Description

電池パック
 本発明は、ケースに電池セルを収容した電池パックに関する。
 互いに接続されてモジュール化された複数の電池セルを筐体に収容した電池モジュールが、例えば、特許文献1に開示されている。

 特許文献1の各電池セルは、電池セルの内部で生じた気体を電池セルの外部に排出する排出弁を備えている。しかし、電池セルから筐体の内部に気体が排出されると、筐体内の圧力が高まり筐体が破損する原因となる。
 本発明の目的は、筐体の気密性を確保しつつ筐体内の圧力が過度に上昇することを抑制し得る電池パックを提供することにある。
 上記課題を解決する電池パックは、貫通孔を有する筐体と、前記貫通孔を閉塞するように前記筐体に固定される蓋部材とを有するケースであって、前記筐体は前記貫通孔を取り囲む貫通孔周辺部を有し、前記蓋部材は前記貫通孔周辺部上にボルトによって固定され、前記ケースの内圧が上昇したときに前記蓋部材の一部が前記貫通孔周辺部から離間する方向に変形して前記ケースの内圧を開放する、前記ケースと、前記ケースの内部に収容された電池セルと、前記ケースの気密性を確保するように前記蓋部材と前記貫通孔周辺部との間に配置されるシール材と、前記蓋部材と前記貫通孔周辺部との間隔を維持するように前記蓋部材と前記貫通孔周辺部との間に配置されるスペーサと、を備える。
 上記構成によれば、シールによってケースの気密性が確保されるとともに、ケースの内圧が上昇したときには蓋部材の変形を通じてケースの内圧が開放される。
 ところで、上記構成では、ボルトの締結力によってシール材を圧縮して、ケースの気密性を確保するようにしている。しかし、ボルトの締結力によっては、シール材の圧縮率が不足してケースの気密性が不足したり、シール材が過度に圧縮されて破損したりする可能性がある。
 この点、上記構成では、ボルトを締結する際、スペーサによって蓋部材の貫通孔周辺部へ向けての移動が規制される。したがって、スペーサによってシール材の圧縮率を規定することができ、シール材の圧縮を適切に行うことができる。

 以下、電池パック10の一実施形態について説明する。
 図1Aに示すように、電池パック10は、ケース11と、ケース11に収容される複数の電池モジュール21とを備えている。各電池モジュール21は、複数の電池セル22を有している。ケース11は、矩形状の貫通孔31が設けられた筐体18と、貫通孔31を閉塞する矩形平板状の蓋部材33とを有する。
 筐体18は、四角筒状の本体12を備え、本体12は、開口と、図示しない底壁と、底壁の周縁からそれぞれ延びる4つの側壁14とを有する。筐体18は、さらに本体12の開口を閉塞する平板部材17を備えている。本体12と平板部材17とは、例えば、接着剤によって接合されている。
 図1A及び図1Bに示すように、4つの側壁14のうち、一つの側壁14には前記貫通孔31が形成されている。筐体18(具体的には、本体12の一つの側壁14)において、貫通孔31を形成する部分、言い換えれば貫通孔31を取り囲む部分を、貫通孔周辺部32と称する。貫通孔31は、貫通孔周辺部32に固定される前記蓋部材33によって閉塞されている。
 図2及び図3に示すように、貫通孔周辺部32には、複数の螺合穴34が形成され、各螺合穴34の内周面には雌ねじが形成されている。螺合穴34は、貫通孔31の両側に配置されている。具体的には、螺合穴34は、貫通孔周辺部32のうち貫通孔31の短手方向両端に対応する部分に設けられ、貫通孔31の長手方向に沿って3つずつ配列されている。蓋部材33は、螺合穴34に対応して、蓋部材33をその厚み方向に貫通する複数の挿通孔35を有している。以下の説明において、蓋部材33の4つの端部41~44のうち、対向する一対の長辺を有する端部を第1の端部41及び第2の端部42とし、対向する一対の短辺を有する端部を第3の端部43及び第4の端部44とする。
 図1A及び図1Bに示すように、挿通孔35は第1の端部41及び第2の端部42に設けられている。挿通孔35は、第1の端部41及び第2の端部42の辺(蓋部材33の長辺)に沿って3つずつ並んでおり、蓋部材33の角部には設けられていない。挿通孔35は、第3の端部43と第4の端部44とが対向する方向(第3の端部43から第4の端部44へ向かう方向)に並んでいる。つまり、挿通孔35は、蓋部材33の短手方向両端部に設けられている。第3の端部43と第4の端部44には挿通孔35が設けられていない。
 図2及び図3に示すように、蓋部材33と貫通孔周辺部32との間には、シール材36及び2個のスペーサ37が設けられている。シール材36は四角枠状をなし、蓋部材33の外周領域の全周に亘って接触することで、ケース11の気密性を確保している。各スペーサ37は、蓋部材33におけるシール材36が接触する部分よりも内周側に配置され、樹脂製であってシール材36よりも変形抵抗が高い。すなわち、各スペーサ37は、シール材36よりも内周側に位置する。両スペーサ37は、矩形平板状をなしており、蓋部材33の第1の端部41及び第2の端部42とそれぞれ対向するように、貫通孔31の両側に配置されている。つまり、両スペーサ37は、蓋部材33の第1及び第2の端部41,42と、貫通孔周辺部32との間にそれぞれ位置し、蓋部材33の長手方向に延びている。各スペーサ37には、螺合穴34及び挿通孔35に対応する、3つの挿通孔38が形成されている。各スペーサ37は、蓋部材33と貫通孔周辺部32との間隔を維持するように機能する。
 蓋部材33、両スペーサ37、及び貫通孔周辺部32は、挿通孔35と挿通孔38と螺合穴34とが一列に並ぶように配置されている。複数のボルトB1がそれぞれ、蓋部材33の挿通孔35及びスペーサ37の挿通孔38を挿通して本体12の螺合穴34に螺合されることによって、蓋部材33、シール材36及び両スペーサ37が貫通孔周辺部32に固定されている。したがって、各スペーサ37には、複数のボルトB1が挿通されている。
 図4に示すように、電池セル22(例えば、リチウムイオン二次電池、又はニッケル水素蓄電池)は、電池ケース23を備え、電池ケース23の内部には電極組立体24及び電解液25が収容されている。電池ケース23は、電極組立体24を収容し且つ開口及び底部を有する箱状のケース本体26と、ケース本体26の開口を閉塞する矩形板状の蓋27とを備えている。蓋27には、蓋27の厚み方向に貫通する孔28が形成されるとともに、この孔28には、電池ケース23の内圧が規定圧力を超えたときに開放される排出弁29が設けられている。この「規定圧力」は、電池ケース23の内圧が高まったときに、電池ケース23が破損する前に排出弁29が破断するような圧力に設定される。
 次に、本実施形態の電池パック10の作用について説明を行う。
 電池セル22に異常が生じ、排出弁29が開放されると、電池ケース23からケース11の内部に気体が排出される。電池セル22からの気体の排出に伴ってケース11の内圧が上昇する。図3に示すように、ケース11の内圧が所定圧力まで上昇した場合には、蓋部材33における第3の端部43及び第4の端部44が貫通孔周辺部32から離間する方向に変形する(図3では第4端部44の変形のみ2点鎖線で図示)。変形する部分は、具体的には、第3の端部43に最も近いボルトB1の位置から第3の端部43の辺までの部分及び、第4の端部44に最も近いボルトB1の位置から第4の端部44の辺までの部分である。すなわち、ケース11の内圧が所定圧力まで上昇した場合には、蓋部材33において、その長手方向の最も外側のボルトB1の位置よりもさらに外側の部分がそれぞれ貫通孔周辺部32から離間する方向に変形する。このように蓋部材33の一部が変形し、ケース11内の気体が放出される。この「所定圧力」は、ケース11の破損を生じさせる圧力値よりも小さい値に設定される。蓋部材33の一部を圧力開放弁として機能させることにより、ケース11の圧力開放を行うことができる。
 ボルトB1が挿通される部分に対応して、蓋部材33と貫通孔周辺部32との間に両スペーサ37が設けられているため、ボルトB1を螺合する際に、スペーサ37によってボルトB1の締結が規制される。スペーサ37の変形抵抗とシール材36の変形抵抗との関係、スペーサ37とシール材36とボルトB1との位置関係、及びスペーサ37の厚みとシール材36の厚みとの関係等から、ボルトB1の締結によって蓋部材33を介してシール材36に掛かる力を規定することができる。このため、スペーサ37の厚み、スペーサ37の変形抵抗、及びスペーサ37の配置位置を選定することによってシール材36の圧縮率を規定することができ、シール材36が過度に圧縮されたり、シール材36の圧縮が不足したりすることが抑制される。
 したがって、上記実施形態によれば、以下のような効果を得ることができる。
 (1)蓋部材33と貫通孔周辺部32との間にスペーサ37を設けている。スペーサ37によってシール材36の圧縮率を規定することができる。このため、ボルトB1を締結するときに、シール材36の圧縮が不足したり、シール材36が過度に圧縮されたりすることが抑制され、シール材36の圧縮を適切に行うことができる。
 (2)スペーサ37は、シール材36よりも変形抵抗が高いため、ボルトB1の締結を適切に規制でき、シール材36が過度に圧縮されることを抑制することができる。
 (3)蓋部材33外周領域の全周に亘ってシール材36が接触する。スペーサ37はシール材36よりも内周側に設けられる。すなわち、蓋部材33におけるシール材36が接触する部分よりも内周側にスペーサ37が配置されている。これにより、スペーサ37は、シール材36によって囲まれて、外気に晒されにくい。このため、スペーサ37が劣化することが抑制される。
 (4)各スペーサ37には、複数のボルトB1が貫通する。各ボルトB1に個別のスペーサ37を設ける場合、各ボルトB1を締結する前に対応するスペーサ37が脱落するおそれがあり、ボルトB1の締結が比較的困難となる。本実施形態のように複数のボルトB1に対して共通のスペーサ37を用いることで、容易にボルトB1を締結することができる。
 (5)樹脂製のスペーサ37を用いているため、スペーサ37が錆びない。このため、蓋部材33及び貫通孔周辺部32に固着した錆びたスペーサが蓋部材33の変形を阻害するといったことが防止される。
 (6)蓋部材33及び貫通孔周辺部32の少なくともいずれか一方に形成された環状溝にシール材(例えば、Oリング)を入れる構成が考えられる。この構成では、錆びによって蓋部材33が貫通孔周辺部32に固着し、蓋部材33の変形を阻害するおそれがある。蓋部材33と貫通孔周辺部32との間に、蓋部材33と貫通孔周辺部32との間隔を維持するようにスペーサ37が配置されることで、蓋部材33と貫通孔周辺部32との接触面積が少なくなり、蓋部材33と貫通孔周辺部32との錆びによる固着を抑止することができる。
 なお、実施形態は以下のように変更してもよい。
 ・実施形態において、スペーサ37は金属製であってもよい。この場合でも、蓋部材33の外周領域の全周に亘ってシール材36が接触することで、スペーサ37が外気に晒されにくい。よって、金属製のスペーサ37が錆びることが抑制され、蓋部材33及び貫通孔周辺部32がスペーサ37に固着することが抑制される。スペーサ37が錆びたとしても、シール材36よりも内周側にスペーサ37が配置されているので、蓋部材33の変形を比較的阻害しにくく、錆びによる固着の影響が少ない。
 ・スペーサ37は、シール材36よりも外周側に設けられていてもよい。この場合、樹脂製のスペーサ37、あるいは、金属に樹脂コーティングなどを施して錆びが生じるのを抑制したスペーサ37を用いたほうがよい。
 ・実施形態では、貫通孔31を筐体18の側壁14に設け、側壁14の貫通孔周辺部32と蓋部材33との間にシール材36及びスペーサ37を設けたが、貫通孔は、筐体18に設けられていればどのような位置に設けられていてもよい。すなわち、貫通孔を閉塞する蓋部材と貫通孔周辺部との間にシール材36及びスペーサ37が設けられていればよい。
 ・スペーサ37は、シール材36よりも変形抵抗が低い部材であってもよい。
 ・単数のボルトB1が挿通されるスペーサ37を用いてもよい。
 ・スペーサ37の形状はどのような形状でもよく、例えば、貫通孔31を囲む環状のスペーサを採用してもよい。また、スペーサ37の数は2個であることに限らず、2個より多くてもよいし、少なくてもよい。
 ・実施形態では、全てのボルトB1がスペーサ37に挿通されているが、これに限られず、一部のボルトB1がスペーサ37に挿通されていてもよい。例えば、スペーサ37に挿通されるボルトB1と、スペーサ37に挿通されないボルトB1とが交互に配置されていてもよい。また、スペーサ37には、ボルトB1が挿通されていなくてもよい。
 ・貫通孔31部及び蓋部材33の組の数を増やして、各貫通孔周辺部32とそれに対応する蓋部材33との間にシール材36及びスペーサ37を設けてもよい。

Claims (8)

  1.  貫通孔を有する筐体と、前記貫通孔を閉塞するように前記筐体に固定される蓋部材とを有するケースであって、前記筐体は前記貫通孔を取り囲む貫通孔周辺部を有し、前記蓋部材は前記貫通孔周辺部上にボルトによって固定され、前記ケースの内圧が上昇したときに前記蓋部材の一部が前記貫通孔周辺部から離間する方向に変形して前記ケースの内圧を開放する、前記ケースと、
     前記ケースの内部に収容された電池セルと、
     前記ケースの気密性を確保するように前記蓋部材と前記貫通孔周辺部との間に配置されるシール材と、
     前記蓋部材と前記貫通孔周辺部との間隔を維持するように前記蓋部材と前記貫通孔周辺部との間に配置されるスペーサと、を備える電池パック。
  2.  前記スペーサは、前記シール材よりも高い変形抵抗を有する請求項1に記載の電池パック。
  3.  前記シール材は、前記蓋部材の外周領域の全周に亘って接触するように構成される請求項1又は2に記載の電池パック。
  4.  前記シール材よりも内周側に前記スペーサが設けられる請求項1~請求項3のうちいずれか一項に記載の電池パック。
  5.  前記蓋部材における前記シール材が接触する部分よりも内周側に前記スペーサが設けられる請求項1~請求項3のうちいずれか一項に記載の電池パック。
  6.  前記スペーサには、複数のボルトが挿通される請求項1~請求項5のうちいずれか一項に記載の電池パック。
  7.  前記スペーサは、樹脂製である請求項1~請求項6のうちいずれか一項に記載の電池パック。
  8.  前記スペーサは、前記貫通孔の両側において互いに平行に延びる請求項1~請求項7のうちいずれか一項に記載の電池パック。
