Abstract
Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft eine Anzeigevorrichtung (1) mit einem Flüssigkristalldisplay (2), bei der es sich beispielsweise um ein Head-up-Display handeln kann, sowie ein Verfahren zum Schützen des Flüssigkristalldisplays (2). Die Anzeigevorrichtung (1) umfasst ein Flüssigkristalldisplay (2) zum Wiedergeben eines Bildes, ein Sensorsystem (5) zum Ermitteln einer Beleuchtungsstärke einer einfallenden optischen Strahlung (3) und zum Bestimmen eines aktuellen Sonnenstands relativ zu dem Flüssigkristalldisplay (2), eine verstellbare Abschattungsvorrichtung zum Schützen des Flüssigkristalldisplays (2) vor der einfallenden optischen Strahlung (3), sowie eine Steuereinheit (8). Die Steuereinheit (8) ist dazu eingerichtet, zu prüfen, ob die von dem Sensorsystem (5) ermittelte Beleuchtungsstärke oberhalb eines vorgegebenen Schwellwerts liegt und ob der aktuelle Sonnenstand in einen vorgegebenen Winkelbereich fällt, und abhängig von einem Ergebnis dieser Prüfung die Abschattungsvorrichtung so anzusteuern, dass sie einen Strahlengang (14) eines auf das Flüssigkristalldisplay (2) fallenden Teils der optischen Strahlung (3) unterbricht.

Anzeigevorrichtung mit einem Flüssigkristalldisplay und Ver¬ fahren zum Schützen eines Flüssigkristalldisplays
Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft eine Anzeigevorrichtung mit einem Flüssigkristalldisplay, bei der es sich zum Bei¬ spiel um ein Head-up-Display handeln kann, sowie ein Verfahren zum Schützen des Flüssigkristalldisplays einer entspre- chenden Anzeigevorrichtung vor einfallender Sonnenstrahlung.
Anzeigevorrichtungen mit Flüssigkristalldisplays sollten nicht über einen längeren Zeitraum einer direkten Einstrahlung einer intensiven optischen Strahlung, beispielsweise Sonnenstrahlung, ausgesetzt werden. Durch die auf das Flüssigkristalldisplay auftreffende Strahlung wird eine Tempera¬ tur des Flüssigkristalldisplays erhöht, und das Display kann bei einer zu großen Temperaturerhöhung seine physikalischen Eigenschaften verlieren. In diesem Fall klärt das Display, und angezeigte Bildinformationen gehen verloren. Auch wenn ein derartiger Vorgang im Allgemeinen reversibel ist, können bei längerer beziehungsweise häufigerer Belastung des Flüssigkristalldisplays irreversible Schädigungen auftreten. Bei Kraftfahrzeugen, welche über ein Head-up-Display (HUD) als Anzeigevorrichtung verfügen, können bei einem ungünstigen Sonnenstand Sonnenstrahlen durch eine Windschutzscheibe des Fahrzeugs direkt auf das Display auftreffen. Das Head-up- Display oder Frontsichtdisplay projiziert durch einen Strah- lengang ein Bild auf die als Pro ektionsfläche dienende Wind¬ schutzscheibe des Fahrzeugs, welches als virtuelles Bild von einem Fahrzeuginsassen wahrgenommen werden kann. Durch eine im Strahlengang des Head-up-Displays enthaltene Spiegeloptik wird allerdings nicht nur das Bild projiziert, sondern auch die auf das Fahrzeug auftreffende Strahlung direkt auf das
Display geleitet und auf der Displayfläche konzentriert, so¬ fern die optische Strahlung unter einem bestimmten Winkel
auftrifft. Wird das Flüssigkristalldisplay irreversibel ge¬ schädigt, beispielsweise durch langes Anhalten bei Sonnen¬ schein, kann in einem vom Head-up-Display angezeigten virtuellen Bild ein sogenannter "Bonanza-Effekt " auftreten, bei dem durch die irreversible Schädigung hervorgerufene Artefak¬ te im virtuellen Bild sichtbar bleiben.
Zur Vermeidung einer derartigen irreversiblen Schädigung eines Flüssigkristalldisplays wird bei aus dem Stand der Tech- nik bekannten Head-up-Displays beispielsweise ein Polarisati¬ onsfilter vor dem Display angebracht, welcher nur einen Anteil der einfallenden Strahlung mit einer bestimmten Polarisationsrichtung passieren lässt, wobei diese Polarisations¬ richtung einer Polarisationsrichtung des Displays entspricht. Beispielsweise kann nur s-polarisiertes Licht den Polarisati¬ onsfilter passieren. Hierdurch lässt sich die Aufheizung des Flüssigkristalldisplays reduzieren und der Zeitpunkt, ab dem der Bonanza-Effekt auftritt, wird hinausgezögert. Nachteilig daran ist, dass der Polarisationsfilter eine Leistung und Bildschärfe des Flüssigkristallbildschirms mindert und dass eine erhöhte Leistungsaufnahme mit damit verbundenen Wärme¬ verlusten erforderlich ist, um trotz Filters eine ausreichend hohe Transmission des Flüssigkristalldisplays zu erreichen. Der vorliegenden Erfindung liegt damit die Aufgabe zugrunde, eine Anzeigevorrichtung mit einem Flüssigkristalldisplay vor¬ zuschlagen, das eine Schädigung des Flüssigkristalldisplays durch zu starke Sonnenstrahlung zu vermeiden erlaubt, ohne dass dadurch eine Wiedergabequalität der Anzeigevorrichtung beeinträchtigt wird. Der Erfindung liegt ferner die Aufgabe zugrunde, ein Verfahren zum Schützen eines Flüssigkristall¬ displays zu entwickeln, mit dem sich der genannte Nachteil vermeiden lässt und das dennoch insbesondere eine irreversib¬ le Beschädigung des Flüssigkristalldisplays durch Sonnen- Strahlung sicher zu verhindern erlaubt.
Diese Aufgabe wird erfindungsgemäß gelöst durch eine Anzeige¬ vorrichtung mit den Merkmalen des Hauptanspruchs und ein Verfahren nach Anspruch 10. Die vorgeschlagene Anzeigevorrichtung umfasst ein Flüssig¬ kristalldisplay zum Wiedergeben eines Bildes, ein Sensorsys¬ tem zum Ermitteln einer Beleuchtungsstärke einer einfallenden optischen Strahlung und zum Bestimmen eines aktuellen Sonnanstands relativ zu dem Flüssigkristalldisplay, eine verstell- bare Abschattungsvorrichtung zum Schützen des Flüssigkristalldisplays vor der einfallenden optischen Strahlung sowie eine Steuereinheit. Der Begriff "optische Strahlung" soll da¬ bei nicht nur sichtbares Licht mit einer Wellenlänge von 400 nm bis 780 nm bezeichnen können, sondern auch infrarotes Licht und/oder ultraviolettes Licht. Die Steuereinheit ist eingerichtet, zu prüfen, ob die von dem Sensorsystem ermit¬ telte Beleuchtungsstärke oberhalb eines vorgegebenen Schwell¬ werts liegt und ob der aktuelle Sonnenstand in einen vorgege¬ benen Winkelbereich fällt. Die Steuereinheit ist weiter ein- gerichtet, die Abschattungsvorrichtung abhängig von einem Ergebnis dieser Prüfung so anzusteuern, dass die Abschattungs¬ vorrichtung einen Strahlengang eines auf das Flüssigkristalldisplay fallenden Teils der optischen Strahlung unterbricht und somit das Flüssigkristalldisplay vor einer Beschädigung schützt.
Die Beleuchtungsstärke und der aktuelle Sonnenstand sind zwei einfach zu bestimmende Parameter, die anzeigen, ob überhaupt eine für eine Schädigung des Flüssigkristalldisplays ausrei- chende Intensität der optischen Strahlung vorliegt und ob diese Strahlung auf das Flüssigkristalldisplay auftrifft. Durch Prüfung dieser Parameter durch die Steuereinheit kann somit zuverlässig festgestellt werden, ob das Flüssigkris¬ talldisplay geschädigt werden kann. Die abhängig von dem Er- gebnis der Prüfung erfolgende Ansteuerung der Abschattungs¬ vorrichtung zum Schützen des Flüssigkristalldisplays erlaubt es, die Anzeigevorrichtung normal zu betreiben, solange eine
Gefahr der Beschädigung des Flüssigkristalldisplays ausge¬ schlossen ist, und somit auch auf von vornherein vorgesehene Schutzmechanismen, die einen Normalbetrieb beeinträchtigen, zu verzichten, allerdings dennoch das Flüssigkristalldisplay bei Gefahr der Beschädigung zu schützen und eine Bildwiedergabe zu unterbrechen, falls ohnehin mit einer Störung der Bildwiedergabe durch das ausfallende Flüssigkristalldisplay zu rechnen ist. Vorteilhafte Weiterbildungen werden in den Unteransprüchen beschrieben .
Der vorgegebene Winkelbereich des Sonnenstands kann diejenigen Winkel umfassen, bei denen die optische Strahlung direkt auf das Flüssigkristalldisplay fällt. Der vorgegebene
Schwellwert ist vorzugsweise definiert durch den Wert der Be¬ leuchtungsstärke, ab dem eine irreversible Schädigung des Flüssigkristalldisplays bei Bestrahlung mit der auftreffenden optischen Strahlung auftritt.
Die Abschattungsvorrichtung ist vorzugsweise zwischen einem aktivierten Zustand, in dem sie den genannten Strahlengang unterbricht, und einem nicht aktivierten Zustand verstellbar. Die Steuereinheit kann dann eingerichtet sein, die Abschat- tungsvorrichtung genau dann zu aktivieren, wenn eine in Abhängigkeit von dem Ergebnis der genannten Prüfung definierte Bedingung erfüllt ist. Durch eine geeignete Definition der Bedingung lässt sich damit erreichen, dass der Strahlengang erst dann unterbrochen wird, wenn ohnehin eine vorübergehende oder irreversible Beschädigung des Flüssigkristalldisplays zu erwarten ist und somit die Bildwiedergabe gestört oder unter¬ brochen würde. Diese Bedingung kann derart sein, dass nur bei Vorliegen beider genannter Voraussetzungen, also wenn die ermittelte Beleuchtungsstärke oberhalb des Schwellwerts liegt und die Sonne in einem bestimmten Winkel steht, das Flüssig¬ kristalldisplay geschützt und die Wiedergabe des Bildes un¬ terbrochen wird, sodass eine zu frühe Unterbrechung des
Strahlengangs und somit der Bildwiedergabe verhindert wird. Die Bedingung kann auch das Eintreten zusätzlicher Umstände fordern, beispielsweise ein Überschreiten einer kritischen Temperatur .
In einer Ausführungsform kann dementsprechend vorgesehen sein, dass die Anzeigevorrichtung einen in oder an dem Flüssigkristalldisplay angebrachten oder in einer Umgebung des Flüssigkristalldisplays angeordneten Temperatursensor auf- weist, welcher eine Temperatur des Flüssigkristalldisplays oder einer Umgebung des Flüssigkristalldisplays misst. Die Steuereinheit kann hierbei so eingerichtet sein, die Abschat- tungsvorrichtung erst dann zu aktivieren, wenn die von dem Temperatursensor gemessene Temperatur einen vorgegebenen Schwellwert überschreitet. Die genannte Bedingung ist dann also so definiert, dass sie ein Überschreiten einer durch den Schwellwert gegebenen Grenztemperatur verlangt. Durch den geeignet vorgegebenen Schwellwert der Temperatur, die vorzugs¬ weise direkt an dem temperaturempfindlichen Flüssigkristall- display gemessen wird, wird das Flüssigkristalldisplay erst bei einer unmittelbar bevorstehenden Beschädigung unterbrochen, so dass die Bildwiedergabe noch bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt gegeben ist. Das Sensorsystem kann darüber hinaus eine Recheneinheit um¬ fassen, die eingerichtet ist, den aktuellen Sonnenstand aus einem Datum, einer Uhrzeit, einem Aufenthaltsort und einer Himmelsrichtung zu berechnen. Durch die Berechnung kann eine komplizierte Messung des Sonnenstands vermieden werden, zumal aus den genannten Parametern der aktuelle Sonnenstand zuverlässig und eindeutig berechenbar ist. Vorzugsweise sind der Aufenthaltsort und die Himmelsrichtung durch Geopositionsda- ten, besonders vorzugsweise GPS-Daten, definiert. Durch die Verwendung von GPS-Daten wird eine präzise und einfache Be- Stimmung des Aufenthaltsorts und der Himmelrichtung, in die die Anzeigevorrichtung ausgerichtet ist, ermöglicht.
In einer vorteilhaft einfach realisierbaren Ausführung um- fasst die Abschattungsvorrichtung eine zum Unterbrechen des Strahlengangs vor das Flüssigkristalldisplay und beziehungs¬ weise oder in den genannten Strahlengang klappbare Blende. Alternativ oder zusätzlich kann die Abschattungsvorrichtung einen in dem genannten Strahlengang der einfallenden optischen Strahlung angeordneten und zum Abbilden der auf dem Flüssigkristalldisplay wiedergegebenen Bilder dienenden schwenkbaren Spiegel umfassen. Durch die Verwendung des ohne- hin im Strahlengang der Anzeigevorrichtung angeordneten Spiegels als Abschattungsvorrichtung oder Teil der Abschattungsvorrichtung wird somit erreicht, dass auf zusätzliche Bautei¬ le weitestgehend verzichtet werden kann. Durch ein Verkippen des Spiegels kann daher in sehr einfacher Weise der Strahlen- gang unterbrochen und das Flüssigkristalldisplay vor auftref¬ fender optischer Strahlung geschützt werden.
Die Anzeigevorrichtung ist vorzugsweise ein Head-up-Display . Bei einem Head-up-Display ist das Flüssigkristalldisplay in der Regel einer direkten Aufsicht durch einen Benutzer entzogen, sodass auch auf das Flüssigkristalldisplay auftreffende Strahlung unbemerkt bleibt. Daher ist es bei Anzeigevorrichtungen dieser Art besonders günstig, eine automatisch akti¬ vierbare Schutzvorrichtung für derartige Displaytypen vorzu- sehen.
Es kann außerdem vorgesehen sein, dass das Sensorsystem oder ein Teil davon räumlich separiert von dem Flüssigkristalldis¬ play angebracht ist. Durch die räumliche Separierung von Sen- sorsystem und Flüssigkristalldisplay können bereits vorhande¬ ne SensorSysteme für die Anzeigevorrichtung verwendet werden, beispielsweise ein Helligkeitssensor, der als Tag-Nacht- Sensor für eine automatische Ansteuerung von Scheinwerfern und Rückleuchten vorgegeben sein kann. So kann die beschrie- bene Anzeigevorrichtung mit minimalem Mehraufwand realisiert werden. Vorzugsweise ist das Sensorsystem zur Übermittlung der ermittelten Beleuchtungsstärke über ein Bussystem, beson-
ders vorzugsweise über ein CAN-Bussystem, mit der Steuereinheit verbunden. Derartige Bussysteme weisen den Vorteil auf, einen Datenaustausch schnell und ohne große Konfigurations¬ probleme zu ermöglichen. Darüber hinaus können somit in ein- facher Art und Weise bereits vorhandene Sensorsysteme, die die Daten über ein Bussystem bereitstellen, in die Anzeigevorrichtung eingebunden werden. Ein CAN-Bussystem ist ein gängiges Bussystem im Kraftfahrzeugbereich. In vorteilhafter Weise umfasst ein Fahrzeug, vorzugsweise ein Kraftfahrzeug wie ein Automobil oder ein Lastkraftwagen, die Anzeigevorrichtung mit den beschriebenen Eigenschaften. In Fahrzeugen ist die Gefahr der Schädigung des Flüssigkristalldisplays durch längeres Fahren oder Anhalten bei Sonnenschein besonders hoch, so dass hier die Anzeigevorrichtung vorteil¬ haft eingesetzt werden kann.
In einer vorteilhaften Weiterbildung kann vorgesehen sein, dass das Sensorsystem oder ein Teil des Sensorsystems, mit dem die Beleuchtungsstärke gemessen wird, auf einer Instru¬ mententafel und bzw. oder unter einer Windschutzscheibe des Fahrzeugs angeordnet ist. Hier kann in einfacher Weise die einfallende Strahlung detektiert werden, da keine abschatten¬ den Gegenstände im Weg sind. Sofern die Anzeigevorrichtung ein Head-up-Display ist, wird die Windschutzscheibe als Pro¬ jektionsfläche beziehungsweise als halbdurchlässiger Spiegel zum Abbilden der wiedergegebenen Bilder benutzt, so dass die auf die Windschutzscheibe auftreffende optische Strahlung durch den Strahlengang der Anzeigevorrichtung auf das Flüs- sigkristalldisplay gelangen kann. Das Sensorsystem an dieser Stelle anzubringen, bietet daher in diesem Fall den Vorteil, dass die Beleuchtungsstärke dort gemessen wird, wo auch die bis zum Flüssigkristalldisplay geleitete Strahlung auftrifft. Ein entsprechend vorteilhaftes Verfahren zum Schützen eines Flüssigkristalldisplays einer Anzeigevorrichtung vor einfal¬ lender Sonnenstrahlung umfasst folgende Schritte:
Ermitteln einer Beleuchtungsstärke einer in einer Umgebung der Anzeigevorrichtung auftreffenden Sonnenstrahlung;
Bestimmen eines aktuellen Sonnenstands relativ zu dem Flüssigkristalldisplay; Übermitteln der ermittelten Beleuchtungs- stärke und des bestimmten aktuellen Sonnenstands an eine
Steuereinheit und Prüfen durch die Steuereinheit, ob die er¬ mittelte Beleuchtungsstärke oberhalb eines vorgegebenen
Schwellwerts der Beleuchtungsstärke liegt und ob der aktuelle Sonnenstand in einen vorgegebenen Winkelbereich fällt; abhän- gig von einem Ergebnis der Prüfung automatisches Unterbrechen eines Strahlengangs eines auf das Flüssigkristalldisplay fal¬ lenden Teils der Sonnenstrahlung durch eine von der Steuereinheit angesteuerte Abschattungsvorrichtung . Durch das Ermitteln der Beleuchtungsstärke kann überprüft werden, ob die Beleuchtungsstärke groß genug ist, um das Flüssigkristalldisplay zu beschädigen oder zu gefährden, während sich durch das Bestimmen des aktuellen Sonnenstands relativ zu dem Flüssigkristalldisplay ermitteln lässt, ob das Flüssigkristalldisplay überhaupt von einem Teil der einfal¬ lenden Sonnenstrahlung getroffen wird. So ist es möglich, das Flüssigkristalldisplay nur dann vor der auftreffenden Sonnenstrahlung durch die von der Steuereinheit angesteuerte Ab¬ schattungsvorrichtung zu schützen, und somit eine Bildwieder- gäbe durch die Anzeigevorrichtung möglichst lange zu gewährleisten .
In einer vorteilhaften Weiterbildung wird der aktuelle Sonnenstand durch eine Recheneinheit aus einem Datum, einer Uhr- zeit, einem Aufenthaltsort und einer Himmelrichtung berechnet. Hierdurch entfällt ein aufwändiges direktes Messen des Sonnenstands, während dennoch eine zuverlässige Bestimmung des Sonnenstands möglich ist. Vorzugsweise werden der Aufent¬ haltsort und die Himmelsrichtung aus Geopositionsdaten, be- sonders vorzugsweise GPS-Daten, berechnet. Geopositionsdaten erlauben eine einfache Bestimmung der genannten Parameter.
Das Verfahren kann außerdem vorsehen, dass eine Temperatur des Flüssigkristalldisplays durch einen Temperatursensor ermittelt wird und das automatische Unterbrechen des Strahlen¬ gangs der einfallenden optischen Strahlung erst bei einem Überschreiten eines vorgegebenen Schwellwerts der Temperatur erfolgt. Der Schwellwert kann z. B. so definiert werden, dass der Strahlengang erst bei einem Überschreiten einer Grenztemperatur, ab der eine vorübergehende oder irreversible Schädi¬ gung des Flüssigkristalldisplays eintritt oder droht, unter- brochen wird und die Bildwiedergabe folglich so lange wie möglich aufrechterhalten wird.
Das Verfahren kann vorteilhaft mit der zuvor beschriebenen Anzeigevorrichtung durchgeführt werden.
Ausführungsbeispiele der Erfindung sind in den Figuren 1 bis 3 dargestellt und werden nachfolgend anhand dreier Figuren erläutert. Es zeigen: Fig. 1 eine schematische Darstellung einer Anzeigevorrichtung mit auf ein Flüssigkristalldisplay auftreffen¬ der optischer Strahlung,
Fig. 2 ein Ablaufdiagramm eines Verfahrens zum Schützen eines Flüssigkristalldisplays und
Fig. 3 ein Ablaufdiagramm einer weiteren Ausführungsform des Verfahrens zum Schützen eines Flüssigkristall¬ displays .
In Fig. 1 ist in schematischer Darstellung eine Anzeigevorrichtung 1 mit auf ein Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 auftreffender optischer Strahlung 3, bei der es sich um Sonnenstrahlung handelt, dargestellt. Die Anzeigevorrichtung 1 ist ein Head- up-Display, welches in einem nur durch eine Windschutzscheibe 4 angedeuteten Fahrzeug angeordnet ist. Die Anzeigevorrichtung 1 umfasst neben dem Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 ein Sensor-
System 5, welches unterhalb der Windschutzscheibe 4 auf einer Instrumententafel des Fahrzeugs angebracht ist, sowie eine verstellbare Abschattungsvorrichtung, welche einen Strahlengang 7 der Anzeigevorrichtung 1 unterbrechen kann. Die Ab- schattungsvorrichtung ist im dargestellten Ausführungsbeispiel eine Blende 6 aus Kunststoff, welche um eine Drehachse 6b klappbar ist. Außerdem umfasst die Anzeigevorrichtung 1 eine Steuereinheit 8. Das Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 ist im in Fig. 1 dargestellten Ausführungsbeispiel ein TFT-Display, al- so ein Display, welches Dünnschichttransistoren (thin-film- transistor) umfasst.
Das Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 gibt ein Bild wieder, welches durch den Strahlengang 7 auf die Windschutzscheibe 4 proji- ziert wird. Im Strahlengang 7 ist hierzu ein flacher Spiegel 9, welcher eine Aluminiumschicht als spiegelnde Fläche auf¬ weist, sowie ein asphärischer Spiegel 10 enthalten, welcher ebenfalls eine Aluminiumschicht als spiegelnde Fläche auf¬ weist und verschwenkbar sowie zur Größenanpassung des auf die Windschutzscheibe 4 projizierten Bildes asphärisch gewölbt ist. Ein Fahrzeuginsasse 11 nimmt somit das auf die Wind¬ schutzscheibe 4 projizierte Bild als ein virtuelles Bild 12 wahr, das einer realen Fahrzeugumgebung überlagert ist und beispielsweise Richtungsinformationen eines in Fig. 1 nicht dargestellten Navigationsgeräts anzeigen kann. Ganz allgemein kann es sich bei der Anzeigevorrichtung 1 um ein Anzeigegerät eines Fahrassistenzsystems handeln.
Die optische Strahlung 3 geht von der Sonne 13 aus und wird zumindest teilweise durch einen Strahlengang 14 über den asphärischen Spiegel 10 und den flachen Spiegel 9 auf das Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 geleitet. Der Strahlengang 14 der Sonnenstrahlung liegt nach Passieren der Windschutzscheibe 4 mit dem Strahlengang 7 der Anzeigevorrichtung 1 in Deckung.
Die optische Strahlung 3 trifft auch auf das Sensorsystem 5, welches eine Beleuchtungsstärke der optischen Strahlung 3 so-
wie einen aktuellen Sonnenstand relativ zu dem Flüssigkris¬ talldisplay 2 ermittelt. Das Sensorsystem 5 umfasst zum Er¬ mitteln der Beleuchtungsstärke im dargestellten Ausführungs¬ beispiel ein Photometer 5a, welches durch einen CCD-Detektor oder mindestens eine Photodiode gegeben ist. Im dargestellten Ausführungsbeispiel umfasst das Sensorsystem 5 außerdem eine Recheneinheit 15, welche eingerichtet ist, den aktuellen Son¬ nenstand zu berechnen. Hierzu wird ein Datum, eine Uhrzeit, ein Aufenthaltsort des Fahrzeugs und eine Himmelsrichtung, in die das Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 mit einer Anzeigefläche zeigt, verwendet. Der Aufenthaltsort und die Himmelsrichtung, die sich aus einer Fahrtrichtung des Fahrzeugs ergibt, werden durch GPS-Daten ermittelt, die entweder durch einen GPS- Empfänger im Sensorsystem 5 oder von einem an anderer Stelle im Fahrzeug vorhandenen GPS-Empfänger , welcher z. B. in dem
Navigationssystem enthalten ist, empfangen und an die Recheneinheit 15 über ein Bussystem übermittelt werden. Statt GPS- Daten können selbstverständlich auch andere Geopositionsdaten verwendet werden, beispielsweise Daten des Galileo-Systems oder des GLONASS-Systems .
Das Sensorsystem 5 ist räumlich separiert vom Flüssigkris¬ talldisplay 2 angebracht und übermittelt die ermittelte Be¬ leuchtungsstärke und den aktuellen Sonnenstand über ein CAN- Bussystem 16 an die Steuereinheit 8. Das Photometer 5a und die Recheneinheit 15 können ebenfalls räumlich voneinander separiert sein, im in Fig. 1 dargestellten Ausführungsbeispiel befinden sich beide Bauteile unterhalb der Windschutz¬ scheibe 4. Bei dem Photometer 5a des Sensorsystems 5 kann es sich auch um einen ohnehin im Fahrzeug vorgesehenen Sensor handeln, beispielsweise um einen Sensor einer Klimaanlage oder einer automatischen FahrzeuglichtSteuerung .
Die Steuereinheit 8, welche im oder am Head-up-Display ange- ordnet, aber auch Bestandteil eines Bordcomputers oder eines in der Instrumententafel angeordneten Kombinationsinstruments sein kann, prüft, ob die von dem Sensorsystem 5 ermittelte
Beleuchtungsstärke oberhalb eines vorgegebenen Schwellwerts liegt und ob der aktuelle Sonnenstand in einen vorgegebenen Winkelbereich fällt. Der vorgegebene Schwellwert der Beleuch¬ tungsstärke ist so gewählt, dass bei auf das Flüssigkristall- display 2 auftreffender optischer Strahlung 3, deren Beleuchtungsstärke oberhalb dieses Schwellwerts liegt, eine irrever¬ sible oder zumindest vorübergehende Schädigung des Flüssig¬ kristalldisplays 2 auftritt oder droht. Der vorgegebene Win¬ kelbereich ist definiert als alle möglichen Sonnenstände um- fassend, bei denen Sonnenstrahlung auf das Flüssigkristall¬ display 2 treffen kann. In der in Fig. 1 dargestellten Ausführungsform ist überdies am Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 ein Temperatursensor 17 angebracht, welcher eine Temperatur des Flüssigkristalldisplays 2 misst. Der Temperatursensor 17 kann auch im Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 angebracht sein und dort die Innentemperatur messen. Die gemessene Temperatur wird ebenfalls an die Steuereinheit 8 übermittelt und darauf hin ge¬ prüft, ob sie einen vorgegebenen Grenzwert überschreitet. In Abhängigkeit von einem Ergebnis dieser Prüfung steuert die Steuereinheit 8 die Abschattungsvorrichtung, im dargestellten Ausführungsbeispiel also die Blende 6, so an, dass diese vor das Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 geklappt wird und den Strahlen¬ gang 7 der Anzeigevorrichtung 1 und damit auch den Strahlen- gang 14 der einfallenden optischen Strahlung 3 unterbricht und somit das Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 schützt. Die Blende 6 wird dazu von einem nicht aktivierten Zustand, in dem der Strahlengang 14 nicht unterbrochen ist, durch die Steuereinheit 8 genau dann in einen aktivierten Zustand 6a gebracht, in dem sie vor dem Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 liegt und den Strahlengang 14 unterbricht, wenn eine in Abhängigkeit vom Ergebnis der genannten Prüfung definierte Bedingung erfüllt ist. Diese Bedingung ist so definiert, dass sie genau dann erfüllt ist, wenn die Beleuchtungsstärke oberhalb des
Schwellwerts liegt, der aktuelle Sonnenstand in dem genannten Winkelbereich liegt und die mit dem Temperatursensor 17 gemessene Temperatur den genannten Grenzwert, also eine vorge-
gebene Grenztemperatur, überschreitet. Wenn diese Bedingung erfüllt ist, dann aktiviert die Steuereinheit 8 die Blende 6, das heißt, die Blende 6 schwenkt in den Strahlengang 14 der einfallenden optischen Strahlung 3. Der aktivierte Zustand 6a der Blende 6 ist in Fig. 1 durch eine gestrichelte Linie ge¬ zeigt. Die Blende 6 wird hierzu um die Drehachse 6b ge¬ schwenkt .
Statt der Blende 6 oder zusätzlich zu der Blende 6 kann der asphärische Spiegel 10 als Abschattungsvorrichtung oder Teil der Abschattungsvorrichtung vorgesehen sein und zum Unterbrechen de Strahlengangs 7 in eine gestrichelt eingezeichnete Position 10a verkippt werden, so dass der Strahlengang 14 der einfallenden optischen Strahlung 3 sowie der Strahlengang 7 der Anzeigevorrichtung 1 unterbrochen ist.
Vor dem Unterbrechen des Strahlengangs 14 durch die Steuereinheit 8 kann auf einem in Fig. 1 nicht dargestellten Bordcomputer oder auf dem Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 selbst ein Warnhinweis für den Fahrzeuginsassen 11 ausgegeben werden, dass die Bildwiedergabe in Kürze unterbunden wird, um die Be¬ schädigung des Flüssigkristalldisplays 2 zu verhindern.
Fig. 2 stellt ein Ablaufdiagramm eines Verfahrens zum Schüt- zen des Flüssigkristalldisplays 2 der Anzeigevorrichtung 1 dar. Das Verfahren umfasst zunächst als einen Schritt 18 ein Ermitteln der Beleuchtungsstärke der in einer Umgebung der Anzeigevorrichtung 1 auftreffenden Sonnenstrahlung mit dem Photometer 5a des Sensorsystems 5. Weiter wird in einem
Schritt 19 durch Auswertung von GPS-Daten mit der Recheneinheit 15 der aktuelle Sonnenstand relativ zu dem Flüssigkris¬ talldisplay 2 bestimmt. Die ermittelte Beleuchtungsstärke und der ermittelte Sonnenstand werden in einem weiteren Schritt 20 an die Steuereinheit 8 übermittelt. Die Steuereinheit 8 führt eine Prüfung 21 durch, ob die ermittelte Beleuchtungs¬ stärke oberhalb eines vorgegebenen Schwellwerts der Beleuch¬ tungsstärke liegt und der aktuelle Sonnenstand in den vorge-
gebenen Winkelbereich fällt, mithin also das Flüssigkeitsdis¬ play 2 durch die auftreffende optische Strahlung 3 beschädigt werden kann. In Abhängigkeit von dem Ergebnis der Prüfung wird in Schritt 22 je nach Ergebnis automatisch der Strahlen- gang 14 des auf das Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 auftreffenden
Teils der optischen Strahlung 3 unterbrochen, indem die Steuereinheit 8 die Abschattungsvorrichtung so ansteuert, dass diese in den aktivierten Zustand 6a wechselt, oder nicht. Das automatische Unterbrechen des Strahlengangs 14 erfolgt hier- bei, wenn die ermittelte Beleuchtungsstärke den vorgegebenen Schwellwert übersteigt und der aktuelle Sonnenstand in den vorgegebenen Winkelbereich fällt. Wird der Schwellwert unterschritten oder fällt der aktuelle Sonnenstand nicht in den vorgegebenen Winkelbereich, führt die Prüfung 21 also zu ei- nem negativen Ergebnis, unternimmt die Steuereinheit 8 nichts, das heißt, in Schritt 23 wird der Strahlengang 14 nicht unterbrochen und die Abschattungsvorrichtung verbleibt im ursprünglichen nicht aktivierten Zustand. Dementsprechend wird die Abschattungsvorrichtung wieder in den nicht akti- vierten Zustand zurückgeschwenkt, sobald die vorher eingetre¬ tene Bedingung nicht mehr erfüllt ist.
Der aktuelle Sonnenstand wird bei dem in Fig. 2 dargestellten Verfahren durch die Recheneinheit 15 aus dem Datum, der Uhr- zeit, dem Aufenthaltsort und der Himmelsrichtung berechnet, wobei der Aufenthaltsort und die Himmelsrichtung aus GPS- Daten berechnet werden. Die Himmelsrichtung kann dabei als aktuelle Orientierung des Flüssigkristalldisplays 2 oder durch die Fahrzeuglängsachse definiert sein. Alternativ kann der Sonnenstand auch gemessen werden.
Das Verfahren kann sowohl bei der Bildwiedergabe durch die Anzeigevorrichtung 1 durchgeführt werden, als auch wenn diese ausgeschaltet ist und kein Bild anzeigt. Das Verfahren wird in Echtzeit mit einer Taktzeit von 10 ms durchgeführt, so dass das Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 permanent überwacht wird.
Es kann vorgesehen sein, dass die Steuereinheit 8 zusätzlich prüft, ob die Beleuchtungsstärke über einen vorgegebenen Zeitraum den Schwellwert überschreitet und/oder der aktuelle Sonnenstand während des vorgegebenen Zeitraums in den vorge- gebenen Winkelbereich fällt. Das automatische Unterbrechen des Strahlengangs 14 wird in diesem Fall erst dann veran¬ lasst, wenn diese Bedingung zumindest für ein den genannten Zeitraum entsprechende Dauer erfüllt ist. Fig. 3 stellt eine weitere Ausführungsform des Verfahrens zum Schützen des Flüssigkristalldisplays 2 wiederum als Ablauf¬ diagramm dar. Das Ablaufdiagramm entspricht hierbei dem in Fig. 2 dargestellten, allerdings wird nun, wie zuvor im Zusammenhang mit Fig. 1 beschrieben, neben dem Sonnenstand und der Beleuchtungsstärke in einem zusätzlichen Schritt 24 die
Temperatur des Flüssigkristalldisplays 2 durch den am oder im Flüssigkristalldisplay 2 angebrachten Temperatursensor 17 ermittelt. Das automatische Unterbrechen des Strahlengangs 14 der einfallenden optischen Strahlung 3 erfolgt dann aufgrund einer entsprechenden Programmierung der Steuereinheit 8 erst dann, wenn ein vorgegebener Schwellwert der Temperatur überschritten ist sowie die Beleuchtungsstärke ober halb des Schwellwerts und der aktuelle Sonnenstand in dem vorgegebenen Winkelbereich liegt. Die in den Figuren 2 und 3 veranschau- lichten Verfahren können mit der in Fig. 1 dargestellten Anzeigevorrichtung 1 durchgeführt werden. Bei einer Abwandlung des Verfahrens aus Fig. 3 kann es vorgesehen sein, dass die Temperatur erst über einen bestimmten Zeitraum den Schwellwert überschreiten muss, bevor das automatische Unterbrechen des Strahlengangs 14 veranlasst wird.
Claims
Anzeigevorrichtung (1), umfassend ein Flüssigkristall¬ display (2) zum Wiedergeben eines Bildes, ein Sensorsys¬ tem (5) zum Ermitteln einer Beleuchtungsstärke einer einfallenden optischen Strahlung (3) und zum Bestimmen eines aktuellen Sonnenstands relativ zu dem Flüssigkris¬ talldisplay (2), eine verstellbare Abschattungsvorrich¬ tung zum Schützen des Flüssigkristalldisplays (2) vor der einfallenden optischen Strahlung (3) sowie eine Steuereinheit (8), die eingerichtet ist, zu prüfen, ob die von dem Sensorsystem (5) ermittelte Beleuchtungs¬ stärke oberhalb eines vorgegebenen Schwellwerts liegt und ob der aktuelle Sonnenstand in einen vorgegebenen Winkelbereich fällt, und abhängig von einem Ergebnis dieser Prüfung die Abschattungsvorrichtung so anzusteuern, dass sie einen Strahlengang (14) eines auf das Flüssigkristalldisplay (2) fallenden Teils der optischen Strahlung (3) unterbricht.
Anzeigevorrichtung (1) nach Anspruch 1, d a d u r c h g e k e n n z e i c h n e t , dass die Abschattungsvor¬ richtung zwischen einem aktivierten Zustand (6a), in dem sie den genannten Strahlengang (14) unterbricht, und einem nicht aktivierten Zustand verstellbar ist, wobei die Steuereinheit (8) eingerichtet ist, die Abschattungsvor¬ richtung genau dann zu aktivieren, wenn eine in Abhängigkeit vom Ergebnis der genannten Prüfung definierte Bedingung erfüllt ist.
Anzeigevorrichtung (1) nach Anspruch 1 oder Anspruch 2, d a d u r c h g e k e n n z e i c h n e t , dass die An¬ zeigevorrichtung (1) einen in oder an dem Flüssigkristalldisplay (2) angebrachten Temperatursensor (17) zum Messen einer Temperatur des Flüssigkristalldisplays (2) aufweist, wobei die Steuereinheit (8) so eingerichtet ist, die Abschattungsvorrichtung erst dann zu aktivie-
ren, wenn die von dem Temperatursensor (17) gemessene Temperatur einen vorgegebenen Schwellwert überschreitet.
Anzeigevorrichtung (1) nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, d a d u r c h g e k e n n z e i c h n e t , dass das Sensorsystem (5) eine Recheneinheit (15) um- fasst, die eingerichtet ist, den aktuellen Sonnenstand aus einem Datum, einer Uhrzeit, einem Aufenthaltsort und einer Himmelsrichtung zu berechnen, wobei vorzugsweise der Aufenthaltsort und die Himmelsrichtung durch Geopo- sitionsdaten, besonders vorzugsweise GPS-Daten, defi¬ niert sind.
Anzeigevorrichtung (1) nach einem der vorhergehenden An Sprüche, d a d u r c h g e k e n n z e i c h n e t , dass die Abschattungsvorrichtung eine vor das Flüssigkristalldisplay (2) und/oder in den genannten Strahlengang (14) klappbare Blende (6) und/oder einen in dem ge nannten Strahlengang (14) der einfallenden optischen Strahlung (3) angeordneten und zum Abbilden der auf dem Flüssigkristalldisplay (2) wiedergegebenen Bilder die¬ nenden schwenkbaren Spiegel (10) umfasst.
Anzeigevorrichtung (1) nach einem der vorhergehenden An Sprüche, d a d u r c h g e k e n n z e i c h n e t , dass die Anzeigevorrichtung (1) ein Head-up-Display ist
Anzeigevorrichtung (1) nach einem der vorhergehenden An Sprüche, d a d u r c h g e k e n n z e i c h n e t , dass das Sensorsystem (5) räumlich separiert von dem Flüssigkristalldisplay (2) angebracht ist, wobei das Sensorsystem (5) zur Übermittlung der ermittelten Beleuchtungsstärke vorzugsweise über ein Bussystem, beson ders vorzugsweise über ein CAN-Bussystem (16), mit der Steuereinheit (8) verbunden ist.
Fahrzeug, umfassend eine Anzeigevorrichtung (1) nach ei¬ nem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche.
Fahrzeug nach Anspruch 8, d a d u r c h g e k e n n z e i c h n e t , dass das Sensorsystem (5) auf einer Instrumententafel und/oder unter einer Windschutzscheibe (4) des Fahrzeugs angeordnet ist.
Verfahren zum Schützen eines Flüssigkristalldisplays (2) einer Anzeigevorrichtung (1) vor einfallender Sonnenstrahlung mit folgenden Schritten:
- Ermitteln (18) einer Beleuchtungsstärke einer in einer Umgebung der Anzeigevorrichtung (1) auftreffenden Sonnenstrahlung;
- Bestimmen (19) eines aktuellen Sonnenstands relativ zu dem Flüssigkristalldisplay (2);
- Übermitteln (20) der ermittelten Beleuchtungsstärke und des bestimmten aktuellen Sonnenstands an eine Steuereinheit (8) und Prüfen (21) durch die Steuereinheit (8), ob die ermittelte Beleuchtungsstärke ober¬ halb eines vorgegebenen Schwellwerts der Beleuchtungs¬ stärke liegt und ob der aktuelle Sonnenstand in einen vorgegebenen Winkelbereich fällt;
- abhängig von einem Ergebnis der Prüfung automatisches Unterbrechen (22) eines Strahlengangs (14) eines auf das Flüssigkristalldisplay (2) fallenden Teils der Sonnenstrahlung durch eine von der Steuereinheit (8) angesteuerte AbschattungsVorrichtung .
Verfahren nach Anspruch 10, d a d u r c h g e k e n n z e i c h n e t , dass der aktuelle Sonnenstand durch eine Recheneinheit (15) aus einem Datum, einer Uhrzeit, einem Aufenthaltsort und einer Himmelsrichtung berechnet wird, wobei vorzugsweise der Aufenthaltsort und die Him¬ melsrichtung aus Geopositionsdaten, besonders vorzugsweise GPS-Daten, berechnet werden.
Verfahren nach Anspruch 10 oder Anspruch 11, d a d u r c h g e k e n n z e i c h n e t , dass eine Tempe¬ ratur des Flüssigkristalldisplays (2) durch einen Tempe¬ ratursensor (17) ermittelt wird (24) und das automati¬ sche Unterbrechen des Strahlengangs (14) der einfallenden optischen Strahlung (3) erst bei einem Überschreiten eines vorgegebenen Schwellwerts der Temperatur erfolgt.
