Definitions
- the present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device, and more particularly, to a liquid crystal display device that controls the alignment of liquid crystal molecules by using both a vertical electric field and a horizontal electric field.
- the operation mode of the liquid crystal in the liquid crystal display device includes an operation mode using a vertical electric field and an operation mode using a horizontal electric field.
- a vertical electric field is generated between a pair of substrates arranged with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween.
- a lateral electric field is generated between electrodes of one of the pair of substrates arranged with the liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween.
- the operation mode using the vertical electric field is, for example, a TN (twisted nematic) mode or a VA (vertical alignment) mode.
- the operation mode using the lateral electric field is, for example, an IPS (in-plane switching) mode.
- Patent Document 1 describes that the alignment state in the rising response period of the liquid crystal is controlled by a vertical electric field, and the alignment state in the falling response period of the liquid crystal is controlled by a horizontal electric field.
- Patent Document 2 discloses that the liquid crystal is driven by a horizontal electric field in the image display period, and the liquid crystal is driven by a vertical electric field in the initial stage of the image non-display period.
- Patent Document 3 discloses a liquid crystal device that applies a horizontal electric field when switching from a state in which a vertical electric field is applied to a state in which no vertical electric field is applied.
- Non-Patent Document 1 proposes a configuration in which a vertical electric field and a horizontal electric field are simultaneously applied to a liquid crystal layer by four electrodes.
- This Non-Patent Document 1 introduces a V-IP drive mode in which the orientation of liquid crystal molecules is forcibly controlled by simultaneously applying a horizontal electric field and a vertical electric field to the liquid crystal. Thereby, a high-speed response is possible even at a low temperature.
- the horizontal electric field in a pixel is caused by a potential difference between a pair of electrodes formed on one glass substrate. It is formed. Therefore, the lateral electric field does not become the same lateral electric field uniformly in the normal direction of the glass substrate of the liquid crystal layer between the glass substrates. Since the horizontal electric field is not uniform in the normal direction of the glass substrate in the pixel, when one appropriate vertical electric field and one appropriate horizontal electric field are applied, depending on the balance, the liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer in the pixel The orientation direction of may have several stable states.
- the present application discloses a liquid crystal display device capable of controlling the balance between the vertical electric field and the horizontal electric field in order to perform more accurate gradation display.
- a liquid crystal display device includes an active matrix substrate having a display region in which a plurality of pixel columns formed by arranging a plurality of pixels are arranged, and a counter substrate disposed to face the active matrix substrate. Description
縦電界を利用する動作モードは、例えば、TN(twisted nematic)モードやVA(vertical alignment)モードである。横電界を利用する動作モードは、例えば、IPS(in-plane switching)モードである。

In:Ga:Zn=2:2:1、In:Ga:Zn=1:1:1、In:Ga:Zn=1:1:2等であってもよい。
Vm=(dm/dl ) × (ε_lc// / ε_m) × Vp
駆動電極32A :14.5V(正)、0.5V(負)
駆動電極32B :14.5V(正)、0.5V(負)
画素電極36 :15.0V(正)、0.0V(負)
駆動電極32A :14.5V(正)、0.5V(負)
駆動電極32B :14.5V(正)、0.5V(負)
画素電極36 :15.0V(正)、0.0V(負)
画素電極36 :11.25V(正)、3.75V(負)(正極性と負極性をフレームごとに反転)
画素電極36 :11.25V(正)、3.75V(負)(正極性と負極性をフレームごとに反転)
ΔVgd = Cgd /Σ(Clc+Cs+Co+Cgd) × (Vgh-Vgl)
ΔVgd = Cgd /Σ(Clc+Cs+Co+Cgd) × (Vgh-Vgl)
