Definitions

  • a chair where a seat and backrest as one unit can be pivoted upwards, forwards around journals in the front edge of the seat by means of a spring.
  • the chair slow down the movement when you sit down and provide lifting aid when you are to get up.
  • the chair is a great help for people that due to age or other reasons have difficult getting up and out of chairs.
  • Nor electricity or other power sources are required but the energy that is charged into the spring when you sit down is used when you are getting back up and out of the chair.
  • a drawback of the above described chair is that it normally will be higher than the armchairs of today are, preferably the front edge should be just below the knee. Nor is it possible to allow the backrests to be too much inclined backwards.
  • the object of the invention is to achieve a low and inclined sitting position for persons that may well sit in a low and inclined armchair, but can not get up from it.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a chair with a low sitting height as for an armchair or a sofa but that still can help a sitting person up from the chair and to an upright standing position.
  • This will cause the front edge of the seat to move upwards with a helping lifting movement.
  • This allows the sitting persons not only to sit level will people sitting around a sofa table or the like, but will also allow the sitting person to extend his or her legs forwards on the floor.
  • fig. 1 depicts a chair seen from the side
  • fig. 2 the chair in fig. 1 seen from the side in a perspective view
  • fig 3 a second embodiment of the invented chair seen from side.
  • the depicted chair includes a frame with two sides comprising each an armrest 6, a rear leg 4 and a forward leg 2 and a lengthwise going bar 9, which as the armrest extends between front and rear legs.
  • a crossbar bar 11 is arranged between the lower lengthwise extending bars 9 approximately locate at one third of the length of the longitudinal bars from their rear ends.
  • a lower rear crossbar 13 extends between the rear ends of the lengthwise extending bars.
  • An upper crossbar 10 is arranged a distance up between the rear legs. Between the front and rear crossbars a central bar 12 is arranged.
  • the seat part is journalled in the frame comprising a seat 1 and a backrest 2.
  • this has longitudinal extending side bars 3 that are extended forwards so that they protrude in front of the front edge of the seat 1.
  • these extended lateral bars In the front end of these extended lateral bars these are pivotally connected with each leg a distance up and on the inside of the legs so that the seat can be pivoted up from a position where its lower edge in the rear rests on the upper cross bar 10.
  • a gas spring 8 is in its upper end journalled to the backrest 2 and in its lower end in the frame of the chair. You must weigh more than the upward force of the spring and this means that you must help yourself to get up. Since we vary in weight and leg strength from person to person and sometimes us from time to time it may be necessary or desirable respectively to adjust the spring force to the weight of the user. This is not so important if it is one and the same person that is using the chair since you then from the beginning can adjust or choose the springs. Sometimes however it is desirable with this type of chairs in places where different persons may need them. Therefor the spring is in its lower end journalled in one of a number of metal- lined holes 7 arranged in the central bar 12 in the length direction of the chair.
  • the lever of your body weight on the seat is reduced and helps the spring or springs to reduce the muscle force that you have to provide yourself.
  • the spring will continue to help you up, with a simultaneous lifting of the front end of the seat and seat and backrest tilting them forward until you can stand straight or almost straight.
  • the front legs are each provided with a number of mounting holes for different levels of the seat bearing in the front end in order to adjust the seat height in the front edge.
  • the support in the rear end in the seat may also be adjustable, for instance with holes on different levels for the screws that connect the rear legs with the upper cross bar 10.
  • an additional spring advantageously a helical or spiral spring may be arranged between the seat and the frame of the chair as is shown in fig 3.
  • This spring 31 need not to extend very far but only enough to help a sitting person, and in particular a light one, a short way up from the bottom position.
  • the lever of the spring is increased increasing the lifting force provided by the gas spring and the force from the additional spring is no longer required and the gas spring 28 can continue the lifting (together with muscle force) and straightening of the person.
  • the additional spring advantageously a helical or spiral spring may be arranged between the seat and the frame of the chair as is shown in fig 3.
  • the block 30 is provided with horizontal holes in one of which a pin (not shown) may be inserted and serve as an adjustable bottom stop for the seat that is provided with corresonding contact means.
  • the additional spring can be a spiral spring that when fully compressed is essentially flat and thus easily can be inserted between the seat and the chair frame and.
  • the embodiment shown in fig. 3 has an arm 34 extending to a journalling in the front of the bottom frame 32 of the chair.
  • the arm 34 can inside the seat be fastened in different height positions in order to adjust the height of the seat in the front end.
  • the described embodiments also has the advantage that when sitting down or getting up from the chair you will stand somewhat between the armrests and you will be able to sit down and get up with an improved control and with a feeling of improved control. You can more easily reach the armrests when sitting down.
  • the armrests and the forwards protruding side beams of the seat provide lateral support and guiding if needed, improving safety and confidence. Before sitting down you can also know more certain that you have the seat behind you. You feel that you have a good control.
