Damage of pipe 222 leads to leakage of seal 160 or alternatively the need to tighten the seal against pipe 222 and/or replace. Leakage of the seal reduces the effectiveness of the original leakage detection apparatus as a key feature of the process is the ability to quantify any leak located.
  • seal 160 is leaking due to damage to pipe 222, this critical feature is impaired requiring the tightening and/or replacement of seal 160 each time the head 204 stops within the leaking pipe. Eventual replacement of pipe 222 at significant cost is required reducing the commercial viability of the original method described.
  • seal 160 creates an inherent friction on pipe 222 by the seal, which causes a drag force against the drive force exerted on the head 204 by drive path 250.
  • the leak detection method requires a balance of drive versus head pressure (flow paths 250 and 251) creating a pressure differential to move head 204.
  • Use of apparatus 1 reduces drag on head 50 significantly, by removing friction on pipe 22 and allows the pressure required in drive path 150 to move the head 50, to be significantly lower than in the existing system

Abstract

L'invention concerne un dispositif de détection de fuite et une tête de détection de fuite destinée à être utilisée dans un tel dispositif. Le dispositif comprend une cavité de fluide pouvant être mise sous pression ; un moyen formant tube ; une tête de détection, une entrée de fluide de trajet d'entraînement servant à amener un fluide à un trajet d'entraînement ; une entrée de fluide de trajet de tête raccordée par ledit moyen formant tube à ladite tête de détection le long d'un trajet de tête, et une sortie de fluide destinée à être raccordée à un tube de fuite par lequel ledit trajet d'entraînement passe en fonctionnement ; ladite sortie de fluide est raccordée à un tube de fuite ; un fluide est acheminé aux deux trajets, le fluide présent dans ledit trajet de tête passe le long dudit moyen formant tube et remplit ladite tête de détection jusqu'à une pression de tête souhaitée, le fluide présent dans ledit trajet d'entraînement met ladite cavité de fluide sous pression à une pression désirée, une fois que ladite cavité est mise sous pression, ledit fluide sort par ladite sortie de fluide et ladite pression d'entraînement extrait ledit moyen formant tube de ladite cavité mise sous pression et pousse la tête de détection mise sous pression vers le bas, le long dudit tube fuyard. La tête de détection destinée à être utilisée dans la détection des fuites et/ou l'appareil d'analyse de conduite comprennent : une région avant, une extrémité arrière creuse et une partie centrale creuse flexible située entre lesdites régions avant et arrière, et, lorsque le fluide est introduit dans ladite tête de détection à travers ladite région arrière, pour appliquer une pression à ladite tête, ladite partie centrale se dilate radialement vers l'extérieur.
