the thumbnail request transmission unit 421 to acquire a thumbnail. A signal may be transmitted. In this case, the thumbnail request transmission unit 421 transmits a thumbnail acquisition request to the content reception device 10 after receiving the control signal.
- the thumbnail request transmission unit 421 may determine whether or not the thumbnail that is the subject of the acquisition request is provided from a content provider (for example, a broadcasting station) corresponding to the thumbnail. If the thumbnail request transmission unit 421 determines that the thumbnail is provided from the content provider, the thumbnail request transmitter 421 may transmit a thumbnail acquisition request to the content provider and acquire the thumbnail from the provider. Further, when it is determined that the thumbnail is not provided from the content provider, a thumbnail acquisition request may be transmitted to the content receiving apparatus 10.
- a content provider for example, a broadcasting station
- the thumbnail request transmission unit 421 may periodically update the thumbnail displayed on the display unit 450 as an image representing a content list. Specifically, the thumbnail request transmission unit 421 receives a new thumbnail by transmitting a new thumbnail acquisition request for the thumbnail currently displayed on the display unit 450, and receives the thumbnail being displayed on the display unit 450. The description is omitted here.
- the thumbnail control unit 140D transmits the thumbnail generated in response to the thumbnail acquisition request to the display device 40 and saves it in the storage device. Then, the thumbnail control unit 140D reduces the thumbnail generation process by reading the thumbnails stored in the storage device according to the situation.
- the thumbnail control unit 140D includes a thumbnail request reception unit 141D, a thumbnail generation unit 142D, and a thumbnail transmission unit 143.

Details of the attached information will be described later with reference to FIG.
- the thumbnail generation unit 142D generates a thumbnail in the same manner as the thumbnail generation unit 142C. However, the thumbnail generation unit 142D stores the generated thumbnail in the thumbnail storage unit 146. This is different from the thumbnail generation unit 142C.
- the thumbnail storage unit 146 is an HDD, for example, but may be a semiconductor storage element or the like. A part of the storage unit 120 (not shown in FIG. 24; see FIG. 2) may be used as the thumbnail storage unit 146.
- the thumbnail request receiving unit 141D includes an information converting unit 144 and a reading unit 145.
- the thumbnail request receiving unit 141D is different from the thumbnail request receiving units 141 and 141C in that it includes a reading unit 145. Note that the information converter 144 operates substantially the same as the information converter 144 shown in FIG.

- 141D is sent to the thumbnail transmission unit 143.
- thumbnail control unit 140D may operate in the same manner as when the thumbnail corresponding to the thumbnail acquisition request is not stored in the thumbnail storage unit 146.
- thumbnail generation unit 142D does not check with the reading unit 145 whether the thumbnail corresponding to the broadcasting station specified by the specific information included in the thumbnail acquisition request is stored in the thumbnail storage unit 146.
- the operation may be performed such that the thumbnail generated by the thumbnail generation unit 142D is always sent to the thumbnail transmission unit 143.
- the thumbnail storage unit 146 when a thumbnail corresponding to the thumbnail acquisition request transmitted from the display device 40 is stored in the thumbnail storage unit 146, the thumbnail is stored in the thumbnail storage unit by the reading unit 145. The data is read from 146 and transmitted to the display device 40.
- the thumbnail generation unit 142D does not have to generate a thumbnail corresponding to the thumbnail acquisition request transmitted from the display device 40.
