Definitions
- the present invention relates to the field of high power power supplies. It relates more particularly to a device for feeding a ship when it is docked.
- a ship for example a container ship or a cruise ship, when docked, needs a lot of electrical power.
- This power is generally of the order of several megawatts, typically 8 to 12 megawatts, for three-phase voltages of 6,500V or 11,000V.
- This power is usually provided by diesel generators on board. These on-board generators have low efficiency, use expensive energy and are highly polluting.
- an LNG carrier which uses the gas evaporating from its tanks as fuel, is often able to produce more energy than it consumes. It can therefore possibly export current to a terrestrial network in a competitive way.
- Devices have been designed that allow at least to power a ship at the dock, without using its own generators. Some of these devices are further provided for exporting current to the terrestrial network. Such devices are in particular known from document FR 2 946 471. These devices comprise a dock plug housed in a container. These devices assume a sufficiently precise alignment of a catch on board the ship, vertically above the shore power point. This implies in particular a sufficiently precise positioning of the ship along the wharf. This accuracy is difficult to obtain, offset by the ability to move the container. In addition, the container occupies a significant hold on the dock, unattractive on a passenger dock, it is bulky on a dock "freight"; the cables feeding the container must be able to be pulled as it moves and also clutter the dock.
- the object of the invention is to propose an improved device that allows a mobile, in particular a ship at the dock, to connect vertically to a terrestrial power socket, while forming a sufficient shelter for this ground catch, and offering a solution to at least some of the problems mentioned above.
- such a terrestrial power supply device for a mobile, in particular a ship is characterized in that it comprises a connector, a carriage forming a housing for the connector when it is not connected, and , a raceway for moving the carriage, the connector being adapted to be connected by cables to a terrestrial network.
- the device preferably the carriage, comprises a motor for moving the carriage on the raceway.
- the device according to the invention is advantageously provided with a shelter designed to house the connector in the carriage when the connector is not connected.
- the carriage can carry a wall element arranged so that, when the carriage is in the shelter, the wall element forms a sealed door with other walls of the shelter.
- the connector may include an opening to introduce means for connecting the mobile, an edge of the opening advantageously having a seal arranged to seal against a wall of the shelter when said connector is housed therein.
- the mobile can be a ship; the device then advantageously comprises means for being fixed along a quay. It can be designed to be arranged between the dock and tusks.
- FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an electrical connection device according to the invention, the terrestrial connector is being pulled, for connection to a ship;
- FIG. 2 is a partial longitudinal diagrammatic elevational view in the waiting position of the device of FIG. 1.
- the connection device 1, illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2 is the terrestrial part of a control system. connection for connecting a ship, not shown in the figures, to a terrestrial electrical network. Such a system can be used to feed the ship from a terrestrial network, or, on the contrary, to supply this network with electricity produced on board the ship, for example from gas when the ship is, for example, a LNG carrier.
- the device 1 comprises in particular a connector 2, a carriage 3, a raceway 4 and a shelter 5.
- the device is shown disposed along a platform 6.
- the connector 2 is intended to be towed from the carriage 3 which serves as a support towards the ship.
- the ship comprises a cable 7 whose one end carries a shuttle 8.
- the cable 7 is deployed and the shuttle 8 down to the end of the cable 7 until it comes engaged with the connector 2.
- the cable is folded pulling the connector 2 vertically upward, in the direction V.
- the connector 2 is towed until it is engaged with a complementary connector, not shown, aboard the ship, thereby establishing electrical continuity between the ship and the shore power network.
- the connector 2 is shown during upward traction, according to V, while it has just been extracted from the carriage, by the cable 7 and the shuttle 8.
- tusks 11 are arranged at the front of platform 6 to protect it.
- the device 1 is disposed at the front of the wharf between two tusks 11, so that a ship at the wharf 6, and bearing against the tusks 11, does not damage the device 1 nor hinders its operation.
- the device 1 is arranged so that the highest level N5 remains lower than or equal to the level N6 of the platform. Thus, the device 1 does not interfere with the maneuvering of the machines and the goods on the platform 6.
- the level N5 is the upper level of the shelter 5.
- the raceway is formed of two rails 12, arranged parallel to each other and to the platform 6. Each rail is carried by a respective beam 15. The beams are fixed to the platform 6 by brackets 13.
- the carriage 3 comprises two pairs of wheels 14, provided for rolling on the rails 12, and a motor 16 provided to drive at least one of the wheels 14 and allow the carriage to move on the rails, along the platform 6.
- the carriage 3 further comprises a housing 17 substantially cylindrical about a substantially vertical axis XI 7.
- the housing is provided to receive connector 2, when not connected to a ship.
- the housing is mounted in a body 18.
- the pairs of wheels 14 are fixed, on either side of an upper edge of the body 18, each by a respective axle.
- the body extends between the rails 12 vertically, above and below the rails.
- the shelter 5 is disposed at a first end 12A of the raceway 4. It allows to house the carriage 3 and the connector 2 when they are not used, waiting for the docking of a ship.
- the shelter has a substantially parallelepipedal shape. It comprises three vertical walls 21, 22 and a cover wall 23.
- the vertical walls 21, 22 extend upwards from the base of the beams 15, to the cover 23; the vertical walls are interconnected and with the cover in a watertight and splashproof manner.
- the vertical walls comprise two side walls 21, arranged parallel to the rails 12 and on both sides thereof.
- the vertical walls further comprise a bottom 22 disposed transversely to the rails and against the first end 12A of the race, so that the rails 12 extend from the bottom wall 22, firstly through the shelter 5 then beyond, to a second end 12B of the rails.
- the body carries a vertical wall element 24 arranged so that when the carriage 3 is in the shelter 5, the wall element 24 closes the shelter, opposite the bottom 22, preferably sealingly with the side walls 21 and the cover 23.
- the housing 17 protrudes towards the top of the body 18.
- a ring and hollow seal 26 is attached along an upper edge 27 of the housing 17. The edge 27 defines an opening provided to make it penetrate means of connection specific to the ship.
- the cover 23 is slightly inclined, lower on the side of the bottom 22; the edge 27 is also inclined, substantially at the same angle as the cover 23, so that the cover 23 forms a bearing surface substantially parallel to the plane of the seal 26.
- the slope A of the cover may, for example, be close to 5% relative to the horizontal, towards the first end 12A of the raceway.
- the connector 2 is connected to the three-phase terrestrial network by a braid 30 of several cables, including four power cables, for the three phases and the earth, as well as one or more control cables.
- the carriage comprises a frame 31 which extends downwardly from the body 18 and which carries at its end four rollers 32 forming between them a passage for the cables and ensuring their guiding and sliding with reduced forces, through the carriage 3, substantially along the axis X17 of the housing 17.
- the invention is not limited to the examples just described.
- a monorail trolley can be provided.
- the device can also be provided embedded in a dock rather than being mounted as a console, as previously described.
- the device according to the invention can advantageously be arranged between the fenders and the dock, so that the protected device without encroaching on the port facilities.
- the device can also be constitutive or part of a boom for docking a ship away from a coast.
- the guidance of the cables along the axis of the housing can be done without using rollers, or by replacing the rollers with slippery pads, for example polytetrafluoroethylene.
- the carriage moving means may also be different from those described.
- the motor instead of being carried by the carriage, the motor can be fixed relative to the platform and drive the carriage by a system of chain or cable mounted back and forth.
- the engine can still be replaced by a manual drive properly multiplied.
- a rack can also be integrated in the raceway to prevent wheel spin.
- a device according to the invention is particularly useful since it allows a ship to easily connect to the terrestrial network, without having to be too precise in its mooring operations, thus guaranteeing a good positioning of the ship relatively to the connector.
- it allows the connector to be perfectly sheltered and protected when in the standby position.
- it is notable, that it can be arranged not to encroach on the port facilities, nor to hinder its operation.
- the device according to the invention can also be provided for other mobiles, for example an airplane.
