Description

表示装置、および表示装置の制御方法
 本発明は、互いに異なる表示領域を照らす複数の光源を備えた表示装置、および表示装置の制御方法に関するものである。
 1つの画像を表示する、いわゆるシングルビューディスプレイである表示部を備えた従来の表示装置は、真正面方向(視野角0°)に、輝度のピークを有しているのが一般的である。
 一方、特許文献1には、複数の観察者が同じディスプレイから異なる情報を見ることができる、いわゆるデュアルビューディスプレイが開示されている。
 特許文献1に開示されているディスプレイに代表される、複数の画像を表示する表示部を備えた表示装置は、各画像を表示する表示領域毎に異なる角度に、輝度のピークを有しているのが好ましい。そして、該表示装置においては、表示領域毎に表示される複数の画像の輝度(パネル輝度)が同じであり、各画像の見栄えが同じになるのが好ましい。
 特許文献2に開示されている光源装置は、複数の発光ユニットから成る発光ユニットのアレイを有し、各発光ユニットの輝度を個別に制御することができる。また、特許文献2に開示されている光源装置は、発光ユニットのアレイ輝度を均一化することができる。

 複数の画像を表示する表示部を備えた表示装置は、互いに異なる表示領域を照らす複数の光源を備えている必要がある。
 ここで、上記表示装置においては、複数の光源間での固体バラつき等に起因して、各表示領域に表示される画像の輝度が互いに異なる虞があるという問題が発生する。特許文献1に開示されているディスプレイは、該問題に対する対策を施すものではない。
 特許文献2に開示されている光源装置は、各発光ユニットをセンシングし、各発光ユニットの輝度を制御することが可能であるが、パネル入射後に光の輝度を低下させる要因を考慮した制御を行うものではない。すなわち、特許文献2に開示されている光源装置では、パネルで発生する輝度の低下、およびパネルに貼り付けられるバララックスバリア(視差バリア)に起因して発生する輝度の低下等が考慮されていない。
 従って、特許文献2に開示されている光源装置は、各表示領域に表示される画像の輝度が互いに異なる虞があるという問題が発生する。
 本発明は、上記の問題に鑑みて為されたものであり、その目的は、互いに異なる表示領域に表示される、複数の画像の輝度を略均一にする表示装置を提供することにある。
 本発明の表示装置は、上記の問題を解決するために、複数の表示領域を備えた表示部と、上記表示部における、互いに異なる上記表示領域を照らす、複数の光源と、各表示領域から出射された光の輝度を測定する、1または複数のセンサと、上記センサの測定結果に基づいて、出射された光の輝度が大きい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源の輝度を小さくする処理、および、出射された光の輝度が小さい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源の輝度を大きくする処理のうち少なくともいずれか一方の処理を行う演算部とを備えていることを特徴としている。
 また、本発明の表示装置の制御方法は、上記の問題を解決するために、複数の表示領域を備えた表示部と、上記表示部における、互いに異なる上記表示領域を照らす、複数の光源とを備えた表示装置の制御方法であって、1または複数のセンサにより、各表示領域から出射された光の輝度を測定する工程と、上記センサの測定結果に基づいて、出射された光の輝度が大きい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源の輝度を小さくする工程、および、出射された光の輝度が小さい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源の輝度を大きくする工程のうち少なくともいずれか一方の工程とを含んでいることを特徴としている。
 上記の構成によれば、センサの測定結果である、表示部における各表示領域から出射された光の輝度に基づいて、演算部は、光源の輝度を調整する。上記の構成によれば、表示部から出射された後の光を用いて該調整を行うので、表示部への光の入射後(すなわち、パネル入射後)に光の輝度を低下させる要因を考慮した上で、各表示領域に表示される画像の輝度の調整を行うことが可能となる。
 従って、上記の構成によれば、互いに異なる表示領域に表示される、複数の画像の輝度を略均一にすることが可能となる。上記の構成によれば、実条件により近い環境下での、画像の見栄えを調整することが可能となる。
 以上のとおり、本発明の表示装置は、複数の表示領域を備えた表示部と、上記表示部における、互いに異なる上記表示領域を照らす、複数の光源と、各表示領域から出射された光の輝度を測定する、1または複数のセンサと、上記センサの測定結果に基づいて、出射された光の輝度が大きい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源の輝度を小さくする処理、および、出射された光の輝度が小さい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源の輝度を大きくする処理のうち少なくともいずれか一方の処理を行う演算部とを備えている。
 また、本発明の表示装置の制御方法は、複数の表示領域を備えた表示部と、上記表示部における、互いに異なる上記表示領域を照らす、複数の光源とを備えた表示装置の制御方法であって、1または複数のセンサにより、各表示領域から出射された光の輝度を測定する工程と、上記センサの測定結果に基づいて、出射された光の輝度が大きい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源の輝度を小さくする工程、および、出射された光の輝度が小さい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源の輝度を大きくする工程のうち少なくともいずれか一方の工程とを含んでいる。
 従って、本発明は、互いに異なる表示領域に表示される、複数の画像の輝度を略均一にするという効果を奏する。

 以下、本発明を実施するための形態について説明する。
 なお、以下で説明する各実施の形態に係る表示部5は、2つの画像を同時に表示することが可能なデュアルビューディスプレイ、または4つの画像を同時に表示することが可能なカルテットビューディスプレイであるものとする。
 また、本願では、デュアルビューディスプレイである表示部5における各画像の表示領域の側を、それぞれ「A側」および「B側」と称する。また、本願では、カルテットビューディスプレイである表示部5における各画像の表示領域の側を、それぞれ「A側」「B側」「C側」および「D側」と称する。
 但し、本発明に係る表示部5は、デュアルビューディスプレイまたはカルテットビューディスプレイに限定されず、複数の画像を同時に表示することが可能なものであればよい。
 〔実施の形態1〕
 図1は、本実施の形態に係る表示装置100の概略構成を示す図である。
 図2は、表示装置100における、演算部7、および演算部7に関連する部材の構成を示すブロック図である。
 図1に示す表示装置100は、光路変更部材1、導光板2、反射シート3、LED4Aおよび4B、表示部5、センサ6Aおよび6B、演算部7、光源駆動制御部8、フレーム枠9、ならびにメモリ10を備えている。このうち、LED4Aおよび4B、ならびに光源駆動制御部8は、表示部5の背面から表示部5を照らすバックライト部300の構成要素であると言える。
 ここで、本願明細書において「正面」とは、表示部5が画像を表示する側(すなわち、ユーザが表示部5を見る側)の面を意味している。一方、本願明細書において「背面」とは、表示部5が画像を表示する側の反対側の面を意味している。
 なお、図1に示す表示部5は、デュアルビューディスプレイであるものとする。
 表示部5は、その背面に、光路変更部材1が配置されている。光路変更部材1は、その背面に、導光板2が配置されている。導光板2は、その背面に、反射シート3が配置されている。また、導光板2は、その側面に、LED4Aおよび4Bが配置されている。
 LED(光源)4Aおよび4Bは、表示部5の背面から表示部5を照らすための光源である。
 ここで、LED4Aは、B側から、導光板2に光を出射する位置に設けられている。LED4Bは、A側から、導光板2に光を出射する位置に設けられている。
 導光板2は、V字の溝、またはドット状の開口等の凹凸加工が施された板である。導光板2は、LED4Aおよび4Bのそれぞれから入射された光を拡散させることにより、導光板2の正面、すなわち光路変更部材1側の表面から均一な光を出射する。
 LED4Aから導光板2に入射された光は、例えば視野角70°±5°に相当する角度で、導光板2の正面から出射される。一方、LED4Bから導光板2に入射された光は、例えば視野角-70°±5°に相当する角度で、導光板2の正面から出射される。
 なお、本願明細書では、表示部5を真正面方向から見る場合の角度を視野角0°とし、視野角0°からA側に傾斜している場合、角度を+としており、視野角0°からB側に傾斜している場合、角度を-としている。
 反射シート3は、導光板2の背面から出射する一部の光を反射させて、導光板2の正面に集めるために使用されるものである。
 光路変更部材1は例えば、光学シート、拡散シート、またはプリズムシートによって構成されている。光路変更部材1は、導光板2から入射された各光の光路を、所望の光路に変更し、光路変更後の光を、光路変更部材1の正面、すなわち表示部5側の表面から出射する。
 LED4Aから導光板2を通じて光路変更部材1に入射された光は、例えば視野角45°に相当する角度で、光路変更部材1の正面から出射される。LED4Bから導光板2を通じて光路変更部材1に入射された光は、例えば視野角-45°に相当する角度で、光路変更部材1の正面から出射される。
 表示部5は、複数の画像を同時に表示することが可能な表示パネルである。具体的に、表示部5は、その正面に視差バリア(パララックスバリア)が貼り付けられており、該視差バリアにより、表示すべき複数の画像を個々の表示領域に分離している。表示部5の一例としては、LCD(Liquid Crystal Display:液晶表示装置)等が挙げられる。
 ここで、表示部5における、A側に位置する表示領域の背面は、LED4Aから導光板2を通じて光路変更部材1から出射された光により照らされる。これにより、該A側に位置する表示領域に表示される画像に関しては、視野角45°において、輝度のピークが得られる。
 一方、表示部5における、B側に位置する表示領域の背面は、LED4Bから導光板2を通じて光路変更部材1から出射された光により照らされる。これにより、該B側に位置する表示領域に表示される画像に関しては、視野角-45°において、輝度のピークが得られる。
 以上の構成により、表示部5のA側に表示される画像に対する輝度のピークと、表示部5のB側に表示される画像に対する輝度のピークとが、互いに異なる方向となる。
 従って、表示装置100では、表示部5のA側およびB側に表示される画像の各々に関して、輝度のピークが得られる視野角を、所望の角度とすることが可能であるため、これらの各画像の表示品位を向上させることが可能である。
 また、表示装置100では、表示部5に対する真正面方向(視野角0°)以外の方向にて所望の輝度を得るために、表示部5に対する真正面方向を照らす光の強度を大きくする必要がないので、消費電力を低減することが可能となる。
 センサ6Aおよび6Bは、表示部5の正面側、すなわち表示部5が画像を表示する側に設けられており、表示装置100の筐体としての、フレーム枠9の内部に設けられている。センサ6Aおよび6Bは、自身に入射した光の輝度のセンシングを行う輝度センサである。
 ここで、センサ6Aは、表示部5における、A側に位置する表示領域から出射される光の経路上に設けられている。センサ6Aは、自身に入射した光の輝度を測定し、該測定の結果を、検出データAとして、演算部7に供給する。
 センサ6Bは、表示部5における、B側に位置する表示領域から出射される光の経路上に設けられている。センサ6Bは、自身に入射した光の輝度を測定し、該測定の結果を、検出データAと異なる検出データBとして、演算部7に供給する。
 演算部7は、図2に示すとおり、データ解析部71、光源発光条件決定部72、および演算部メモリ73を備えている。
 以下、演算部7、および演算部7に関連する部材の動作の流れについて説明する。
 なお、ここでは一例として、表示部5のA側に表示された画像が、表示部5のB側に表示された画像より明るい場合についての説明を行う。
 データ解析部71は、センサ6Aに対して測定指令信号S_Enable_Aを送信する。また、データ解析部71は、センサ6Bに対して測定指令信号S_Enable_Bを送信する。
 センサ6Aは、測定指令信号S_Enable_Aを受信すると、輝度の測定を開始し、該測定の結果を、検出データAとして、データ解析部71に送信する。センサ6Bは、測定指令信号S_Enable_Bを受信すると、輝度の測定を開始し、該測定の結果を、検出データBとして、データ解析部71に送信する。
 データ解析部71は、検出データAおよびBを受けとる。データ解析部71は、検出データAに対して、AD(Analog-Digital)変換ならびにノイズ除去を施して得られた、解析結果Aを、光源発光条件決定部72に送信する。また、データ解析部71は、検出データBに対して、AD変換ならびにノイズ除去を施して得られた、解析結果Bを、光源発光条件決定部72に送信する。
 光源発光条件決定部72は、解析結果Aおよび解析結果Bを受けとる。光源発光条件決定部72は、解析結果Aが示す、センサ6Aが測定した輝度の値と、解析結果Bが示す、センサ6Bが測定した輝度の値との大小を比較する。なお、本例では、表示部5のA側に表示された画像が、表示部5のB側に表示された画像より明るいので、解析結果Aが示す、センサ6Aが測定した輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す、センサ6Bが測定した輝度の値より大きくなっている。
 ここで、演算部メモリ73は、例えばROM(Read Only Memory:読出専用メモリ)によって構成されている。演算部メモリ73には、上記の大小比較の結果と、LED4Aおよび/またはLED4Bに供給する電流の電流値の増減との関係を示すルックアップテーブルが、予め記録されている。
 そして、光源発光条件決定部72は、演算部メモリ73から、上記ルックアップテーブルを読み出す。
 上記ルックアップテーブルは、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値より大きい場合、LED4Aに供給する電流の電流値を、予め定められた値だけ低下させる旨の情報を含んでいる。また、上記ルックアップテーブルは、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値より小さい場合、LED4Aに供給する電流の電流値を、予め定められた値だけ上昇させる旨の情報を含んでいる。
 そして、光源発光条件決定部72は、上記ルックアップテーブルに含まれた情報に従って、LED4Aに供給する電流の電流値を、予め定められた値だけ低下または上昇させる発光条件設定値Aを、光源駆動制御部8に送信する。
 すなわち、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値より大きい場合、発光条件設定値Aは、光源駆動制御部8に対して、LED4Aに供給する電流の電流値を、予め定められた値だけ低下させる値である。一方、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値より小さい場合、発光条件設定値Aは、光源駆動制御部8に対して、LED4Aに供給する電流の電流値を、予め定められた値だけ上昇させる値である。なお、本例では、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値より大きいので、発光条件設定値Aは、光源駆動制御部8に対して、LED4Aに供給する電流の電流値を、予め定められた値だけ低下させる値となる。
 なお、上記ルックアップテーブルは、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値より大きい場合、LED4Bに供給する電流の電流値を、予め定められた値だけ上昇させる旨の情報を含んでいてもよい。また、上記ルックアップテーブルは、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値より小さい場合、LED4Bに供給する電流の電流値を、予め定められた値だけ低下させる旨の情報を含んでいてもよい。この場合、光源発光条件決定部72は、LED4Aに供給する電流の電流値を上昇または低下させる発光条件設定値Aと同じ原理により、LED4Bに供給する電流の電流値を上昇または低下させる発光条件設定値Bを、光源駆動制御部8に送信する。
 光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値Aまたは発光条件設定値Bを受けとる。
 光源駆動制御部8は例えば、LED4Aおよび4Bに電流を供給することによりLED4Aおよび4Bを駆動する、一般的なLED駆動回路により構成することができる。
 従って、光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値Aに基づいて、LED4Aに供給する電流である光源制御信号Aを、容易に生成することができる。すなわち、本例では、光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値Aに基づいて、光源制御信号Aの電流値を低下させればよい。
 同じく、光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値Bに基づいて、LED4Bに供給する電流である光源制御信号Bを、容易に生成することができる。すなわち、本例では、光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値Bに基づいて、光源制御信号Bの電流値を上昇させればよい。
 以上の動作を繰り返し、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値と、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値との差が、ある値(例えば、1回の動作で、LED4Aまたは4Bに供給する電流の電流値を上昇または低下させることで変化する、輝度の値)未満となった場合に、動作を終了する。解析結果Aが示す輝度の値(センサ6Aが測定した輝度の値)と、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値(センサ6Bが測定した輝度の値)との差は、解析結果AおよびBを参照して、光源発光条件決定部72が求めればよい。
 なお、光源駆動制御部8は、メモリ10に記録された情報を読み出したり、メモリ10に情報を記録したりすることが可能な構成としてもよい。これにより、動作終了時におけるLED4Aおよび/または4Bに供給する電流の電流値を示す情報をメモリ10に記録したり、発光条件設定値Aに応じた光源制御信号Aの電流値を、メモリ10から読み出したり、発光条件設定値Bに応じた光源制御信号Bの電流値を、メモリ10から読み出したりすることが可能となる。メモリ10を設ける位置は、バックライト部300内であってもよいし、その他の表示装置100内であってもよい。
 上記の構成によれば、LED4Aおよび4B間での固体バラつき、表示部5の視覚特性が非対称であること、および視差バリアの位置ズレ等に起因して、表示部5のA側に表示される画像の輝度と表示部5のB側に表示される画像の輝度とが異なる場合に、これらの輝度を互いに略均一にすることが可能となる。上記の構成によれば、実条件により近い環境下での、画像の見栄えを調整することが可能となる。
 なお、各LED4Aおよび4Bとしては、疑似白色LED、および高演色LED等が利用可能である。
 また、各LED4Aおよび4Bは、いずれも、CCFT(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Tube:冷陰極蛍光管)に置換されてもよい。
 ここで、上記の構成では、光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値Aに基づいてLED4Aに供給する電流(光源制御信号A)の電流値を調整(上昇または低下)する処理(処理A)、または、発光条件設定値Bに基づいてLED4Bに供給する電流(光源制御信号B)の電流値を調整(上昇または低下)する処理(処理B)のいずれかを行っているが、本実施の形態に係る表示装置100はこれに限定されず、上記処理Aおよび処理Bの両方を実行する構成としてもよい。
 すなわち、本例(表示部5のA側に表示された画像が、表示部5のB側に表示された画像より明るい場合)では、光源駆動制御部8が、発光条件設定値Aに基づいて光源制御信号Aの電流値を低下させる(処理A)とともに、発光条件設定値Bに基づいて光源制御信号Bの電流値を上昇させる(処理B)構成としてもよい。
 このように、本表示装置100における演算部7は、センサ6Aおよび6Bの測定結果に基づいて、出射された光の輝度が大きい表示領域を照らす光源の輝度を小さくする処理、および、出射された光の輝度が小さい表示領域を照らす光源の輝度を大きくする処理のうち少なくともいずれか一方の処理を行う。この演算部7の処理は、以降の各実施の形態においても同様である。
 〔実施の形態2〕
 さらに、各LED4Aおよび4Bとしては、赤(R)、緑(G)、および青(B)の3色のLEDから成るRGB-LEDが利用可能である。
 各LED4Aおよび4BとしてRGB-LEDを利用する場合、センサ6Aおよび6Bを、輝度センサから、自身に入射した光の輝度および色度のセンシングを行うカラーセンサへと変更するのが好ましい。
 センサ6Aおよび6Bは、輝度および色度を測定し、該測定の結果を演算部7に送信する。
 各センサ6Aおよび6Bが測定した輝度に関する、演算部7、および演算部7に関連する部材の動作の流れは、上述した実施の形態と同じであるので、ここでは説明を省略する。
 以下、各センサ6Aおよび6Bが測定した色度に関する、演算部7、および演算部7に関連する部材の動作の流れについて、図1を参照して説明する。
 色度は通常、色度座標(x、y)で表現する。光源にRGB-LEDを用いた場合、白色の光を出射するためには、赤、緑、および青の各LEDに供給する電流の比を調整する。白色時の色度を例えば色度座標(0.3、0.3)と定義し、白色時にこの色度になるように、赤、緑、および青の各LEDに供給する電流を調整する。
 例えば、LED4Aの白色点灯時の色度と、LED4Bの白色点灯時の色度とを合致させる場合、センサ6AによりA側の色度を測定し、A側の色度にB側の色度を合わせにいく。逆に、センサ6BによりB側の色度を測定し、B側の色度にA側の色度を合わせにいってもよい。あるいは、予め定められた白色点灯時におけるターゲット色度(例えば、(0.3、0.3))に、LED4Aおよび/または4Bの色度を合わせにいってもよい。
 演算部メモリ73には、色度座標と、LED4Aおよび/またはLED4Bに供給する電流の電流値との関係を示す、色度に関するルックアップテーブルが、予め記録されている。
 すなわち、該色度に関するルックアップテーブルは、センサ6Aが測定した色度の色度座標と、センサ6Bが測定した色度の色度座標とが異なる場合、これらの色度座標を一致させるように、LED4Aに供給する電流の電流値を、予め定められた値だけ変化させる旨の情報を含んでいる。
 光源発光条件決定部72は、上記色度に関するルックアップテーブルに従って、LED4Aに供給する電流の電流値を、予め定められた値だけ変化させる発光条件設定値を、光源駆動制御部8に送信する。
 すなわち、センサ6Aが測定した色度の色度座標と、センサ6Bが測定した色度の色度座標とが異なる場合、上記発光条件設定値は、光源駆動制御部8に対して、これらの色度座標を一致させるように、LED4Aに供給する電流の電流値を、予め定められた値だけ変化させる値である。
 なお、上記色度に関するルックアップテーブルは、センサ6Aが測定した色度の色度座標と、センサ6Bが測定した色度の色度座標とが異なる場合、これらの色度座標を一致させるように、LED4Bに供給する電流の電流値を、予め定められた値だけ変化させる旨の情報を含んでいてもよい。この場合、演算部7は、LED4Aに供給する電流の電流値を変化させる発光条件設定値と同じ原理により、LED4Bに供給する電流の電流値を変化させる発光条件設定値を、光源駆動制御部8に送信する。
 光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値に基づいて、LED4Aおよび/またはLED4Bに供給する電流を生成し、LED4Aおよび/またはLED4Bに該電流を供給することにより、LED4Aおよび/またはLED4Bを駆動する。
 以上の動作を繰り返し、センサ6Aが測定した色度座標と、センサ6Bが測定した色度座標とが同じ(例えば、色度座標(x、y)=(0.3、0.3))となった場合に、動作を終了する。
 上記の構成によれば、上述した実施の形態の効果に加え、表示部5のA側に表示される画像の色度と表示部5のB側に表示される画像の色度とが異なる場合に、これらの色度を互いに略均一にすることが可能となる。上記の構成によれば、実条件により近い環境下での、画像の色味を調整することが可能となる。
 〔実施の形態3〕
 上述した各実施の形態では、表示部5の正面側、すなわち表示部5が画像を表示する側において、自身に入射した光の輝度(必要に応じて、さらに色度)を測定するセンサとして、センサ6Aおよび6Bという2つのセンサを用いていた。
 しかしながら、上記センサの数は、特に限定されない。例えば、表示装置100は、該センサを3つ以上備えていてもよい。
 さらに、表示装置100は、該センサを1つ備えている構成であってもよい。該構成の一例を図3に示している。
 図3に示す表示装置100は、センサ6Aおよび6Bではなく、1つのセンサ6を備えている。
 センサ6は、表示部5の正面側に設けられており、フレーム枠9の内部に設けられている。図示の便宜上、図3に示す断面図において、センサ6は、二点鎖線により規定された、平面図において上側にあるフレーム枠9の内部に設けられている。
 ここで、センサ6は、LED4Aまでの距離と、LED4Bまでの距離とが等しくなる位置に設けられているのが好ましい。なぜなら、各LED4Aおよび4Bまでの間隔を互いに均一にしておくことにより、表示部5における、A側に位置する表示領域から出射される光の測定と、表示部5における、B側に位置する表示領域から出射される光の測定とを、可能な限り同じ条件で行うためである。
 また、センサ6により、輝度(必要に応じて、さらに色度)を測定する場合、表示部5のA側およびB側の両方から光が出射していると、上記A側に位置する表示領域からの光と、上記B側に位置する表示領域からの光とを区別するのが困難となる。
 そこで、図3に示すとおり、1つのセンサ6を用いて、表示部5における、A側およびB側に位置する各表示領域からの光を測定する場合、LED4Aのみを発光させた状態で測定を行う期間と、LED4Bのみを発光させた状態で測定を行う期間とを設ける。
 具体例としては、まずは、LED4Bを消灯させた状態でLED4Aを発光させ、センサ6が測定した結果を、A側に位置する表示領域から出射される光の測定結果(検出データAに対応)とする。続いて、LED4Aを消灯させると共にLED4Bを発光させ、センサ6が測定した結果を、B側に位置する表示領域から出射される光の測定結果(検出データBに対応)とする。
 これにより、センサ6が、センサ6Aおよび6Bの機能を兼ねるので、図2に示すブロック図の構成およびその説明に基づいて、容易に、演算部7、および演算部7に関連する部材を動作させることが可能である。
 ここでは、センサ6が輝度センサである例について説明を行ったが、もちろん、センサ6はカラーセンサであってもよい。
 また、図1に示すセンサ6Aおよび6Bのように、表示装置100が複数のセンサを備えている場合、各センサは、A側とB側とのそれぞれに、同じ数だけ設けられているのが好ましい。なぜなら、A側とB側とのそれぞれに、同じ数のセンサを設けることにより、表示部5における、A側に位置する表示領域から出射される光の測定と、表示部5における、B側に位置する表示領域から出射される光の測定とを、可能な限り同じ条件で行うためである。
 また、センサ6、あるいはセンサ6Aおよび6Bを、フレーム枠9の内部に設けることにより、表示装置100の最終製品において、外観デザインに及ぼす影響を最小限にすることが可能となる。
 〔実施の形態1-3の効果〕
 LED4Aおよび4Bに、疑似白色LED、または高演色LEDを用いる場合、表示装置100は、実施の形態1に係る構成であるのが好ましい。これにより、表示部5のA側に表示される画像の輝度と表示部5のB側に表示される画像の輝度との均一化を図ることが可能となる(図4参照)。
 なお、図4は、表示部5のA側に表示される画像の輝度と表示部5のB側に表示される画像の輝度との両方を明るくして、均一化を図った例を示している。均一化されたこれらの輝度の明暗は、図2の構成において、LED4Aまたは4Bに供給する電流を大きくするか小さくするかに応じて、適宜決定することが可能である。
 LED4Aおよび4Bに、RGB-LEDを用いる場合、表示装置100は、実施の形態2に係る構成であるのが好ましい。これにより、表示部5のA側に表示される画像の輝度と表示部5のB側に表示される画像の輝度との均一化を図ることが可能となる。また、これにより、表示部5のA側に表示される画像の色度(色味)と表示部5のB側に表示される画像の色度(色味)との均一化を図ることが可能となる(図4参照)。
 この結果、表示装置100においては、表示部5に表示する各画像間での見栄えの差を低減することが可能となる。
 さらに、表示装置100は、表示部5のA側および/またはB側に表示される画像の輝度(および色度)を任意の値(色度座標)にすることも可能である。このことが好適となる例について、図5を参照して説明する。
 図5によれば、表示装置100は、表示部5における、A側に位置する表示領域に、外光11が差し込んでいる。差し込む外光11の強度が大きい場合、表示品位が著しく落ちる。この場合、バックライトの輝度を上げることで表示品位は向上する。すなわち、対応するLEDが出射する光の輝度を大きくする必要があるため、この場合、LED4Bが出射する光の輝度より、LED4Aが出射する光の輝度を大きくする必要がある。
 この場合、まず、ディスプレイOFF状態(バックライトOFF)で、センサ6Aおよび6Bによって、外光輝度をセンシングする。センシングしたデータを元に、どちらの外光輝度が大きいかを、解析する。光源発光条件決定部72は、外光輝度が大きい側(図5では、例えばA側)の表示品位を向上させるため、ディスプレイON状態(バックライトON)においてLED4Aに供給する電流の電流値を上昇させる。上記ルックアップテーブルは、センサが測定した外光輝度を元に、LED4Aおよび4Bに供給する電流値を、予め定められた電流値だけ変化させる旨の情報を含んでいる。
 〔実施の形態4〕
 上述した各実施の形態に係るLED4Aおよび4Bの駆動制御は、各LED4Aおよび4Bに供給する電流の振幅を可変とする電流制御であった。
 一方、LEDの駆動制御としては、電流制御の他にも、各LED4Aおよび4Bに供給する電流のパルス幅を可変とするPWM(Pulse Width Modulation:パルス幅変調)が挙げられる。
 表示装置100は、LED4Aおよび4Bの駆動制御がPWMである場合においても、上述した各実施の形態と同様の効果を奏し得るものであり、このような表示装置100について、本実施の形態で説明する。
 本実施の形態に係る表示装置100は、概略的には、図1および図2と同じ構成である。そして、演算部7、および演算部7に関連する部材の動作の流れについては、実施の形態1で説明したのと異なる点についてのみ、説明を行う。
 演算部メモリ73には、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値と、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値との大小を比較した結果と、LED4Aおよび/またはLED4Bに供給する電流の、1周期間でのデューティー比の変化との関係を示すルックアップテーブルが、予め記録されている。
 そして、光源発光条件決定部72は、演算部メモリ73から、上記ルックアップテーブルを読み出す。
 上記ルックアップテーブルは、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値より大きい場合、LED4Aに供給する電流のデューティー比を、予め定められた比率だけ小さくする旨の情報を含んでいる。また、上記ルックアップテーブルは、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値より小さい場合、LED4Aに供給する電流のデューティー比を、予め定められた比率だけ大きくする旨の情報を含んでいる。
 そして、光源発光条件決定部72は、上記ルックアップテーブルに含まれた情報に従って、LED4Aに供給する電流のデューティー比を、予め定められた比率だけ変化させる発光条件設定値Aを、光源駆動制御部8に送信する。
 すなわち、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値より大きい場合、発光条件設定値Aは、光源駆動制御部8に対して、LED4Aに供給する電流のデューティー比を、予め定められた比率だけ小さくする値である。一方、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値より小さい場合、発光条件設定値Aは、光源駆動制御部8に対して、LED4Aに供給する電流のデューティー比を、予め定められた比率だけ大きくする値である。
 なお、上記ルックアップテーブルは、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値より大きい場合、LED4Bに供給する電流のデューティー比を、予め定められた比率だけ大きくする旨の情報を含んでいてもよい。また、上記ルックアップテーブルは、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値が、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値より小さい場合、LED4Bに供給する電流のデューティー比を、予め定められた比率だけ小さくする旨の情報を含んでいてもよい。この場合、光源発光条件決定部72は、LED4Aに供給する電流のデューティー比を変化させる発光条件設定値Aと同じ原理により、LED4Bに供給する電流のデューティー比を変化させる発光条件設定値Bを、光源駆動制御部8に送信する。
 光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値Aまたは発光条件設定値Bを受けとる。
 光源駆動制御部8は例えば、LED4Aおよび4BにPWM変調を施した電流を供給することによりLED4Aおよび4Bを駆動する、一般的なLED駆動回路により構成することができる。
 従って、光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値Aに基づいて、LED4Aに供給する電流である光源制御信号Aを、容易に生成することができる。すなわち、光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値Aに基づいて、光源制御信号Aの電流のデューティー比を変化させればよい。
 同じく、光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値Bに基づいて、LED4Bに供給する電流である光源制御信号Bを、容易に生成することができる。すなわち、光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値Bに基づいて、光源制御信号Bの電流のデューティー比を変化させればよい。
 以上の動作を繰り返し、解析結果Aが示す輝度の値と、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値との差が、ある値(例えば、1回の動作で伸縮させる、電流のデューティー比に対応する、輝度の値)未満となった場合に、動作を終了する。解析結果Aが示す輝度の値(センサ6Aが測定した輝度の値)と、解析結果Bが示す輝度の値(センサ6Bが測定した輝度の値)との差は、解析結果AおよびBを参照して、光源発光条件決定部72が求めればよい。
 その他の構成および動作については、実施の形態1に係る表示装置100と同じである。
 上記の構成によれば、LED4Aおよび4B間での固体バラつき、表示部5の視覚特性が非対称であること、および視差バリアの位置ズレ等に起因して、表示部5のA側に表示される画像の輝度と表示部5のB側に表示される画像の輝度とが異なる場合に、これらの輝度を互いに略均一にすることが可能となる。つまり、表示装置100は、LED4Aおよび4Bの駆動制御がPWMである場合においても、上述した各実施の形態と同様の効果を奏し得るものである。
 さらに、LED4Aおよび4Bの駆動制御がPWMである場合においても、各LED4Aおよび4BとしてRGB-LEDを、センサ6Aおよび6Bとしてカラーセンサをそれぞれ用いて、表示部5のA側に表示される画像の色度と表示部5のB側に表示される画像の色度とが異なる場合に、これらの色度を互いに略均一にすることが可能である。
 演算部メモリ73には、色度座標と、LED4Aおよび/またはLED4Bに供給する電流のデューティー比との関係を示す、色度に関するルックアップテーブルが、予め記録されている。
 すなわち、該色度に関するルックアップテーブルは、センサ6Aが測定した色度の色度座標と、センサ6Bが測定した色度の色度座標とが異なる場合、これらの色度座標を一致させるように、LED4Aに供給する電流のデューティー比を、予め定められた比率だけ変化させる旨の情報を含んでいる。
 光源発光条件決定部72は、上記色度に関するルックアップテーブルに従って、LED4Aに供給する電流のデューティー比を、予め定められた比率だけ変化させる発光条件設定値を、光源駆動制御部8に送信する。
 すなわち、センサ6Aが測定した色度の色度座標と、センサ6Bが測定した色度の色度座標とが異なる場合、上記発光条件設定値は、光源駆動制御部8に対して、これらの色度座標を一致させるように、LED4Aに供給する電流のデューティー比を、予め定められた比率だけ変化させる値である。
 なお、上記色度に関するルックアップテーブルは、センサ6Aが測定した色度の色度座標と、センサ6Bが測定した色度の色度座標とが異なる場合、これらの色度座標を一致させるように、LED4Bに供給する電流のデューティー比を、予め定められた比率だけ変化させる旨の情報を含んでいてもよい。この場合、演算部7は、LED4Aに供給する電流のデューティー比を変化させる発光条件設定値と同じ原理により、LED4Bに供給する電流のデューティー比を変化させる発光条件設定値を、光源駆動制御部8に送信する。
 光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値に基づいて、LED4Aおよび/またはLED4Bに供給する電流を生成し、LED4Aおよび/またはLED4Bに該電流を供給することにより、LED4Aおよび/またはLED4Bを駆動する。
 以上の動作を繰り返し、センサ6Aが測定した色度座標と、センサ6Bが測定した色度座標とが、同じ(例えば、色度座標(x、y)=(0.3、0.3))となった場合に、動作を終了する。
 その他の構成および動作については、実施の形態2に係る表示装置100と同じである。
 さらに、本実施の形態に係る技術は、図3に係る実施の形態に係る技術と組み合わされてもよい。すなわち、センサ6Aおよび6Bのかわりに、1つのセンサ6を用いて、センサ6で上述した要領により、輝度(必要に応じて、さらに色度)の測定を行ってもよい。
 ここで、上記の構成では、光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値Aに基づいてLED4Aに供給する電流(光源制御信号A)のデューティー比を調整(比率を大小)する処理(処理A)、または、発光条件設定値Bに基づいてLED4Bに供給する電流(光源制御信号B)のデューティー比を調整(比率を大小)する処理(処理B)のいずれかを行っているが、本実施の形態に係る表示装置100はこれに限定されず、上記処理Aおよび処理Bの両方を実行する構成としてもよい。
 すなわち、本例(表示部5のA側に表示された画像が、表示部5のB側に表示された画像より明るい場合)では、光源駆動制御部8が、発光条件設定値Aに基づいて光源制御信号Aのデューティー比を小さくする(処理A)とともに、発光条件設定値Bに基づいて光源制御信号Bのデューティー比を大きくする(処理B)構成としてもよい。
 このように、本表示装置100における演算部7は、センサ6Aおよび6Bの測定結果に基づいて、出射された光の輝度が大きい表示領域を照らす光源の輝度を小さくする処理、および、出射された光の輝度が小さい表示領域を照らす光源の輝度を大きくする処理のうち少なくともいずれか一方の処理を行う。この演算部7の処理は、以降の各実施の形態においても同様である。
 本実施の形態に係る各構成によれば、実施の形態1-3の効果と同様の効果を奏する。
 〔実施の形態5〕
 センサ6Aおよび6B、センサ6に代表される、輝度センサまたはカラーセンサを表示装置100に搭載しない場合、つまり、最終製品としての表示装置100にセンサを搭載しない場合であっても、上述した各実施の形態に相当する技術を実施することは可能である。以下、その一具体例として、表示装置100にセンサを搭載しない場合に、実施の形態1に相当する技術を実施する例について説明する。
 本実施の形態に係る表示装置100の構成を図6に示す。
 図6に示すセンサ6Aは、表示部5における、A側に位置する表示領域から出射される光の経路上に設けられている。図6に示すセンサ6Bは、表示部5における、B側に位置する表示領域から出射される光の経路上に設けられている。図6に示すセンサ6Aおよび6Bはいずれも、表示装置100に設けられていない点が図1に示すものと異なる。但し、センサ6Aおよび6Bはいずれも、その機能については図1に示すものと同じである。
 センサ6Aおよび6Bを設ける部材は、表示装置100以外であれば特に限定されない。そこで、便宜上、図6では、センサ6Aおよび6Bを支持する部材の詳細な図示を省略した。
 例えば、図6に示す実施の形態において、センサ6Aおよび6Bは、例えば表示装置100の出荷前に、図1および図2に示すものと同様に、輝度の測定を行い、それぞれ検出データAおよびBをデータ解析部71に送信する。
 データ解析部71、光源発光条件決定部72、および演算部メモリ73の構成および動作については、図2に示すものと同様であるため、詳細な説明を省略する。
 光源駆動制御部8は、表示部5のA側およびB側の各々に表示される各画像の輝度を互いに略均一化させた(LED4Aおよび4Bの輝度の調整が完了した)時点で、最後に受けとった発光条件設定値AおよびBをメモリ10に記録する。
 その後、表示装置100において、LED4Aおよび4Bを発光させる必要が生じた場合、光源駆動制御部8は、先にメモリ10に記録した発光条件設定値AおよびBを読み出し、該発光条件設定値AおよびBに基づいて、LED4Aおよび4Bの輝度を設定する。
 上記の構成により、表示装置100にセンサを搭載しない場合に、実施の形態1に相当する技術を実施することが可能となる。
 本実施の形態に係る技術は、以下のように表現することができる。
 複数の表示領域を備えた表示部5と、表示部5の背面から表示部5を照らし、互いに異なる表示領域を照らす、複数のLED4Aおよび4Bとを備えた表示装置100の制御方法であって、センサ6Aおよび6Bにより、各表示領域から出射された光の輝度を測定する工程と、センサ6Aおよび6Bの測定結果に基づいて、出射された光の輝度が大きい表示領域を照らすLED4Aまたは4Bの輝度を小さくする、または、出射された光の輝度が小さい表示領域を照らすLED4Aまたは4Bの輝度を大きくする工程とを含んでいる表示装置100の制御方法。
 他の実施の形態についても同様に、最後に受けとった発光条件設定値AおよびBをメモリ10に記録し、LED4Aおよび4Bを発光させる必要が生じた場合、先にメモリ10に記録した発光条件設定値AおよびBを読み出し、該発光条件設定値AおよびBに基づいて、LED4Aおよび4Bの輝度を設定するように、光源駆動制御部8を動作させればよい。これにより、他の実施の形態についても同様に、表示装置100にセンサを搭載しない場合に、対応する該実施の形態に相当する技術を実施することが可能となる。
 〔実施の形態6〕
 図7の(a)および(b)は、本実施の形態に係る表示装置110の構成を示す斜視図である。図7の(a)は、表示装置110をC側から見た図であり、図7の(b)は、表示装置110をD側から見た図である。
 図8は、図1に対応する、本実施の形態に係る表示装置110の概略構成を示す図である。但し、図示の便宜上、図8には、図1に対応する、表示装置110の平面図のみを示した。
 上述した各実施の形態に係る表示装置100の表示部5は、デュアルビューディスプレイである。
 一方、本実施の形態に係る表示装置110の表示部5は、カルテットビューディスプレイである。
 これに伴い、表示装置110は、図1に示す表示装置100の構成に加え、LED4Cおよび4D、ならびにセンサ6Cおよび6Dを備えている。このうち、LED4Cおよび4Dは、バックライト部300の構成要素であると言える。
 LED(光源)4Cおよび4Dは、LED4Aおよび4Bと同じく、導光板2の側面に配置された、表示部5の背面から表示部5を照らすための光源である。
 ここで、LED4Cは、D側から、導光板2に光を出射する位置に設けられている。LED4Dは、C側から、導光板2に光を出射する位置に設けられている。
 LED4AとLED4Bとを結んだ直線と、LED4CとLED4Dとを結んだ直線とは、直交する。LED4Cに対するLED4Dの位置関係は、LED4Aに対するLED4Bの位置関係と等しい。
 光路変更部材1、導光板2、および反射シート3は、LED4Cおよび4Dから出射された光に対して、LED4Aおよび4Bから出射された光と同様の機能を及ぼす。
 ここでは、表示部5を真正面方向から見る場合の角度を視野角0°とし、視野角0°からC側に傾斜している場合、角度を+とし、視野角0°からD側に傾斜している場合、角度を-とする。但し、A側に傾斜した角度とC側に傾斜した角度とを区別するため、また、B側に傾斜した角度とD側に傾斜した角度とを区別するため、C側またはD側に傾斜した角度を示す場合、角度の表示に[ ]を付す。
 LED4Cから導光板2を通じて光路変更部材1に入射された光は、例えば視野角[45°]に相当する角度で、光路変更部材1の正面から出射される。LED4Dから導光板2を通じて光路変更部材1に入射された光は、例えば視野角[-45°]に相当する角度で、光路変更部材1の正面から出射される。
 表示部5における、C側に位置する表示領域の背面は、LED4Cから導光板2を通じて光路変更部材1から出射された光により照らされる。これにより、該C側に位置する表示領域に表示される画像に関しては、視野角[45°]において、輝度のピークが得られる。
 一方、表示部5における、D側に位置する表示領域の背面は、LED4Dから導光板2を通じて光路変更部材1から出射された光により照らされる。これにより、該D側に位置する表示領域に表示される画像に関しては、視野角[-45°]において、輝度のピークが得られる。
 以上の構成により、表示部5のA側に表示される画像に対する輝度のピークと、表示部5のB側に表示される画像に対する輝度のピークと、表示部5のC側に表示される画像に対する輝度のピークと、表示部5のD側に表示される画像に対する輝度のピークとが、互いに異なる方向となる。
 従って、表示装置110では、表示部5のA側-D側に表示される画像の各々に関して、輝度のピークが得られる視野角を、所望の角度とすることが可能であるため、これらの各画像の表示品位を向上させることが可能である。
 また、表示装置110では、表示部5に対する真正面方向(視野角0°および[0°])以外の方向にて所望の輝度を得るために、表示部5に対する真正面方向を照らす光の強度を大きくする必要がないので、消費電力を低減することが可能となる。
 センサ6Cおよび6Dは、表示部5の正面側、すなわち表示部5が画像を表示する側に設けられており、表示装置110の筐体としての、フレーム枠9の内部に設けられている。センサ6Cおよび6Dは、自身に入射した光の輝度のセンシングを行う輝度センサである。
 ここで、センサ6Cは、表示部5における、C側に位置する表示領域から出射される光の経路上に設けられている。センサ6Cは、自身に入射した光の輝度を測定し、該測定の結果を、検出データAおよびBと異なる検出データCとして、演算部7に供給する。
 センサ6Dは、表示部5における、D側に位置する表示領域から出射される光の経路上に設けられている。センサ6Dは、自身に入射した光の輝度を測定し、該測定の結果を、検出データA-Cと異なる検出データDとして、演算部7に供給する。
 従って、LED4Cおよび4D、ならびに、センサ6Cおよび6Dは、LED4Aおよび4B、ならびに、センサ6Aおよび6Bにそれぞれ対応する部材であり、LED4Aおよび4B、ならびに、センサ6Aおよび6Bとそれぞれ同様の構成である。
 換言すれば、表示装置110は、図1に示す断面を有する表示装置100を備えている。さらに、表示装置110は、C側およびD側における断面において、LED4Cおよび4D、ならびに、センサ6Cおよび6Dを含む、図1に示す断面と同様の構成を備えている。
 また、表示装置110の演算部7は、図2に示す演算部7の構成を2つ備えている。すなわち、表示装置110の演算部7は、LED4Aおよび4Bの輝度を調整する、図2に示す構成と、LED4Cおよび4Dの輝度を調整する、図2に示す構成とを備えている。これらの2つの構成は、各々、2つの対応するLEDに対して、同様の動作および機能を及ぼすものであるので、動作および機能の詳細な説明については省略する。
 上記の構成によれば、LED4Cおよび4D間での固体バラつき、表示部5の視覚特性が非対称であること、および視差バリアの位置ズレ等に起因して、表示部5のC側に表示される画像の輝度と表示部5のD側に表示される画像の輝度とが異なる場合に、これらの輝度を互いに略均一にすることが可能となる。
 LED4Cおよび4Dの輝度を調整する構成に、LED4Aおよび4Bの輝度を調整する構成に適用した、上述した各実施の形態に係る技術を組み合わせてもよい。
 すなわち、センサ6A-6Dとして、輝度センサのかわりに、カラーセンサを用いてもよい。また、LED4Cおよび4Dの発光の制御は、電流制御であってもよいし、PWM制御であってもよい。センサは、5つ以上であってもよいし、3つ以上であってもよい。最終製品としての表示装置110にセンサを搭載せず、出荷前検査時等にセンサを用いて、輝度の調整を行ってもよい。A側-D側の輝度値を同じにする場合に限らず、各輝度(必要に応じて、さらに色度の値)の値を任意の値に設定することも可能である。
 〔実施の形態7〕
 上述した各実施の形態では、輝度の値(必要に応じて、さらに色度の値)を測定することで、光源であるLEDの輝度(必要に応じて、さらに色度)の調整を行った。
 本実施の形態では、センサとしてイメージセンサを用いる場合について、説明を行う。
 デュアルビューディスプレイは、表示部5にパララックスバリア(視差バリア)を貼り付けることにより、画像を2方向に分離するものである。このパララックスバリアの貼り付けにズレが生じると、表示部5のA側とB側とで、光を透過することが可能な面積が異なり、輝度の差が生じる虞がある。
 本実施の形態は、パララックスバリアの貼り付けのズレに起因して、表示部5のA側に表示される画像の輝度と表示部5のB側に表示される画像の輝度とが異なる場合に、これらの輝度を互いに略均一にする形態である。
 本実施の形態に係る表示装置100は、図3に示すセンサ6として、イメージセンサを用いた構成と等しい。
 センサ6は、パララックスバリアの貼り付けのズレ量を測定する。演算部7は、該ズレ量に基づいて、表示部5のA側およびB側の各透過可能面積を算出する。光源駆動制御部8は、演算部7が算出した各透過可能面積に基づいて、LED4Aおよび4Bに供給する電流の電流値(または電流のデューティー比)を算出し、算出した電流値に基づいて、LED4Aおよび4Bの輝度を調整する。
 図13の(a)および(b)は、本実施の形態に係る表示装置100の機能を説明するイメージ図である。
 ここでは、パララックスバリア130の開口部131の中心131cと、表示部5における画素部133間のBM(ブラックマトリクス)134の中心134cとを合致させて貼り合わせる場合に、貼り合わせズレが発生した場合を例示する。図13の(a)は該ズレが無い場合を、図13の(b)は該ズレが有る場合を、それぞれ示している。イメージセンサ135は、BM134の中心134cから開口部131のA側の端部までの距離、および中心134cから開口部131のB側の端部までの距離を測長する。これにより、イメージセンサ135は、これら2つの距離から、容易にパララックスバリア130の貼り付けのズレ量を測定することができる。
 演算部7の光源発光条件決定部72は、イメージセンサ135が測定したズレ量を元に、A側およびB側の各表示領域における透過可能面積の大小(比率であってもよい)を算出する。例えば、図13の(b)の場合、中心134cから開口部131のA側の端部までの距離は、中心134cから開口部131のB側の端部までの距離より短い。従って、デュアルビューディスプレイの原理を踏まえると、表示部5におけるA側の透過可能面積は、表示部5におけるB側のそれより大きく、A側の画素の透過領域は、B側の画素の透過領域より広いことが分かる。
 そして、光源発光条件決定部72は、A側およびB側の各表示領域の透過可能面積の大小をもとに、LED4Aまたは4Bに供給する電流値(または、デューティー比)を求める。すなわち、図13の(b)に示す例では、透過可能面積が大きいA側に光を出射するLED4Aの輝度を低下させるべく、LED4Aに供給する電流の電流値を、予め定められた値だけ低下させる。もちろん、電流値の低下のかわりに、LED4Aに供給する電流のデューティー比を、予め定められた比率だけ小さくしてもよい。LED4Aに供給する電流を変化させるかわりに、LED4Bに供給する電流を変化させてもよい。
 光源駆動制御部8は、発光条件設定値に基づいて、LED4Aおよび/またはLED4Bに供給する電流を生成し、LED4Aおよび/またはLED4Bに該電流を供給することにより、LED4Aおよび/またはLED4Bを駆動する。こうして、表示部5におけるA側およびB側の各々の輝度の値を、最適に制御することが可能となる。
 最終製品としての表示装置100にイメージセンサを搭載せず、出荷前検査時等にイメージセンサを用いて、輝度の調整を行ってもよい。イメージセンサは、2つ以上であってもよい。
 〔実施の形態8〕
 光路変更部材1は、導光板2からの出射光を反射,拡散,集光させるなどの役割を持ついわゆる光学シートの一種であるが、上述したとおり、本実施形態の光路変更部材1は、少なくともその光学的特性により入射する光の光路を変更する部材である。
 図9に示すように、光路変更部材1は、紙面に対して左右方向に互いに対向して配置された2つのLED4Aおよび4Bのそれぞれから発した光が入射する光入射面SUF1と、光入射面SUF1から入射した光が出射する光出射面SUF2とを有する。また、光入射面SUF1と光出射面SUF2とは、紙面に対して上下方向に互いに対向している。
 また、図10の(a)および図10の(b)に示すように、光路変更部材1は、少なくとも2つのLED4Aおよび4Bの対向方向に対して、光出射面SUF4(第2光出射面)から出射する光の出射角Φ(第2出射角)を導光板2の光出射面SUF2(第1光出射面)から出射する光の出射角θ(第1出射角)よりも小さくする光学的特性を有している(Φ<θ)。
 このような光学的特性を有する光路変更部材1(光学シート)としては、図10の(a)に示す拡散シート1aや、図10の(b)に示すレンズシート1bを例示することができる。
 図10の(a)は、光路変更部材1として拡散シート1aを用いたBLユニット(バックライトユニット)20aの構成を示し、図10の(a)は、光路変更部材1としてレンズシート1bを用いたBLユニット(バックライトユニット)20bの構成を示す。
 なお、ここでは、拡散シート1aおよびレンズシート1bのみを説明する。
 図10の(a)に示す拡散シート1aは、シート表面に微細な形状や内部に散乱物質が散布されており、一般的には、上記の光学的特性(Φ<θ)に方向依存性は無いが、特定の方向に対して上記の光学的特性を有するように構成することも可能である。よって、拡散シート1aにおいて、上記の光学的特性に方向依存性を持たせる場合は、LED4Aおよび4Bの対向方向に対して、上記の光学的特性を持たせることが好ましい。
 一方、拡散シート1aは、上記の光学的特性に方向依存性が無い場合、後述するレンズシート1bよりも多少効果は劣るものの、逆に等方的に上記の光学的特性(Φ<θ)を備えているとも言えるので、後述するCV表示用の光路変更部材1として好適である(図11参照)。
 より、具体的には、本実施形態の拡散シート1aは、透明樹脂とこの透明樹脂の中に分散された光拡散剤(拡散微粒子)から構成されている。
 拡散シート1aに使用される透明樹脂としては、例えば、熱可塑性樹脂、熱硬化性樹脂などを用いることができ、例えば、ポリカーボネート樹脂、アクリル系樹脂、フッ素系アクリル樹脂、シリコーン系アクリル樹脂、エポキシアクリレート樹脂、ポリスチレン樹脂、シクロオレフィンポリマー、メチルスチレン樹脂、フルオレン樹脂、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)、ポリプロピレン、アクリルニトリルスチレン共重合体、アクリロニトリルポリスチレン共重合体などを用いることができる。
 また、散乱物質(散乱微粒子)としては、無機物または樹脂からなる透明粒子を使用することができる。無機物からなる透明粒子としては、例えば、シリカ(SiO)、アルミナ(Al)、酸化マグネシウム(MgO)、チタニアなどの酸化物からなる粒子、または、炭酸カルシウム及び硫酸バリウムなどの他の粒子を使用することができる。
 樹脂からなる透明粒子としては、アクリル樹脂、スチレン樹脂、アクリルスチレン樹脂若しくはそれらの架橋体;メラミンホルムアルデヒド樹脂;ポリテトラフルオロエチレン、ペルフルオロアルコキシ樹脂、テトラフルオロエチレン-ヘキサフルオロプロピレン共重合体、ポリフルオロビニリデン及びエチレンテトラフルオロエチレン共重合体などのフッ素樹脂;またはシリコーン樹脂からなる粒子を使用することができる。
 ここで、可視光の波長が350nm~800nmであることから、粒径が可視光の波長と同じオーダー(すなわち100nmオーダー)である拡散微粒子は、光の拡散に寄与し得る。逆に言うと、光拡散性を発現するためには、拡散微粒子の粒径が100nm以上である必要がある。また、光拡散性を好適に発現させるためには、個々の拡散微粒子の粒径は、可視光の波長よりも大きなオーダーであることが好ましく、1μm以上であることが好ましい。従って、拡散微粒子の平均粒径は1μm以上であることが好ましく、2μm程度であることがより好ましい。
 また、拡散シート1aにおいて、光拡散性を発現するための粒子は、透明樹脂中に5質量%程度混入されている。勿論、粒子の混入比率は、所望する光拡散性の程度(例えばヘイズ値で規定される)によって多少異なるが、5質量%を大きく超えると、ヘイズ値が、いたずらに大きくなり、それに伴って光が拡散板中を伝搬する距離が伸びて透過率が極端に低下してしまう。
 ここで、散乱物質として光拡散粒子を用いた場合には、拡散シート1aの厚さが0.1~5mmであることが好ましい。拡散シート1aの厚みが0.1~5mmである場合には、最適な拡散性能と輝度を得ることができ、光学特性上好ましい。これに対し、厚みが0.1mm未満の場合には、所望の拡散性能を発揮することはできず、5mmを超える場合には、樹脂量が多いため吸収による輝度低下が生じ好ましくない。
 なお、本実施形態の拡散シート1aは、ヘイズ値が75%であり、全光線透過率は86%であるが、ヘイズ値は、70%以上であり、全光線透過率は、50%以上であることが好ましい。
 これにより、導光板2の出射角θ=70±5度(第1出射角=65度以上75度以下)のとき、拡散シート1aの出射角Φ=45度を実現できる。
 なお、透明樹脂として熱可塑性樹脂を用いた場合には、散乱物質として気泡を用いても良い。熱可塑性樹脂の内部に形成された気泡の内部表面が光の乱反射を生じさせ、光拡散粒子を分散させた場合と同等以上の光拡散機能を発現させることができる。そのため、拡散シート1aの膜厚をより薄くすることが可能となる。
 このような拡散シート1aとして、白色PETや白色PPなどを挙げることができる。白色PETは、PETと相溶性のない樹脂や酸化チタン(TiO)、硫酸化バリウム(BaSO)、炭酸カルシウムのようなフィラーをPETに分散させた後、該PETを2軸延伸法で延伸することにより、該フィラーの周りに気泡を発生させて形成する。
 なお、熱可塑性樹脂からなる拡散シート1aは、少なくとも1軸方向に延伸されていればよい。少なくとも1軸方向に延伸させれば、フィラーの周りに気泡を発生させることができるためである。
 熱可塑性樹脂としては、例えば、アクリロニトリルポリスチレン共重合体、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)、ポリエチレン-2、6-ナフレート、ポリプロピレンテレフタレート、ポリブチレンテレフタレート、シクロヘキサンジメタノール共重合ポリエステル樹脂、イソフタル酸共重合ポリエステル樹脂、スポログリコール共重合ポリエステル樹脂、フルオレン共重合ポリエステル樹脂等のポリエステル系樹脂、ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン、ポリメチルペンテン、脂環式オレフィン共重合樹脂等のポリオレフィン系樹脂、ポリメチルメタクリレート等のアクリル樹脂、ポリカーボネート、ポリスチレン、ポリアミド、ポリエーテル、ポリエステルアミド、ポリエーテルエステル、ポリ塩化ビニル、シクロオレフィンポリマー、およびこれらを成分とする共重合体、またこれら樹脂の混合物などを用いることができ、特に限定されることはない。
 散乱物質として気泡を用いた場合には、拡散シート1aの厚さが25~500μmであることが好ましい。
 拡散シート1aの厚さが25μm未満の場合には、シートのこしが不足し、製造工程やディスプレイ内でしわを発生しやすくなるので好ましくない。また、拡散シート1aの厚さが500μmを超える場合には、光学性能についてはとくに問題ないが、剛性が増すためロール状に加工しにくい、スリットが容易にできないなど、従来の拡散シートと比較して得られる薄さの利点が少なくなるので好ましくない。
 また、拡散シート1aは、その光入射面SUF1または光出射面SUF2に微細凹凸構造が形成されたものであってもよい。この微細凹凸構造を形成する方法としては、拡散シート1aを形成する際に共押出形成法、出射成形法により微細凹凸構造を賦型するための金型に圧力をかけることで密着させて、微細凹凸構造を転写する方法が挙げられる。
 さらに、微細凹凸構造を形成する方法として、拡散シート1aの光入射面SUF1または光出射面SUF2に、UV(Ultra Violet:紫外線)硬化樹脂等のような放射線硬化樹脂を用いて成形する手法も挙げられる。より具体的には、共押出法により拡散シート1aを板状部材として成形した後に、拡散シート1aの光入射面SUF1または光出射面SUF2に凹凸形状をUV成形することで微細凹凸構造を形成することができる。
 光入射面SUF1または光出射面SUF2の表面状態は、凹凸を粗さで数値化する事が多いが、ここでは、表面状態をヘイズ値と凹凸間隔Sm値(以下、「Sm値」と称する)で示す。ヘイズ値は、JIS K 7136で定義され、ヘイズメータを用いて、5回測定した時の平均値で表され、Sm値は、表面粗さ規格JIS B0601-2001で定義され、接触式表面粗さ計を用いて、カットオフ値2.0mmの条件で測定したときの平均値を意味する。
 ヘイズ値は大きければ大きいほど、光入射面SUF1または光出射面SUF2での散乱が多くなり、逆に小さければ、表面散乱が少なくなる。同時にSm値は、小さければ、表面凹凸が細かくなる。ヘイズ値が20%未満であると、光の表面散乱が少なくなる。
 同様にSm値が300μm未満であると、凹凸間隔は細かいが凹凸粗さが不十分となり、光の表面散乱が弱くなり、900μmを超えると、凹凸間隔が広く粗さも粗くなるため、光の表面散乱は強くなるが正面輝度の低下につながる。
 さらには、光入射面SUF1または光出射面SUF2の表面粗さが規則的であると、表面粗さが不規則なものと比較して一定の散乱効果を得る上で有利となり、また、製造が容易となる。
 そのヘイズ値の調整方法はいくつかあり、凹凸を物理的に賦型する場合は、金型の表面状態を調整し、射出成形や押出し成形時にインラインで転写させる方法や、成形後オフラインで熱プレスや研磨剤のブラストを行う方法がある。また、押出条件で光拡散剤をブリードアウトさせる場合は、拡散物質の濃度や粒径および拡散層の厚さで調整を行う。
 押出法は押出機で熱可塑性樹脂を加熱溶融させ、Tダイから押出し、板状に成形する。共押出法は積層板の場合に用い、複数台の押出機を用い、フィードブロックダイやマニホールドダイなどの積層ダイから、積層押出しを行い、複層板状に成形する。
 次に、図10の(b)に示すレンズシート1bは、光出射面SUF2の側に複数のプリズム列1cが形成されており、本実施形態のプリズム列1cの稜線(プリズムの軸)は、LED4Aおよび4Bの対向方向に対して、垂直に配置されている。このため、LED4Aおよび4Bから出射した光の伝搬方向に沿って所定の入射角で入射レンズシート1bに入射した光が光出射面SUF2側から出射するときの出射光の出射角Φの大きさは、入射光の入射角θの大きさより小さくなる。このため、複数の異なる方向への輝度指向性を有するバックライト光を出射させにくいという問題点は生じない。
 なお、本実施形態のレンズシート1bは、プリズム列1cの断面は、二等辺三角形状であり、その頂角(プリズム頂角)は、80度~100度であり、屈折率は、1.5である。これにより、導光板2の出射角θ=65±5度(第1出射角=60度以上70度以下)のとき、レンズシート1bの出射角Φ=45度を実現できる。なお、レンズシート1bの屈折率が大きくなるほど、出射角Φは0度に近づく。
 本実施形態のBLユニット20では、光路変更部材1が、少なくとも2つのLED4Aおよび4Bの対向方向に対して、光出射面SUF2から出射する光の出射角Φを、光入射面SUF1から入射する光の入射角θよりも小さくする光学的特性を有している。このため、図9に示すように、LED4Aから発した光は、光出射面SUF2の法線に対して左側に(A側、例えば、視野角+45度)傾いた方向の輝度指向性を有するバックライト光を出射することが可能となっている。一方、LED4Bから発した光は、法線に対して右側に(B側、例えば、視野角-45度)傾いた方向の輝度指向性を有するバックライト光を出射することが可能となっている。
 よって、プリズム列の軸が光源から出射する光の伝搬方向に沿っているため、複数の異なる方向への輝度指向性を有するバックライト光を出射させにくいという問題点は生じない。
 また、図9に示すように、光路変更部材1の光出射面SUF2から出射する光は、外部の表示部5に直接照射される。言い換えれば、BLユニット20では、表示部5と後述する導光板2との間の光学シートは、光路変更部材1の1枚のみで構成している。よって、薄型化が困難であるという問題点は生じない。
 以上より、BLユニット20によれば、薄型化を実現しつつ、複数の異なる方向へ輝度指向性を有するバックライト光を出射させることができる。
 導光板2は、2つのLED4Aおよび4Bのそれぞれから出射した光を受け、受けた光を光出射面SUF4から光路変更部材1の光入射面SUF1へ導光する部材である。
 より具体的には、LED4Aおよび4Bから発生した線状の光を、表示部5へ入射するための面光源に変換する透明樹脂の板である。
 導光板2の形状は、板状(直方体形状)であり、光出射面SUF4(底面SUF5)の形状は、矩形形状である。また、導光板2の厚みは0.2mm~3mmであるが、導光板2の厚みはこの範囲に限定されない。
 導光板2は、本実施形態では、板状であるが、楔形形状、船型形状などの種々の形状のものを使用できる。また、導光板2の構成材料としては、メタクリル樹脂、アクリル系樹脂、ポリカーボネート系樹脂、ポリエステル系樹脂、塩化ビニル系樹脂等の透過率の高い合成樹脂を使用できる。導光板2は、光出射面SUF4が鏡面で、他方の底面SUF5が粗面になったものを使用する。
 導光板2の底面SUF5には、輝度均一化や輝度向上のため、プリズム加工やドット印刷加工などが施されている。
 具体的な例として、本実施形態の導光板2では、均一な面光源となるように、LED4Aおよび4Bのそれぞれに近いところから遠いところに向けて、LED4Aおよび4Bに近いところ(導光板2の両端側)は凹凸が疎な面とし、遠いところ(導光板2の中央付近)は凹凸が密となるようにしているが、導光板2に形成する凹凸はこのような形態に限られない。以上の構成により、本実施形態の導光板2は、図9に示すように、右斜め上方または左斜め上方に均一に光が出射されるようにしている。
 なお、導光板2の底面SUF5に凹凸を形成する方法としては、凹凸をつけた金型を使用して射出成型により導光板2を成形する方法、または、あらかじめ表面がフラットな導光部材を射出成型またはキャスト方式で成形し、スクリーン印刷にて突起をつけるよう専用インクを印刷する等の方法を例示できる。
 反射シート3は、導光板2の底面SUF5から漏れた光を反射する光反射部材である。反射シート3の表面形状はフラットな形状である。
 また、反射シート3の構成材料としては、ポリエステル系樹脂もしくはポリオレフィン系樹脂からなるフィルム、または、白色フィルムを使用する。白色フィルムは、フィルム若しくはシート状に成形する前に、例えば、白色となるように、酸化チタン、硫酸バリウム、炭酸カルシウム、水酸化アルミニウム、炭酸マグネシウム、酸化アルミニウムなどの顔料をプラスチック樹脂に添加してフィルム、シートに成形したものである。樹脂に炭酸カルシウムや酸化チタン等の無機充填剤を含有させフィルムを成形し、これを延伸し多数のミクロボイドを形成させたものを使用することもできる。
 LED4Aおよび4Bは、バックライト面内における輝度の均一性と照射の配光角度分布を左右対称にすることができる。
 また、複数の光源がCCFTの場合、コ字状の蛍光管を採用し、2つの光源が互いに繋がった1つの蛍光管であっても良い。また、複数の光源として、L字状の蛍光管を2本組み合わせて使用しても良い。
 また、LED4Aおよび4Bは、図示しないリフレクターを備えていても良い。リフレクターはその内面は放物線状の形状をなし、その焦点位置にLED4Aおよび4Bが配置される。
 図9に示すように、表示部5は、導光板2の光出射面SUF4から出射された光が直接照射される光照射面SUF3を有し、偏光板51および56、視差バリア(パララックスバリア)52、接着層53、CF(カラーフィルタ)基板54、TFT(薄膜トランジスタ)基板55を備える。
 偏光板51および56は、偏光素子が入った偏光基材とこれを両面で挟むベース基板(図示しない)、そして片面には保護フィルム(図示しない)ともう片面にはガラス基板に貼り付けるための離型フィルム(図示しない)から構成される。
 偏光板51および56は、多ければ10層ほど積層されても0.12mm~0.4mm程度の薄いものである。偏光素子が入った偏光基材とは、ヨウ素や二色性染料が偏光素子でありこれが偏光効果を起こす。偏光基材はポリビニルアルコール(PVA,Poly Vinyle Alcohol)が使用され、偏光素子がこの媒体内に含まれる。偏光基材を保護する役割のベース基板にはトリアセチルセルロース(TAC,Triacetyl cellulose, Cellulose triacetate)が使用される。離型フィルムにはベース基板側に粘着層が塗布されており、ガラス基板に貼り付ける段階で剥離され、粘着層によってガラス基板に貼り付けられる。
 視差バリア52は、光の透過領域と遮断領域とがストライプ状に形成された光学部材であり、視差バリア52により、表示すべき複数の画像を個々の表示領域に分離している。
 例えば、この視差バリア52によれば、例えば、図12に示すように、特定の視野角Lおよび視野角Rのそれぞれの方向に存在する複数のユーザに対して、複数の異なる左側画像IL(A側)および右側画像IR(B側)のそれぞれを視認させる、いわゆるDV表示が可能となる。
 接着層53は、視差バリア52とCF基板54とを接着するアクリル樹脂等の透明樹脂層である。なお、視差バリア52とCF基板54とを接触させて形成すると視差バリアとしての機能が発揮できないので、接着層53は、視差バリア52とCF基板54との間を適切な距離に調節する。また、この距離は、DV表示が可能となるような距離であれば良い。
 CF基板54は、各画素に対応させて、赤色(R)・緑色(G)・青色(B)の光を透過させる着色層やブラック・マトリックス(BM)を基板上に配置し、保護膜で覆ったものである。この着色層は、CF基板54に微細パターンで塗り付けられる着色材、または着色膜であり、顔料系、もしくは、染色料系のものが用いられる。BM層によって黒色表示時の光漏れと隣り合う着色材同士の混色を防ぎ、TFT基板55への光照射による光電流の発生も防止する。着色材の定着に感光材を用いるものは、着色材に混ぜられてそのまま定着する。0.1μm程の薄いBM層は金属クロムが多く、他にもカーボン、チタン、ニッケルなどが用いられる。BM層の間には1.2μm程のBM層よりは厚みのある3色の着色層が一定のパターンで配置される。高精細の画面では着色層のパターンはストライプ配置が多いが、低精細度の画面ではデルタ配置が良好な画質の印象となる。
 次に、図14に基づき、BLユニットのその他の形態について説明する。図14は、バックライトユニットのさらに別の構成例であるBLユニット(バックライトユニット)20dを示す図である。
 なお、上述したBLユニット20a,20b,20cと異なる点は、導光板2(およびこれに対応する光源4A,4B)が、左右方向に複数配置されている点である。
 例えば、図14では、2つの導光板2L,2Rが、液晶パネル5を平面的に見て、横方向(左右方向)に隣り合うように配置されている。各導光板2L,2Rは、上述の導光板2と同一の構成であり、導光板2Lの両側面にはそれぞれLED4A,4Bが配置され、導光板2Rの両側面にはそれぞれLED4A,4Bが配置されている。なお、1つの導光板2およびこれに対応するLED4A,4Bからなるセットは、図14のように2セットに限定されず、表示部5の大きさ応じて、4セットあるいはそれ以上で構成され、いわゆるタイル状に配置されていてもよい。
 一般に、光は導光板内で複数回の反射を繰り返すと、次第に低波長側の光量が減衰していき、色味が変わってくる。そのため、大型の液晶パネルにおいて導光板を1つ配置した場合、該導光板内での光の反射回数が増大するため、光源に近い側と遠い側とでは色味が大きく変化してしまうという問題が生じる。この点、上記の構成によれば、複数の導光板(図14では、導光板2L,2R)を横並びに配置することで、各導光板のサイズを小さくすることができるため、各導光板内での光の反射回数を少なく抑えることができる。よって、BLユニット20dの薄型化を実現しつつ、色味の変化(バラツキ)を生じさせることなく液晶パネル5を大型化することができる。
 また、本発明の表示装置の、上記複数の光源は、所定の色を含む光を出射し、上記センサは、さらに、各表示領域から出射された光の色度を測定し、上記演算部は、上記センサの測定結果に基づいて、各表示領域を照らす各光源の色度を調整するのが好ましい。
 上記の構成によれば、センサの測定結果である、表示部における各表示領域から出射された光の色度に基づいて、演算部は、各光源の色度を調整する。上記の構成によれば、表示部から出射された後の光を用いて該調整を行うので、表示部への光の入射後(すなわち、パネル入射後)に光の色度を変化させる要因を考慮した上で、各表示領域に表示される画像の色度の調整を行うことが可能となる。
 従って、上記の構成によれば、互いに異なる表示領域に表示される、複数の画像の色度を略均一にすることが可能となる。上記の構成によれば、実条件により近い環境下での、画像の色味を調整することが可能となる。
 なお、所定の色を含む光を出射する光源としては、例えばRGB(Red Green Blue)-LED(Light Emitting Diode:発光ダイオード)が挙げられる。
 また、本発明の表示装置は、上記センサとして、上記複数の表示領域のいずれかから出射された光の輝度を測定するセンサを複数備えているのが好ましい。
 また、本発明の表示装置の、上記複数の表示領域は、互いに異なる期間に画像を表示し、上記センサとして、上記互いに異なる期間に亘って、上記複数の表示領域のそれぞれから出射された光の輝度を測定するセンサを1つ備えているのが好ましい。
 すなわち、上記の構成によれば、本発明に係るセンサは、1つであっても複数であっても、各表示領域から出射された光の輝度を測定することが可能である。
 また、本発明の表示装置の、上記光源は、電流制御により発光が制御されており、上記演算部は、出射された光の輝度が大きい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源に供給する電流の電流値を小さくする処理、および、出射された光の輝度が小さい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源に供給する電流の電流値を大きくする処理のうち少なくともいずれか一方の処理を行うのが好ましい。
 また、本発明の表示装置の、上記光源は、パルス幅変調により発光が制御されており、上記演算部は、出射された光の輝度が大きい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源に供給する電流のデューティー比を小さくする処理、および、出射された光の輝度が小さい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源に供給する電流のデューティー比を大きくする処理のうち少なくともいずれか一方の処理を行うのが好ましい。
 すなわち、上記の構成によれば、本発明に係る光源に対する発光の制御方式は、電流の電流値に応じた電流制御であってもよいし、電流のパルス幅(デューティー比)に応じたパルス幅変調であってもよい。
 また、本発明の表示装置の、上記複数の光源は、2つまたは4つであるのが好ましい。
 複数の光源は、互いに異なる表示領域を照らすので、デュアルビューディスプレイである表示部を備えた表示装置の場合、光源が2つ必要であり、カルテットビューディスプレイである表示部を備えた表示装置の場合、光源が4つ必要である。
 また、本発明の表示装置は、上記表示部に、複数の上記表示領域への分離を行うための視差バリアが貼り付けられており、上記センサとして、上記視差バリアの貼り付けのズレ量を測定するイメージセンサを備えているのが好ましい。
 デュアルビューディスプレイは、表示部にパララックスバリア(視差バリア)を貼り付けることにより、画像を2方向に分離するものである。このパララックスバリアの貼り付けにズレが生じると、表示部の各表示領域で、光を透過することが可能な面積が異なり、輝度の差が生じる虞がある。
 上記の構成によれば、パララックスバリアの貼り付けのズレが発生していても、互いに異なる表示領域に表示される、複数の画像の輝度を略均一にすることが可能となる。
 また、本発明の表示装置の、上記複数の光源は、互いに対向して配置された2つの光源であり、上記表示装置は、上記2つの光源のそれぞれから発した光を受け、受けた光を出射する第1光出射面を有する導光部材と、上記導光部材の第1光出射面から出射した光を受け、受けた光を上記表示部に向けて出射する第2光出射面を有し、通過する光の光路を変更する光路変更部材と、を備え、上記光路変更部材は、上記表示部の表示画面の法線方向とは異なる少なくとも2つの方向の輝度分布が極大となる輝度指向性を有する光を上記第2光出射面から出射するのが好ましい。
 上記の構成によれば、薄型化を実現しつつ、複数の異なる方向への輝度指向性を有する光を出射させることが可能となる。
 本発明は上述した各実施形態に限定されるものではなく、請求項に示した範囲で種々の変更が可能であり、異なる実施形態にそれぞれ開示された技術的手段を適宜組み合わせて得られる実施形態についても本発明の技術的範囲に含まれる。
 本発明は、互いに異なる表示領域を照らす複数の光源を備えた表示装置に利用することが可能である。このような表示装置としては、例えばデュアルビューディスプレイ、およびカルテットビューディスプレイ等が挙げられる。

  1.  複数の表示領域を備えた表示部と、
     上記表示部における、互いに異なる上記表示領域を照らす、複数の光源と、
     各表示領域から出射された光の輝度を測定する、1または複数のセンサと、
     上記センサの測定結果に基づいて、出射された光の輝度が大きい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源の輝度を小さくする処理、および、出射された光の輝度が小さい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源の輝度を大きくする処理のうち少なくともいずれか一方の処理を行う演算部とを備えていることを特徴とする表示装置。
  2.  上記複数の光源は、所定の色を含む光を出射し、
     上記センサは、さらに、各表示領域から出射された光の色度を測定し、
     上記演算部は、上記センサの測定結果に基づいて、各表示領域を照らす各光源の色度を調整することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
  3.  上記センサとして、上記複数の表示領域のいずれかから出射された光の輝度を測定するセンサを複数備えていることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の表示装置。
  4.  上記複数の表示領域は、互いに異なる期間に画像を表示し、
     上記センサとして、上記互いに異なる期間に亘って、上記複数の表示領域のそれぞれから出射された光の輝度を測定するセンサを1つ備えていることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の表示装置。
  5.  上記光源は、電流制御により発光が制御されており、
     上記演算部は、出射された光の輝度が大きい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源に供給する電流の電流値を小さくする処理、および、出射された光の輝度が小さい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源に供給する電流の電流値を大きくする処理のうち少なくともいずれか一方の処理を行うことを特徴とする請求項1~4のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
  6.  上記光源は、パルス幅変調により発光が制御されており、
     上記演算部は、出射された光の輝度が大きい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源に供給する電流のデューティー比を小さくする処理、および、出射された光の輝度が小さい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源に供給する電流のデューティー比を大きくする処理のうち少なくともいずれか一方の処理を行うことを特徴とする請求項1~4のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
  7.  上記複数の光源は、2つまたは4つであることを特徴とする請求項1~6のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
  8.  上記表示部に、複数の上記表示領域への分離を行うための視差バリアが貼り付けられており、
     上記センサとして、上記視差バリアの貼り付けのズレ量を測定するイメージセンサを備えていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
  9.  上記複数の光源は、互いに対向して配置された2つの光源であり、
     上記表示装置は、上記2つの光源のそれぞれから発した光を受け、受けた光を出射する第1光出射面を有する導光部材と、上記導光部材の第1光出射面から出射した光を受け、受けた光を上記表示部に向けて出射する第2光出射面を有し、通過する光の光路を変更する光路変更部材と、を備え、
     上記光路変更部材は、上記表示部の表示画面の法線方向とは異なる少なくとも2つの方向の輝度分布が極大となる輝度指向性を有する光を上記第2光出射面から出射することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
  10.  複数の表示領域を備えた表示部と、
     上記表示部における、互いに異なる上記表示領域を照らす、複数の光源とを備えた表示装置の制御方法であって、
     1または複数のセンサにより、各表示領域から出射された光の輝度を測定する工程と、
     上記センサの測定結果に基づいて、出射された光の輝度が大きい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源の輝度を小さくする工程、および、出射された光の輝度が小さい上記表示領域を照らす上記光源の輝度を大きくする工程のうち少なくともいずれか一方の工程とを含んでいることを特徴とする表示装置の制御方法。
